Some old fart retired hockey player goes on ESPN and does an interview where he talks about how gay DEI initiatives are unfair and are ruining Hockey by keeping the good ole boys from getting their chance to prove themselves on the ice.

Ilya, as the captain of the gayest NHL team, is asked for comment on this. Of course, this is half way through the season while the Cens are sitting first in their division and second in the league. So Ilya says, “Ah, yes, I can see how he would think that. It seems unfair that being queer is clearly such an advantage for hockey players. There is a rampant debate online over whether Ilya actually understands that the original comments were homophobic or if he genuinely believes that people think gay guys are too good at hockey. People also start speculating about who the fourth gay player is because Luca hasn’t actually come out publicly yet.

Scott Hunter has to put out a statement that he doesn’t believe his homosexuality has had any impact, positive or negative, on his athletic ability even though he believes being out of the closet and in a fulfilling relationship has made it easier to focus on the game.

If there's one thing that gives me the ick it's when people paint Will as being much less educated/knowledgeable than Hannibal and give him a distaste for all Hannibal's interest. Some of you act like this man never opened a book. He WROTE and published one?? He has bookshelves full of classical titles in his house (he has a big house. We only ever get to see his living room and kitchen, who knows what kind of study he has that’s filled with books). Including poetry (he has Shakespeare and Wilde on his shelves, who knows what else with less big spine titles). That man has a big house! He doesn't put his bed on the ground floor for no reason. And no, Will wouldn't dislike classical music and neither would he be new to it. He has a piano with sheet music (so actively playing) at home. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays more instruments. Maybe not as obscure as Hannibal's harpsichord and theremin, but more nonetheless. Will loves art, too!!! He knows a couple of things about S. Botticelli, better assume he knows other things. I mean, he can consider Hannibal's tableaus art, calls killing beautiful, that of itself is an art form and artistic vision of the world he shares with Hannibal. He can also cook. Yes, not like Hannibal, but that man wouldn't let Will sous-chef if he was a bad cook no matter how in love he may be with him. There's gotta be some skill to get permission to use Hannibal's kitchen, no matter how pretty someone may be. Hannibal can discuss any subject he wants with Will because he'll catch onto it. I'm not even going to start on the fact that some people act like Will isn't able to keep up with Hannibal's conversations and metaphors. That man bounces them back at him twice as hard. Will Graham. Isn't. Stupid. !!!.

He's not clueless, he's not uncultured, he's not pedestrian. The thing about Will is that he's adaptable. Hannibal doesn't coax his darkness out of him, he brings Will's true self to the light, which is a highly intelligent, cultured, dangerous and fearless man. The fact that he prefers a minimal life, masking his knowledge and also his wealth (because he is wealthy, but that's a different story), over Hannibal's eye-catching dramatics doesn't mean that he doesn't have it. Yes, not as much as Hannibal, but they do have similar interests. If anyone would be clueless it's Hannibal, because I can guarantee that man DOESN'T know how to fix a boat motor with his Aristocratic French boarding school past. (Although he would learn really fast if Will taught him.) They are way more alike than some make them out to be, Hannibal just has a huge amount of theatrics that Will doesn't care for. Hannibal flaunts his personality, Will owns it. That's the difference.

That scene where Will sits in Hannibal's chair at his desk has a chokehold on me. He's invading his space - the space of a man as particular about who is allowed there as one can be. He walked all around the room and touched all his stuff pretty much from the beginning, to which he pretty much got no reaction.

He disregards the typical positions of their professional dynamic completely, either walking around the room with his back turned or spreading his legs every millimetre that chair allows. I mean I would assume someone getting actual therapy would not actively turn away from their psychiatrist and either insisting on an actively defensive and disinterested body language or present himself that... seductively.

Even the manspreading is kind of defensive though. It feels like a "yeah. And what are you gonna do about it?" demeanour. When he's not throwing himself at Hannibal with those big, sad encephalitis eyes, he seems to insist on a certain dominance there and it goes without being said that Hannibal finds that at the very least highly intriguing.

