Anime 119

Boruto I was so sad when Naruto ended.. and then I was kind of hyped when I found out this was a thing! Also a little skeptical, but yeah. 293 episodes later and I'm looking forward to the next chapter, a lot! With that said, I needed a good 50 episodes before it clicked completely. The kids were waay to skilled in the beginning, still I get that it would be a little repetitive, if you've actually watched all of Naruto.. So after a while I got used to it and when the story actually started to get interesting it was great (for me at least). So many new characters to like and yet we get to see some of the old but gold ones as well. After the last seconds of the last episode, I'm hyped for the rest! Mashle I saw a lot of memes and stuff from this all over the internet, so of course I had to check it out. It is quite stupid, and yet so much fun! It's a good mix of fun characters, action, a nice story and the animation itself is just humorous. Looking forward to the next chapters! Anime 117

Ranma 1/2 (2024) I was surprised when this came out. The original Ranma 1/2 is one of my all time favorite shows! And I was positively surprised as well. The all over look has been modernized (obviously) and the whole thing have a smoother and softer look, and way more colorful - I like the way MAPPA upgraded this. I was also curious about how they would follow the manga/original anime, but they are (so far) quite spot on as well. For me this is just a somewhat new road down memory lane, in a good way. The old one will forever be a favorite, but for younger viewer this could be a good version. Only hot water can reverse these changes, but any further contact with cold water opens the can of worms once more.

Unfortunately, the trouble does not end there, as Ranma finds out about his betrothal to one of the daughters of Soun Tendou, his father's closest friend. During the families' first meeting, it is decided that Ranma is to be married to Akane, the youngest daughter, a decision that is met with vehement protests from both sides. The two are simply not compatible, yet they are forced to live under one roof. Ranma's status quo further adds to the chaos, leading him to a series of comedic situations and misunderstandings that, in the grand scheme of things, may just be what he needs to work with Akane.

Anime 116

Blue Period I started this quite a while ago on Netflix, and and several months later (as of yesterday) I just wanted to finish it. It's a slow show, kind of.. There's no action and no major plot twists, just following the journey of a handful of art students through some ups and downs. It was a nice change of pace, and visually it's really pleasing to watch. I don't know how memorable this will be in a year, but still a nice series. Title: Blue Period / Burū Piriodo Director: Koji Masunari, Katsuya Asano Watched language: Japanese Genre: Drama Studio: Seven Arcs Episodes: 12 Release year: 2012 Synopsis: Yatora Yaguchi is a fairly popular student who excels in school, but secretly grapples with feelings of emptiness and frustration. After a night out with his friends, Yatora sees the morning scene of Shibuya in a shade of blue that awfully touches him. This feeling would inspire his first drawing for art class, which he normally viewed as a useless subject. However, later, when visiting his high school's art club and feeling passionate for something for the first time, Yatora decides to pursue art. He eventually aspires to attend the Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA) after he graduates from high school, the most prestigious public art university in Japan. The acceptance rate is extremely low, so to pass the entrance examination, Yatora must work very hard.

Anime 115

Wind Breaker I opened Crunchyroll one day recently and this show just hit me at once. The art style just drew me in and the plotline sounded like an okay watch, so I just began! And in a few hours I was done. This was a fun one! The story itself isn't new and ground breaking, but a good art style intrigues me right away. I like the shows that have many characters (like Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Ranma and so on), mainly because of two reasons. One; you get a lot of different personalities adding up in the situations just for the fun of it and that's it. Or two; Through time we will learn everything - eeverything about them. Anyway I'm looking forward to the next season! Title: Wind Breaker / WIND BREAKER Director: Toshifumi Akai Watched language: Japanese Genre: Action Studio: CloverWorks Episodes: 13 Release year: 2024 Synopsis: From an early age, Haruka Sakura was made an outcast due to his unconventional appearance and lack of social skills. However, the rough treatment turned him into a proficient fighter, which is now the only thing he prides himself on. Starting at Furin High School, where it is rumored that strength is valued over academics, Sakura has only one goal—taking the top spot. Involved in a street brawl the day before his enrollment, Sakura happens to meet a group of his future schoolmates. Instead of the usual rejection, they fight alongside him, demonstrating that what the school actually cares about is protecting the town of Makochi from any harm—hence why the students call themselves "Bofurin." Surprised by the support and appreciation of the townspeople, Sakura has a hard time accepting their goodwill. Anime 114

