this is making me emotional
#i literally cry about the cave paintings#especially these cave paintings#i wanted to dedicate an entire chapter to them in my dissertation about the importance of economic access to the arts#i didnt have the words to do it so i had to only briefly mention it#but I cry whenever I think about them#its just so fucking beautiful man#those people died so so long ago I cant even comorehend it#or what the world looked like for them#but they where here!#they lived!#they loved!#they had family and friends and they ate meals with them and they looked at the fucking stars!#and can you even imagine how beautiful the night sky looked ro them#before ideas of the christian heaven and before ideas of any gods we know by name#what do you think they thought of when they looked up and saw the stars and saw the moon?#and they made art!#their lives were so short compared to ours and they had to worry about survival every aingle day#about getting water#about getting food#about staying warm#about caring for the sick and the elderly and the dying and the new borns and everything in between#they had to worry about predators and hunting and foraging#and the beutality of survival with so little#BUT THEY MADE ART#its so intrinsic and important to us as a species!#we need it just like we need air and water and food and shelter and saftey#we needed it then and we still need it now#and now we are orbiting the moon and taking photos of our planet#of our home#of the same places that the people whos hand prints are on that wall lived
