food is so important in haikyuu, the theme brought up again and again that food turns into energy and muscle so that you can keep doing what you love (volleyball).

i was having feelings about kita becoming a farmer and growing that food that samu cooks and that eventually becomes tsumu's muscles that he uses to master his new serve with the jackals, but then i realized:

coach ukai is a farmer too. :') he wakes up soooo early to help on the family farm before going in to coach for morning practice, and he even looks after the konbini his team goes to after practice too. he's not just helping their plays and advising them on what to eat, he's growing and providing the food they're putting into their system in the first place.

furudate's writing is so good because he uses parallels with different characters/relationships at different times and contexts to re-emphasize his themes, and it turns out ukai's been out there reppin' farm-to-table-to-volleyball all along hahaha.