The Millionaire Detective - Balance: Unlimited Saw someone online recommend this and since I like the art style I began watching it! It's a short story, nevertheless it's an enjoyable watch. A fun mix of characters and a great deal of comedy in between the seriousness of the story. They also rounded it up pretty well. I liked it! Title: Fugou Keiji: Balance: Unlimited / The Millionaire Detective - Balance: Unlimited Director: Tomohiko Itō Watched language: Japanese Genre: Comedy, detective, mystery Studio: CloverWorks Episodes: 11 Release year: 2020 Synopsis: Daisuke Kambe, a detective with extreme personal wealth, is assigned to the Modern Crime Prevention Headquarters. Officers who have caused problems for the Metropolitan Police Department are sent to this place. Daisuke is partnered with Haru Katou, who is repulsed by Daisuke's bribery. Challenging mysteries unfold in front of the two detectives, who must work together to solve them.

Fena: Pirate Princess A friend of mine recommended this one to me, and since it was only 12 episodes long I gave it a shot! A cute story, pretty visuals and a gallery of nice characters. I liked the story and I kinda wish there were more episodes. We'll see what the future holds. A good watch though! Anime 112

Jujutsu Kaisen I saw trailers, pictures, memes and such of this show everywhere! So what else to do that start watching. The first couple of episodes didn't really catch me the way I hoped, but after a while I was hooked as everyone else. I was so sure the second season was out, but no.. So now it's a waiting game (like so much else)! I really like the style of this. The character gallery is good mix and the typical anime expressions in the middle of it all makes the settings perfect. It's just a perfect match for my humor. Title: Jujutsu Kaisen / 呪術廻戦 Director: Seong-Hu Park Watched language: Japanese Genre: Action, fantasy Studio: MAPPA Episodes: 23 Release year: 2020 Synopsis: Idly indulging in baseless paranormal activities with the Occult Club, high schooler Yuuji Itadori spends his days at either the clubroom or the hospital, where he visits his bedridden grandfather. However, this leisurely lifestyle soon takes a turn for the strange when he unknowingly encounters a cursed item. Triggering a chain of supernatural occurrences, Yuuji finds himself suddenly thrust into the world of Curses—dreadful beings formed from human malice and negativity—after swallowing the said item, revealed to be a finger belonging to the demon Sukuna Ryoumen, the "King of Curses." Yuuji experiences first-hand the threat these Curses pose to society as he discovers his own newfound powers. Ranking of Kings We were browsing through Crunchyroll and this anime had one of the header slides, and my friend said she got this recommended. And a few hours later we were halfway through! This was soo enjoyable! The art style itself is amazing, something simple and yet so fresh. All the different expressions are amazing and just draw you into the moment. The character gallery is massive and yet not to much at the same time, and all the character developments and relationships are nice as well. The story is well followed through, and the music is also spot on and very catchy. This is one anime I will for sure watch again. Title: Ousama Ranking / Ranking of Kings Director: Yōsuke Hatta / Makoto Fuchigami Watched language: Japanese Genre: Adventure, fantasy Studio: Wit Episodes: 23 Release year: 2021 Synopsis: The people of the kingdom look down on the young Prince Bojji, who can neither hear nor speak. They call him "The Useless Prince" while jeering at his supposed foolishness. However, while Bojji may not be physically strong, he is certainly not weak of heart. When a chance encounter with a shadow creature should have left him traumatized, it instead makes him believe that he has found a friend amidst those who only choose to notice his shortcomings. He starts meeting with Kage, the shadow, regularly, to the point where even the otherwise abrasive creature begins to warm up to him. Kage and Bojji's unlikely friendship lays the budding foundations of the prince's journey, one where he intends to conquer his fears and insecurities. Despite the constant ridicule he faces, Bojji resolves to fulfill his desire of becoming the best king he can be.

