Cities aren’t cooling down at night and people are dyin because of this. Shit ain’t cooling down and they’re dying in their sleep. Keep your AC on, make sure your pets are okay, put on sunscreen, drink so much fucking water. If you live in the city, get some magic bags frozen to keep with you at night, get some cooling pads, whatever you need, but don’t get heat or sunstroked. It’s not as bad in rural areas since buildings are spread out and aren’t trapping heat.
Don’t. Fucking leave your pets in the car at all. Opening windows isn’t helping. Leave the car running with someone sitting in on it with ac blasting the shits outta them
Give your birds a cool dish of water, maybe with an ice cube in it if its really bad
If you are outside, find shade, wear a widebrim hat, sunglasses, carry water with you, everything you can to just make sure your brain doesn’t fucking overheat and you get stroked out
Know your symptoms if you’re sunstroked- dizzy, double vision, unexplained cold flashes, queasyness. If you catch this, sit the fuck down somewhere
Make cucumber water, get your fuckin vitamins or I’ll show up at your house and fart in your bathtub and dump ice cubes on your bed before making sure you’re equipped with aloe/sunscreen/fresh water/AC and desk fans
in light of some astonishingly racist behaviour, if you are the type of person who would dig in your heels and comb through a person’s blog to prove that they “aren’t ACTUALLY native”, or check the pages of users to see how many fourm posts they’ve made/when they joined the site to decide whether they deserve to have an opinion on anti-native racism, i want you to unfollow me immediately.
What’s up with FR culture’s use of “code phrases”. Like. It’s so frustrating. Do you know how garbage my brain is at reading?? It completely skips over words sometimes and I can read through several pages of generic info and rules “don’t be an ass blahblahblah” multiple times and still miss the stupid code phrase. It just. I dunno. Makes things super inaccessible??
It’s not a Flight Rising thing, it’s an old internet practice from forums that was used to weed out people who didn’t bother to read the rules of a thread, which was and still is a common problem.
Ah okay. I’d never seen it anywhere else but had a couple times around the FR forums, I wonder how FR picked it back up (I mean, let’s be real, I know why FR picked it back up)? I was under the impression FR was mostly teens and young adults (at least from what I’ve seen on the forums haha) and that age group likely wouldn’t be old enough to have been around for that use of it, I don’t think?
I guess it makes sense why people use them, but I find it frustrating when it’s a social thing like discord and they have several pages of common sense/common courtesy rules and still feel the need for a code phrase. I mean. If people are breaking those rules they’re just kinda assholes and they’re probably gonna do it anyway.
Oh, there are TONS of millenials (the youngest of us being mid-20s, oldest of us pushing 40) on FR. I’d say that most of the old guard users (those of us who have been around since 2013, ESPECIALLY those who contributed to the Kickstarter) joined when we were in college. Thus, we brought customs from forums/Livejournal with us onto FR.
Well, I’m gonna put my TLDR at the top and the rest of what I want to say under a cut, so folks can read however much they want to/know the results right away:

A note: I’m Jewish by blood, I’m also queer and trans. I’m one of those folks who’s right on the top of the list of right wing undesirables. Does this make me free of accountability? No, but it’s important context/worth noting.
Also important context: I’ll admit that these dragons are edgy, like oh my goodness you could cut your hands on that edge -- they’re also 4 years old. Pre-Charlottesville, pre-Unite the Right, pre-nazis invading political office.
So why didn’t I delete them right away? I took a long break from Flight Rising ‘cause I didn’t have time or interest and only in the past couple weeks have I been putting effort into remaking and retaining my lair. I was planning on grinding the treasure to rename those dragons, but since I’ve never been good at the grind despite playing the game for five years, now I’m just going to delete them.

I repeat: I understand the feelings here, and I’m going to make the changes I mentioned at the top TLDR, but can I just say...that I've had enough antisemitism in my life to be a little tired of the attitude that the only appropriate response to history is to ignore it, pretend it didn’t happen, and never risk making any references to historical events.

A reworking of the FR Anthro Height Chart, this time with multiple versions
Canon Sizes were determined using average dragon sizes from the FR Dragon Census as well as @olessan-lokenosse‘s Bogsneak and Gaoler Censuses all of which I’ll link in the notes here. The average lengths from these were put through a small reduction to get things into a more reasonable range and then converted to heights using the assumption that the middle breeds (mirror and wildclaw) would stand at roughly five and a half feet, and that the difference from one breed to the next would stay the same.
Headcanon sizes represent a few revisions I’ve made to better reflect how I personally see things. This is what I use for my lore and writing and is a bit less extreme.
Both of these have both height order and flight order versions which should be self explanatory. Also, seeing as tumblr is awful with wide images, I’ll probably be linking full res versions in the notes some time later, so keep your eyes open for that.
Reblogging again because I made a version with no reduction factor. This is using the raw data from the dragon census and the differences just get all the more ridiculous. Again assuming a mirror is around 5′6 (168 cm), fae come in around 11″ (28 cm) tall while Imps come in just shy of 24′ (287 cm)
