How Magic Works
These are just some of many different theories about how spells work. For anybody who really enjoys āmagical theoryā like I do or is looking for validation that thereās something to all these weird spells! None of these serve to discredit magic, but rather add a deeper level of understanding to it. The success of a spell could be credited to more than one of these, or something else entirely!
Law of Attraction. Basically, the idea that you attract what youĀ focus on. A popular example is focusing on the color red, and seeing how much red is around you that you didnāt notice before. This is most effective for spells involving personal matters and success, by formally opening your eyes to details and opportunities you may have missed otherwise.Ā
The Placebo Effect.Ā Itās a proven fact that our bodies can heal ourselves merelyĀ by belief that what weāre doing helps! This can extend beyond health spells to things like confidence, performance ability, and other things that aim at personal improvement. The placebo effect may be all that spell needs to be successful ( and it wouldnāt have happened without the spell!)
Direct cause/effect. Something about the spell and the way it was cast directly affects the outcome. Example: a sigil designed for protection, when looked at, serves as a constant visualĀ reminder that you are protected, subconsciously strengthening your wards.
Science/chemistry.Ā This is most true for kitchen witchery and herbalism. Chamomile, lavender, and other herbs arenāt corresponded with calmness and sleep for nothingā¦ theyāre made up of chemicals that have been scientifically proven to calm the nerves and aid in sleep!
Quantum physics. Thereās a phrase called āQuantum Woo,ā where people use quantum physics (often incorrectly) to explain any type of magical thinking or practice. While the ultimate theory behind quantum physics was recently disproven, the discoveries made through research still hold true. Basically, we know particlesĀ behaveĀ differently when observed, and our energies can effect this. We just donāt know why that is. This is the baseline behind a lot of energy work.
Divine string pulling. Ask and ye shall receive.Ā This is where we depart from the physical to the spiritual side of magic. Many people do magic by appealing to divine forces, Mother Earth,Ā God(s), the Universe, whatever you want to call it. This could be with an offering, a ceremony, or even just bedside prayer. The divine force hears the request, and grants it by affecting change and āpulling stringsā to cause the desired outcome.
Spiritual string pulling. Very similar to the previous point, but with entities that are not worshipped or seen as divine. Many believe that spirits can still affect change ābehind the scenes.ā A spirit worker may make a deal with a spirit for luck or protection, or someone may ask their ancestors for good fortune and health.
Personal string pulling. Instead of asking an outside entity,Ā this is the idea that we, as theĀ practitioner, pull the strings. This is most seen through the ācone of energyā method of casting, where we raise a lot of concentrated energy and intent in a space, then release it all at once to do its thing. You also see it with sympathetic magic, where by doing something to a poppet, we actively affect that change on the target. No middle man included.

Itās been a time, hasnāt it? What a decade.
In 2010, I was working for a memorial company designing gravestones.
2011, bought a house.
2012, I had my first kid.Ā
2014, I had my second. Also started this tumblr that December. Bought my first tarot deck.
2015 I quit my job to be a stay-at-home mom.
By 2016, I had already published 3 decks - The Idiosyncradeck, Messages Tarot, and Only Time Will Tell.
Sometime in here I realized I was gay. Also, had an internal organ removed. For whatever reason, I cannot remember when exactly.
2017, The Amethyst Oracle. I started doing Irish dancing.
2018, I finally finished the Body Language deck. Even wrote a book for it!
2019, I had a Kickstarter for the Bottanical deck and the Only Time Will Tell 2 came out. My husband told me he wants a divorce, and is dating his ex-girlfriend. I am heartbroken. Iām going back to school, too.
Through this decade I have amassed quite a deck collection, have started gardening, my art has EXPLODED, which I had never dreamed possible. I have my own website! I sell my own art! I lost my faith in Christianity. Found Discordianism and Satanism. Became a tarot reading, witchcraft practising lesbian. Had a marriage start, and now have a marriage end. I have 2 children, a wild amount of info of plants and mushrooms, started wood burning and scrapbooking. I donāt talk to any of the same people. It all feels so recent, yet everything has changed.Ā

Ultimate curse:
Take the full and correct name of someone whoās harmed you.Ā Go to a Catholic church, give the priest a small donation, give him the name, and tell him that itās the name of a dear loved one who has recently passed away and youād like to have their name included in prayers for the newly deceased.
On Sunday, an entire church will affirm your enemyās death.
Gentler version:
Do the same as above, but rather than saying they have passed away, say that they are very, very ill. Think of the harm they have done you as a sign of their illness when you do so.
On Sunday, the whole congregation will think of your enemy as being broken, sick, and in need of healing from their behavior.

