the beginning of our lovely changyu's journey from country butcher to general, I could watch her fight all day
Fan Changyu.
I can seriously not get enough of the choreography of this fight scene. It's a chef's kiss!! It's a genius narrative and takes us through Changyu's thought process quite literally!
Starts with the opponent NOT underestimating her because she is a woman! Big W!
When he first attacks her, she doesn't anticipate the impact of the mace and so her defense was hasty! She couldn't fully absorb the brute force and falters.
She then quickly changes to attack mode and targets his body, soon realises her butcher knife would do nothing to his armour.
She now uses her body instead :
She expects a little damage but he's too strong to be affected by her attack. She now is in no position to attack and has to defend herself.
Look at her reaction time!! Slayed!!!
Eventually takes a hit because of the brute force from the mace. And she now has to change her strategy.
She then creates a distraction to catch him off guard and attacks him where he least expects her to - she aims for his head:
Gosh look at her!! Queeeen!!!
She's eventually thrown down but successfully manages to injure him.
Somewhere in between all this, she already realises the only way to win against him is by using his own weapon because she has exhausted everything else within her means.
He has two maces, so she can't go mace against mace either as it would be a power imbalance. Her only option is to get hold of one and turn it against him immediately before he has time to react.
This is where her deception begins. She creates the illusion that she is engaging him with the butcher knife against his mace, while using her other knife to subtly dislocate his arm joint. Eventually, his grip on one of the maces loosens.
She immediately takes this chance to strike his thighs with the knife where he doesn't have any protection and gets hold of the mace. This was the key bit: making sure he was no longer in a position to wield the other one.
Strikes him hard without giving him time to react.
MASTERPIECE!!!!
Pursuit of Jade is one of the best, if not the Chinese dramas I've ever seen. Visually striking in so many different ways but specifically in this battle scene in episode 26. As op said, it is a masterpiece.
Fan Changyu had already become a legend among soldiers for feats of strength. Imagine her fame after kicking Goliath's ass on the battlefield. Priceless.

Although I wasn't a huge fan of this movie overall Gilgamesh and Athena and this family table were fantastic.
RAOUL REPOSTED THIS ON HIS IG STORY STOP IT RIGHT NOW.
I've been waiting for this! It's all I could have hoped for. Great work! I love these two.
Two captains🫶
They're my favorites 🤗
I am loving this art. Keep up the good work!
SAM: Does vomiting feel good?
Darem: No. Of course not. It's awful.
SAM: If it doesn't feel good, and for most species it is a disgusting display, why would you do it.
Darem: Cool party trick. Duh.
Comfy Captain Nahla Ake
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Vitus Reflux
She is incredible and so is her space.
Help, I can't stop thinking about *her*
She is the best. And so are they together.
"undoing this character's death would take away his sacrifice and character arc" girl I don't give a shit. I'm bringing him back through the power of ao3 fix-it fics and there's nothing you can do to stop me x
Spock's death in The Wrath of Khan remains iconic. The scene is not just good Star Trek it's good cinema and highly emotional because of the history behind it. The same can't be said of a recent death but at the same time I am mourning the loss and wishing it weren't so. A03 is always a good decision.
Nahla Ake's defense squad consists off
1) Obel Wochak: the Klingon General who will happily go into battle against her or with her, will drunk with her (and party so hard the cops will show up on them). This is a man who will travel in secret just to see her knowing that he will likely have to deny what she wants but seeing her is enough. Obel is definitely on the squad as he would hear a distress call about her and bring a fleet to defend her .... Or just show up himself and fully armed like the Klingon he is and calmly request who wants to fight first.
2) Charles Vance: an Admiral in Starfleet, the man who started reading her service record 7 years before he even knew that the Academy was coming back. Then sought her out specifically FOR running the Academy. And when she pulled a "who is a disgraced Captain" moment on him immediately argued back that she wasn't and defended her .... To her face. Without having even revealed yet to her that he's been reading her service record .... No he did that when he finally brought up Obel ... Her old flame ... When he decided that she's the one he wanted to handle a Klingon issue despite the fact she's at the Academy and not the diplomatic core. Oh same as she helped with the Betazoids ... He keeps showing up around her. If he ain't ready to defend her .... He's definitely a fan ... Or something.