Konosuba A friend recommended this to us so we just had to check it out. And it's hilarious. There's quite a few animes with people going to a different world, but the comedy in this gives a great laugh. The character gallery is quite colorful and it's just fun. She provides the NEET with two options: continue on to heaven or reincarnate in every gamer's dream—a real fantasy world! Choosing to start a new life, Kazuma is quickly tasked with defeating a Demon King who is terrorizing villages. But before he goes, he can choose one item of any kind to aid him in his quest, and the future hero selects Aqua. But Kazuma has made a grave mistake—Aqua is completely useless! Anime 109

Horimiya I've been wanting to watch a decent Horimiya anime for aages. I read the manga a long time ago, and ever since I’ve been wanting an anime. And I was so stoked when the OVA’s came out several years ago, but the happiness was quite short. I didn’t like the style very much, neither the fact that there were very few episodes. But now ladies and gentlemen! They actually made something great! The story is true to the mange (as I can remember), the character gallery is a fun mix, and the overall art style is so pretty. Even though I always knew what would happen it still gave me this good, warm feeling as the story went on. I really enjoyed this with a huge smile on my face. 10/10 will watch again. Title: Horimiya / Hori-san and Miyamura-kun Director: Masashi Ishihama Watched language: Japanese Genre: Comedy, romance, slice of life Studio: CloverWorks Episodes: 13 Release year: 2021 Synopsis: On the surface, the thought of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura getting along would be the last thing in people's minds. After all, Hori has a perfect combination of beauty and brains, while Miyamura appears meek and distant to his fellow classmates. However, a fateful meeting between the two lays both of their hidden selves bare. Even though she is popular at school, Hori has little time to socialize with her friends due to housework. On the other hand, Miyamura lives under the noses of his peers, his body bearing secret tattoos and piercings that make him look like a gentle delinquent. Having opposite personalities yet sharing odd similarities, the two quickly become friends and often spend time together in Hori's home. As they both emerge from their shells, they share with each other a side of themselves concealed from the outside world.

Anime 108

Orange  I’ve wanted to watch this for a while, but never had the urge to go and do it. Until now. Since it’s only 13 episodes it goes by pretty fast, yet the story fits perfectly. The sci-fi in the middle of it all is a little weird, but it’s not too bad or out of place. I like the style of this and I guess that’s why I was drawn to it, and the six main characters are a good match for each other. While watching it the mood could change from happy to sad and back again, but it’s still a good one.  Title: Orange Director: Hiroshi Hamasaki / Naomi Nakayama Watched language: Japanese Genre: Drama, romance, sci-fi, shounen, slice of life Studio: Telecom Animation Film Episodes: 13 Release year: 2016 Synopsis: Naho Takamiya's first day of her sophomore year of high school is off to an uneasy start. After waking up late, she receives a strange letter addressed to her. However, the letter is from herself—10 years in the future! At first, Naho is skeptical of the note; yet, after witnessing several events described to take place, she realizes the letter really is from her 26-year-old self. The note details that Naho's future life is filled with regrets, and she hopes that her younger self can correct the mistakes that were made in the past. The letter also warns her to keep a close eye on the new transfer student, Kakeru Naruse. Naho must be especially careful in making decisions involving him, as Kakeru is not around in the future. With the letter as her guide, Naho now has the power to protect Kakeru before she comes to regret it once more.