When he's sitting at his desk, that turned into something casual. Of course he's allowed to do that. Will is allowed to touch anything in that room. He's allowed to shape their dynamic with their positions. From a first glance, someone sitting and being towered over would seem submissive but here, it's not. It's Hannibal letting Will invade and disregard his authority. It's Hannibal looking down at him like a man desperate to serve.

All that is manipulative. Of course it is. Will seeks comfort in casual dominance and Hannibal gives in to submission in order to make his words seem entirely innocent but you see, my point is that my favourite dynamic for them has a fundament to stand on even back in S1. I love how Boyfriend™️ Shane becomes with Ilya at the cottage. He’s picking him up from the airport. He’s carrying in his suitcase. He’s making hamburgers on the grill. He’s lighting campfires and holding Ilya in his lap and scaring off loons. Shane Hollander might be surprised when Ilya pulls out the boyfriend word at dinner with his parents but this man has been training his whole life to be a Boyfriend™️

I have this headcanon where Shane is the more butch one between the two. I imagine his dad taught him how to be handy around the house, how to do some minor construction/repairs, how to start a campfire, and he enjoys the outdoors, and maybe did scouts when he was a boy. And in contrast, Ilya grew up as a slick, city boy in Moscow and hated the wilderness and hires people to fix things and is like afraid of spiders.

Btw, in this headcanon Ilya just *loves* when Shane goes Boyfriend™️ mode (and later Husband™️ mode). Ilya loves watching that man mow the grass and repair the deck. He loves being taken care of by Shane, and especially loves it when he does it in front of people. Neither are emasculated by the other in the ways they embody their own masculinity within the relationship. It just balances them out and turns each other on.

it's important to me that ilya remains captain of the centaurs after shane joins, but i have a specific picture in my mind of shane being assistant captain and being generally harmless and super chill , so the centaurs see him as like the chill parent (something to be said about shane being content in letting someone else, specifically His Someone, have the reins and enjoying not being in charge) but then ilya has to be out for a few weeks for like health or smth so shane goes into Captain Mode and the centaurs are scared shitless by how intense he gets all of a sudden. the most intense drills of all time. the hardest plays they've ever heard of. the strictest practices on earth. and they suddenly understand why shane led the metros/voyagers to victory so many times and why ilya treats him like the boss in their relationship. and then as soon as ilya comes back he turns it off and the centaurs are like Oh Thank Fuck Because What The Hell Was That

I don’t know if I’m allowed to ask this, so obviously you can ignore it.

You think less of people that use ai chatbots, but do you hate if they are using or only think less? I am currently on c.ai but I’m trying to get off of it. The appeal of getting to be exactly my own character with my own responses is really strong and making it hard. And because I’m not on it constantly in a day and only use it at night or early morning, it’s hard telling myself that I should quit because it’s “not as bad as others and not effecting my day”. But I hate most gen ai, it’s hypocritical I know, but bots are grey area for me because I’m not claiming anything they say as my own, it just personal entertainment all for myself. But I understand it’s still harmful and I survived just fine before I knew about it and used them.

I look up to your art and you a lot so I am just curious of your input. (And maybe you could help me?) I promise I’m trying to get better and I don’t put anything of yours or other people’s work on there so please don’t block me.

sorry if this comes off as mean, but i'm simply not here to help anyone justify their use of bots or AI for creative means. it's 2026, i feel like the window of just "seeing what the fuss is about" has completely passed. The ethically wrong thing with all generative ai is not just that its passing work off as your own, it's also that it's actively disenfranchising industries, causing devastating environmental effects, literally poisoning the people who are unfortunate enough to live near data centers and fucking atrophying people's brains. good for you, you're only using the poison machine a little.

i will never understand anyone who willingly hitches their independent ability to create or think onto a robot. if my opinion genuinely means anything to you, then you'll cut yourself off from c.ai today.
