Heading down into the Wizard Basement [shutters rattle] to do some reorganising/find something I can use to defeat that owl in wizardly combat. It's been almost 50 years since I last went down there, I wonder what I'll find...
The owl that keeps landing on my fence and staring at my tower has been getting closer and closer to the Garden of Rare Ingredients. I saw the thing *counting* the types of plants?
Can't fool me, wizard. You want to count? Ole Hannek's about to put the "count" in "counterspell"!
The damn owl counterspelled my counterspell and flew off! At least we absolutely know it's a wizard now.
Times like these you really appreciate living where basically noone can see you lose a wizard duel with a bird.

It would be wonderful to visit the other wizards in the Tumbling Plane. If it wasn't for the Planar Barrier...
Perhaps I shall attempt to pass through when 2nd Convergence occurs. I'm sure we can sustain a portal for an hour or so by that time.
YES COME VISIT MEEE
I would love to, my good Good Wizard. We are at the wrong end of the year for it on my plane. Interestingly, it seems that your "Hallowed Een" is very similar to the Convergences. It is a shame they don't line up.
I have recently had an idea for limited explorations beyond the barrier, though it requires a great deal of energy. I shall ask my apprentice to spool up that machine of hers and we'll give it a go, please hold...
*is waiting*
[An extremely unstable looking split of near white, purple light appears in the air, arcing erratically. At its centre a portal opens, spewing out a thin, cold, dark purple fog. It struggles to stabilise at a diameter of about 4 inches.
Through it, heavily desaturated, you can make out a stone brick room with a large, industrial looking machine in the centre. Atop it are two huge, purple crystals suspended in a bell jar that extends vertically past the area you can see.]
One second!
[An obsidian orb drops from the opening. Around it is a brass band, machined to allow the orb and a stick of rough cut quartz to be held together. After a second, an electric blue iris appears in the orb. It rises, 5.5ft or so into the air, and looks at you, ominously. The portal shrinks down, but remains barely open. The stick of quartz flickers a dim white in time with the words you hear].
IT WORKED! Where are we?!
[The fracture in the fabric of space flickers of its own accord].
*good wizard helps stabilize and widen the portal* this is wizard island! Nice to see you!
[The portal feels incredibly heavy, you see lights and indicators on the machine in the background flicker wildly. A Gnome woman runs around in a panic trying to stabilise everything.
Hannek stands before you, an elderly Halfling in a blue robe and pointed hat, covered in sewn on star patches. He looks shocked, delighted, then concerned.]
Oh! That's... actually incredible! I'm going to stay on this side though. Passing through the planar barrier is very much a "one step at a time" thing. Thank you, but you can uh... [He looks over his shoulder at the loudly humming machine and his panicked apprentice]... you can let go of the portal for now. Thank you, though!
[The air around the obsidian orb flickers, an image of the Halfling wizard appearing around it. His head is centred around the floating orb, making the base of his robe appear a couple of feet off of the ground].
Your magic's giving me enough bandwidth to cast an illusion spell around the orb though, very good! I stole it off of an evil wizard in my adventuring days, it's the only scrying orb I have that levitates of its own accord.
Wizard island sounds wonderful! Are we in your house?
No we're in my garden! My house is behind me! *Good wizard releases their grasp on the portal following Hannek's instructions* do you have flowers where you are?
[The Portal returns to its barely open state, hovering above a nearby flowerbed. The floating illusion of Hannek looks around.]
Ah! Yes, that makes sense! Fascinating! Yes, we have flowers in Alma! That's the name of the world I uh... live in. I live deep in a swamp, so most of the flowers are more giant leafy bushes or smell awful. I've had a few nice plants grow in my tower's garden, but this is far nicer to look at!
Well I'm glad you like them! Do you want some seeds?
Oooooh that would be wonderful, do you have anything that might thrive in a warm, humid environment, but with a pop of colour?
Ah yes! I do, swamp rose mallow! *I stick a few seeds through the portal* I could never get these to work so I hope you have luck with them
[The portal writhes open a little to help you put them through].
Oooo, I shall have to keep you informed! Thank you very much.
[Hannek, the real one, pops some closed, dull grey flower heads through the portal. The illusory Hannek mimics the motions, but they remain off to the side and 5ft in the air].
I recently had a bumper harvest of Glowing Gloomleaf! They don't look like much now, but if you grow the seeds from those and wait until the sun goes down, the leaves emit a bright, blue glow!
I plant them lining paths so I can see where I'm walking at night, but they also work in both magic resistance and illumination potions. Perhaps you might find a place for them in this wonderful garden of yours!

Haven't seen those cheesecake mercenaries in a while... I hope they're alright. I also hope that if they're not, they don't need me to help while I'm in the middle of an important experiment again.
Wizard Tip #2: Schedule your local mythology confirming displays of arcane prowess around your actual work, if you can.

Curious. I have seen many allusions here to a nearby "hell site" on your side of the Planar Barrier, yet, my scrying orbs do not detect anything the old texts tell me to expect regarding demonic entities. Further study required, perhaps the barrier is affecting my visions.
Ristoffa Thaend, 5th of Eir 1163 2E. This is a test of the Sender Array as a voice to text solution. Array seems nominal, typewriter typing accurately. As per Master Hannek's request: I am beginning phase two of the test.
Ooookay... commence relay split via Orb of Distant Communication. I know that messing around with the Barrier is frowned upon but surely Master Hannek could have given the orb a better name... wait no, typewriter uh... delete that last sentence? Ugh.
Are we... we're sending? Oh! Oh it works! This is very strange, I must remember to ask Master Hannek how this orb... good thing we're automatically taking notes! Wait... oh shit, the Array's spiking in... nope! Test complete, appending first paragraph to Orb of Distant Sending communication and deactivating Sender Arra...

Airships overhead flying NWS flags. It's rare to see them this far out, I deliberately chose an area of swamp away from trade and patrol routes. Ristoffa, my apprentice, mentioned something to do with rebels?
Increasing the strength of my wards. The last thing I need is the military dragging me into their mess again. Apologies if our communiqés are affected somewhat while this blows over.
Incredible harvest on the Glowing Gloomleaf last night! I do love a margin for error (alchemy has never been my strong suit). Ristoffa, my apprentice, has outfitted the laboratory with a machine that grinds depleted Merlier Crystals exceptionally fine and uniform. Once my shipment of Knotthorn arrives in town, these Potions of Magic Resistance should be ready to brew!
I never understood why they call it Glowing "Gloomleaf". It sheds a delightful, pale blue glow. I plant it along the border of the path for natural exterior illumination, and suggest you do too!
Honestly by this point any uneventful day is a blessing. The enchanted kitchen made a great tomato soup with the fresh food Ristoffa, my assistant, bought in town earlier.
We're taking an early evening and working on personal projects. I'm going to tend the garden (I need to harvest the Glowing Gloomleaf, which can only be done at night) and Ristoffa was last seen disappearing into a side room with a welding torch and a Floating Disc covered in sheet metal. Good for her.