Childhood Signs of Being a āNatural-Born-Witchā
Whether it runs in your family or you are self taught, a witch is a witch is a witch. Many practitioners of the craft do, however, show signs of the gift in early childhood. For people born in families either unfamiliar or opposed to the craft, these signs often go unnoticed, neglected (or in the worst case, punished). For those who are familiar, it can be heartwarming to see a child take after you, or at least witness a free spirit thrive.Ā
Here are common signs NBWs sometimesĀ experienceĀ as children :
Odd dreams/sleep habits:
*Not to be confused with any underlying health conditions* Iāve heard many people say that one of the earliest signs that they (or their parents) noticed was abnormal dreams or sleep. Although all children usually experience odd dreams/nightmares/sleepwalking, there may sometimesĀ be more too it than meets the eye. This can start anywhere from the infant stage to young adulthood. For me personally it started out asĀ āsleepwalkingā while still in the crib, which later turned into strange dreams and eventually clairvoyance. Chronic or reoccurringĀ odd dreams are probably the most common sign for many. Dreams with strange figures, creatures, individuals, symbolism, or even unfamiliar languages and deceased ancestors are potential flags.Ā
Clairvoyance:
Children getting Deja Vu in excess, or having the ability to obtain strange knowledge from seemingly nowhere may be showing signs of clairvoyance. This goes beyond basic intuition. Clairvoyance can manifest in many different ways. It could be from dreams, or simply getting āfeelingsā (good or bad vibes) Ā in certain situations. This typically gets stronger throughout puberty, but may develop much earlier or later in some.Ā
Strange obsessions:
Ā A child taking a natural interest in witchy things is a pretty solid sign. For instance, when I was in third grade I became completely obsessed with herbal medicine for no apparent reason. I was just great at memorizing plants and their uses. Other common obsessions may be the supernatural in general, or perhaps the use of certain symbols in art. Young children may scribble pentagrams or other symbols they feel drawn to in excess. A child may draw strange or reoccurring art of otherworldly places, things, and beings.Ā
Imaginary friends:
*not to be confused with symptoms of mental illness! This is most common with very small children that typically outgrow it. Older children who ākeepā imaginary friends are usually evaluated by medical professionals to insure health.*
Ā When people think of imaginary friends they often imagine a pegasus or a quirky, colorful character. These would be considered normal to most, but someĀ āimaginary friendsā could be described asā¦ unsettling. A child may claim to speak to one or many different imaginary friends. These beings are sometimes described as resembling people or animals that once existed. A child may also describe what these characters say and do. Children may mysteriously have knowledge about something odd, and claim that their āimaginary friendā informed them. There are some who believe that small children can easily see through the veil, and therefore are able communicate with the other side more effectively than adults.Ā
Strong empathy:
Signs of being anĀ āempathā can start very young. Children with the ability to easily tame wild or feral animals may be using these skills to do so. These children often come off as being mature for their age. They are usually levelheaded and caring of others. Their understanding of emotion may also make them good at lying, or occasionally manipulative. Negative energy affects them very badly, causing stress. This often causes these children to be more fond of animals than other children. Children with strong empathy usually enjoy pleasing others and making others happy. They thrive best in positivity and donāt take criticism well. This trait follows children into adulthood and can sometimes be difficult to manage.Ā
Other GeneralĀ Signs:
A deep love for nature. A highly active imagination. A fascination with the unknown or supernatural. The urge to heal. An effortless respect for plants and animals. Appearing to beĀ ālost in their own worldā. A natural knack for herbalism, divination, ect. Seeming wise beyond their years. Abilities that appear otherworldly. Creating strange superstitions or stories, and probably much more that I haven'tĀ covered.Ā

Evergoing Spell
This is a long lasting spell to protect, cleanse, calm and bring love to yourself or another. The spell will last for as long as the marble remains in the circle.
You Will Need
A marble, stone or other representative of yourself or your target
A small bowl or dish
Regular salt and pink Himalayan sea salt (protection, cleansing, and love)
Peach leaves or peach tea leaves (love and healing)
Lavender buds (calming and anti anxiety)
Moonstone and Sunstone (or other representatives of the moon and sun)
Note: Instead of moonstone and sunstone, I used a marble which was charged under the total eclipse of August 21st. The moonstone and sunstone are supposed to bring you protection so long as you are under the moon or the sun.
The Spell
Make sure your bowl or dish is clean.
In the bowl or dish, add all ingredients and form them into a circle (except for the marble and stones).
Ā In the center of the circle, place your marble.
Set the stones on either side of the bowl or dish and leave overnight.
Leave the spell to manifest as long as possible. You can remove the Moonstone and Sunstone at any time, but the spell ends when the marble leaves the circle. The spell can be recast at any time if you must remove the marble or dismantle the spell.Ā