ReLIFE This was hilarious, and I am almost sad that it wasn’t more episodes. Might have to read the manga as well. The comedy of this was right up my alley, funny situations, a great likable character gallery and some surprises here and there. Almost binged the whole thing in a day with a big smile on my face! I will also for sure check out more anime from the studio in charge. Title: ReLIFE Director: Satoru Kosaka  Watched language: Japanese Genre: Romance, school, slice of life  Studio: TMS Entertainment Episodes: 13 + 4   Release year: 2016 Synopsis: Dismissed as a hopeless loser by those around him, 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki bounces around from one job to another after quitting his first company. His unremarkable existence takes a sharp turn when he meets Ryou Yoake, a member of the ReLife Research Institute, who offers Arata the opportunity to change his life for the better with the help of a mysterious pill. Taking it without a second thought, Arata awakens the next day to find that his appearance has reverted to that of a 17-year-old.

Anime 106

Beastars I’ve wanted to watch this since the first time I saw the trailer on Netflix, and today was the day! Literally.. Saw the first 5 episodes for breakfast and the rest during/after dinner. So yeah, this was my day. But oh my, what an intro! The visuals of the anime is very pleasant, and it’s a slight mix of 2D and some 3D, and then there’s the intro sequence - it’s in stop motion! We thought that was really cool, not only is the opening theme catchy, but the movements of the stop motion is very nicely done. I bet the song will go on repeat for quite some time the next weeks. The story was nice and the characters looked so good, it’s also fun to see different types of animals in a “human” setting. Who knew birds would look great with actual legs, haha. Can’t wait for 2021 and the second season. Anime 105

Pokémon: Sun & Moon (series 6)  These episodes went by far too quickly. At first I missed the XYZ because of the art style, because it was so visually satisfying, but after a little while the new art style was a nice fresh addition to the series. I liked the new typical “anime expressions” as well, even though it was weird sometimes (obviously not used to it), but it was still quite enjoyable. The whole island challenge-vibe reminded me of the Orange Island adventures (season 2), but not in a bad way, since it’s still quite different with the Pokémon school as well. The character gallery was also a nice combination of people and there were never a boring moment because they were so many different life stories, and we witnessed them all. Almost to the end. Would’ve liked to see the conclusion of what happened to Lillie and Gladion’s father, but hey. It was some sort of closure. Now onward to the new Pokémon series! Eager to explore the island, Ash and Pikachu run wild with excitement, quickly losing their way while chasing after a Pokémon. The pair eventually stumbles upon the Pokémon School, an institution where students come to learn more about these fascinating creatures. At the school, when he and one of the students—the no-nonsense Kiawe —have a run-in with the nefarious thugs of Team Skull, Ash discovers the overwhelming might of the Z-Moves, powerful attacks originating from the Alola region that require the trainer and Pokémon to be in sync. Later that night, he and Pikachu have an encounter with the guardian deity Pokémon of Melemele Island, the mysterious Tapu Koko. The Pokémon of legend bestows upon them a Z-Ring, a necessary tool in using the Z-Moves. Dazzled by his earlier battle and now in possession of a Z-Ring, Ash and Pikachu decide to stay behind in the Alola Region to learn and master the strength of these powerful new attacks.

Anime 104

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun This is a four episode OVA from 2012, and I’ve watched these through the last five years or so. Needless to say I don’t remember much from each episode, but i really like the manga. I also wish this was an actual 12-24 episodes anime, not just an OVA, but hey, it’s still a little bit entertaining. The art style is also really cute.

Anime 103

Pokémon (series 5) I still use Pokémon as a background show whilst doing something else, but wow. After quite a bad season of Black and White, this really was a turn of events. First of all - the visuals. The visuals are stunning! The animations are good and the colors just pop! The story and plot are better than the previous series, and I love the characters this time. When you get used to the new four person travel company you also find that they are all important to the story in different ways. None of them are put aside, and the character growth we’re witnessing over time is great. It’s good to see that Ash actually can think for himself in a deeper and more reflecting way. He hasn’t forgotten his emotions after all. The music is also great and is a good match to the story and happenings. All in all I would say this is one of the better seasons in a while, and I would like to see more in this style! So I’m curious to see what happens after Sun and Moon again.  Title: Pokémon the Series: XY Director: Tetsuo Yajima, Kunihiko Yuyama Watched language: English Genre: It’s Pokémon!
