I asked one of my (male) friends to stop using the phrase “man up” and he has been using “fortify” for the past two weeks instead and it’s just a little thing but honestly it makes a difference

and tbh it’s also pretty funny when I start to deflate in the library and he leans over and goes “FORTIFY”

I just had an epiphany…

The world constantly tells us to “fake it til we make it” and to “exude confidence,” but the truly self-secure people are very open about themselves and their insecurities.

The people who build a social circle of trust and support are open about their doubts, fears, and insecurities.

I thought I was, but I think ever since I was young I hid behind this aura of mystery because I was afraid that the moment I opened my mouth and revealed too much of me, that people would just think I was a loser. And I feel like a little bit of that mystery shroud/security blanket still remains in place as a defense mechanism to keep away the judgement of others.