3) Lura Thok: our Klingon/Jem'Hadar Cadet Master, member of the Starfleet Academy Staff. Number One to Nahla, Commander in Starfleet. First Officer of the Athena .... And deliberately decided not to work at the War College and picked to work for Nahla (she gives a list of 3 reasons in the show that I can't remember off the top of my head right now). Lura clearly has a "ready to be at your side" behavior with Nahla even when she is showing up in the show all "you have to stop these misbehaving children" then grumpy because Nahla misbehaves too.
4) Zeeran Kelrec: Our reluctant War College Chancellor. That man just wants to sit and sip his tea with all the seriousness of a man contemplating battle strategies. And Nahla just keeps strolling around him barefoot, walking into his office like she owns it, and not letting him exist in peace. He wants to get away from her. He can't stand it. He's so done. And then to make matters worse ... In comes this man who clearly wants to be the cause of Nahla Ake's destruction and something inside Kelrec went "I'm gonna destroy this man" and now he's someone on Nahla Ake's defense squad and he doesn't now how he got there.
5) Jett Reno: She signed on when she came the academy and she is here for the ride. But also once Nahla Ake showed up and was a chaotic queen she was like "yeah I like her, I'll do some random things when she asked. Some weird fish ritual dinner thing? I'm in. Oh it's for the war college guy, I'm really in". Reno is in it for the ride .... And because she loves Lura.
6) The Doctor: okay, he doesn't even KNOW he is on the squad because he doesn't want to be close to anyone. But I know this man has tried to give Nahla Ake at least one proper physical just for Nahla to whirl away with way to many excuses as to why she was to busy to do one. And all his memories immediately pulled up another familiar Captain doing the same and he just immediately sighed and shoved Nahla into "protect her" without realizing he did it. (If they give us him patching her back together while talking about his last I might actually break - Roddenberry save me if they have it be one of the Cadets. He's definitely on the "defense squad" for all of them and doesn't even realize it)
7) The Cadets: All of them (even Mir - and the War College ones), especially after this last episode. The way that they were all so giddy happy after the prank episode. And proud and okay with her punishing them again even if they did the prank. They were READY to defend the school for themselves and for her. They were saying all the things she were and by this final episode you can see how much they were working to try to help each other across the schools no matter what, every little bickering thing went away. They may be angry and upset when they learn about all that happened but when they learn EVERYTHING.... These young adults are going to have a "not our Captain" reaction and I'm so eager to see when that kicks in.
I love that this show is building Nahla her own little protective squad (while also showing her constantly standing on her own - she is used to being alone and that is so clear in the show.). Like, she is so used to trusting her people to do her job while she faces the danger alone and I am eager to see this be the crew/cadets that show up at her back mid-danger (ignoring orders probably) and quote her back to her probably too and all "no one is alone here".
I love this. You're humor is on point. However, I ship Nahla and Zereen. So it only makes sense that he would want to destroy Braka. 😁
It is amazing how quickly you can miss a minor supporting character once things get real and they're taken away. After five episodes B'Avi and Dzolo we're nothing but War college and antagonists brought on screen to throw shade and act a part that separated them from the Academy Cadets. Now six episodes in and a fatal sacrifice behind us, I miss the potential for this Vulcan character. Hard to know why I grieve his passing. However I feel it is a disservice to him and to Dzolo that she wasn't there. Episode 6 just shows that this show continues to improve by the episode. I really enjoy the show. It can make me laugh. It can make me mad. It can give me good ships to sail. But most of all, for the naysayers, this is most definitely Star Trek. Keep up the good work.
Tales from the Frontier
A tragedy. Sadly I think this was too soon, or should never have been done. And without Dzolo present, it is all the worst. RIP B'Avi.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | Come, Let's Away
Loved seeing their team work in this episode.
Darem: Kyle's not the guy.
Caleb: He seems nice enough to me.
Darem: That's the problem. He's too nice.
Caleb: How is that a problem?
Darem: I'm just saying it's like a double negative. Two wrongs don't make it right.
Caleb: But you'd make it right.
Darem: Damn straight I would.
"Nicky that man could have killed you!"
"What´s the matter? You glad he didn´t?"
"Oh I´m glad you´re not a detective".
