My favorite dumb factoid is that Dick was cosmically ordained to die during Infinite Crisis.

This is not only the reason why he constantly gets into near-death experiences (because the universe is trying to kill him to right itself), but also there’s an infinite number of realities killing him gruesomely in order to achieve this and maintain their universe’s integrity.

Dick is stuck in a perpetual loop of suffering across timelines because he was predesignated to do so to save it, like some kind of DC Jesus, and it is the silliest enforced kicking-while-down ever. By the decree of the goddamn multiverse, Dick cannot have a break.

Idk why but as a kid I used to get hysterically upset everytime I would imagine a gif of a rotating cow because I could never stop the cow from rotating no matter how hard I tried and I would be crying and no one knew why

This is probably an unnecessary addition, but OCD is missed in cases like these because it's deeply misunderstood by most people.

It's talked about like being obsessively neat or repeating pointless tasks is the main part of it, when really those are just potential symptoms.

The main thing behind OCD is not being about to turn off a thought. There's a thing where most people can just stop thinking about something. If it's over, it's not relevant, it doesn't matter anymore, people can turn their attention away. For OCD, that mechanism can get stuck. And some thought that was supposed to just temporarily pass through your head just stays there. An image of an object rotating. An anxiety about something bad happening. A wish that you made on a dandelion. These are all things that have at some point gotten stuck in my head, sometimes for years at a time.

The compulsions, the rituals, are the person trying to address the thought so it can go away. After all, if you're worried about the door not being locked you can check the lock. But for someone with OCD, that doesn't make the stuck thought go away. So they check it again. And again. And they made a ritual, maybe if I check it exactly five times, I'll know that it's locked and I can let this worry go.

It helps a little. It feels like you're doing something. But it doesn't solve the problem. Actual therapy for OCD involves not doing the compulsion. Instead, you ignore the thought, move around it, try not to give it space in your life. Your mind won't let the thought go normally, so instead you fill yourself with other thoughts. Other parts of your life.

It's not easy at first. Your mind fights you on it. But as you get practice, it gets easier. You learn tricks around your own mind, ways to look at the thought and go, hm. I guess I'll go distract myself now. It does get better. I promise

Okay i knew that i probably have ocd for a bit, but there was this one thing that i couldn't find a proper explanation for that i just started calling "the ball" where mainly when I'm trying to fall asleep i will sometimes get this thought of a size or pattern changing ball amongst other similar things and it will genuinely drive me crazy until I actually manage to sleep

#god don’t even get me STARTED on the fucking cylinders #every once in a while the Terror Cylinders From Hell will appear and it’s like i’m being electrocuted by 1000000 volts

Question, I want to write characters like Babs, Cass, and Alfred without falling into the trap of ohhh these are perfect, all knowing characters who never do wrong and are perfect loving supportive people UwU that drives me nuts when I see it but I also want to avoided pivoting into the pitfall of making them horrible, unlikable people when trying to introduce flaws and bad habits or what people would call undesirable personality traits, or pulling stuff out of nowhere.

Do you or anybody else know of canon flaws, bad habits or personality traits these characters have that make them nuanced? I know for example Alfred's inaction has often caused a lot of issues, but that's like the gist of it. Or Cass's habit of running away when things get hard could be neat but that often falls into the issue of DC's bad writing and erasing her that im unsure if I should use at all.

Actually a general explanation of each batfams characters canon personalities, the good, the bad, and the ugly would be neat if it already exists and someone knows where a good one might be!

(obviously most of these depend on the writer/situation, but overall these are the flaws i've picked up on based on the comics i've read over the years. this is gonna be so controversial but just know i say all of this with the utmost love and adoration for these guys ❤️)

Alfred Pennyworth:

Enables Bruce's questionable decisions even when Alfred knows that standing by and letting stuff happen will result in Bruce (or others) getting hurt

Supported Bruce when he decided that bringing a child into a life of crime-fighting was a good idea in the first place

Shares Bruce's bluntness and lack of tact in certain situations, which can make him come across as rude or unsympathetic

Master manipulator (a talent he usually uses for good, but it varies)

Thinks he's the best cook in the world but everyone secretly hates SO much of the stuff he makes

Barbara Gordon:

Prideful to a fault

Stubborn (though this goes for basically every other batfam member)

Easily frustrated when someone else doesn't live up to Barbara's expectations of what they should do or who they should be

Control freak <3

Can and will pull the "I'm right and you're wrong because I say so" card as needed

Is VERY similar to Bruce in her obsessive need to have a million solutions to every possible situation because she's terrified of being caught unprepared or helpless

Constant surveillance over everything and everyone all the time hmmm

Cassandra Cain:

Impulsive

Unconcerned for her own safety/highkey suicidal

Arrogant when it comes to her fighting skills (as she should be because she IS one of the best fighters in the world, but goddamn does that arrogance get her in trouble often)

Struggles to connect with others, not just because of the communication gap, but because Cass deems herself "bad" or unworthy of love, so she'll pull herself away from others when she gets even a small indication that they have a problem with her or that she doesn't deserve them

Prioritizes the crime-fighting part of her life and lets everything else fall through the cracks

Self-hatred final boss

Like he spent all of his adrenaline looking for bruce and when bruce comes home he thought everything would be fine and he'll be okay again but then he struggle w like. A very high amount of anxiety that leaves him very unsettled. And tim being tim doesnt even know whats wrong w himself.

Oh Great DC Comics Master, I request your opinion and all-knowing information! I've been seeing various fanon ideas for various characters taking on a mom-like influence or being a mom-like figure on the members of the Batfam and I was wondering how many of those theories are actually true and, if they're not, where the fandom may have gotten the idea of it. (I've seen Leslie, Diana, Talia, and Selina, but I'm curious if there are more of them as well.)

Dr. Leslie Thompkins:

Leslie Thompkins has consistently been a mother figure to Bruce for...about as long as she's been a major Batman character, I think? As the Batfam's primary healthcare provider (besides Alfred, of course), Leslie takes on a caretaking role not just with Bruce, but with the Batfamily as a whole—especially when it comes to keeping a close eye on the batkids' well-being because she doesn't trust Bruce not to get them killed in his mission.

Diana Prince (Wonder Woman):

Diana, from what I've seen, is more "Bruce's cool friend" than anything, and I've never seen her depicted as a maternal figure towards any of the Batkids. They like her, though! And she's familiar enough with them all since it would be weird not to know your BFF's kids.

Talia al Ghul:

Talia is indeed a motherly figure, but only towards Damian because he's her son (duh). Her relationship with the other batkids varies wildly. Talia took on a maternal role when Jason was recovering from being resurrected, but then they had sex once he was grown-ish and lucid, soooooo make of that what you will. Otherwise, she's not close with any of the other batkids and openly dislikes many of them (cough DICK cough).

Selina Kyle (Catwoman):

Selina, on the other hand, is the closest thing the collective batkids have to a mom. They literally acknowledge that in the comics, multiple times, and I eat it up every single time. Bruce is the dad and Selina is the mom and that's that. <3
