I’m VERY excited to show you the back cover of Speak Now (my version) including the vault tracks and collaborations with Hayley Williams from Paramore and Fall Out Boy. Since Speak Now was all about my songwriting, I decided to go to the artists who I feel influenced me most powerfully as a lyricist at that time and ask them to sing on the album. Let me set the scene: I’m a healthcare worker at an urgent care. Seeing patients with Coronavirus all day long. Reusing the same PPE everyday. My employer says that every employee will be given two weeks paid leave if he/she has to be quarantined. I start having symptoms and have to be quarantined. Oh...what is that? I have to take the time off unpaid??? What about the paid leave? Oh the money for that has magically disappeared? Great. Thanks. Now I don’t have the money to pay my bills. I feel really supported right now. Oh but you gave me a sign to put in my yard so it’s ok.

I’m a healthcare worker. I am a certified medical assistant at an immediate care. Literally on the front lines of this virus. And I have a compromised immune system. I wouldn’t feel so in danger if we had proper PPE to protect us. Due to the shortage, we are having to reuse the same N95 mask over and over by just wiping it down with a disinfectant wipe in between patients. Having to inhale all the fumes of the wipe doesn’t make me feel better. We also don’t have proper gowns to wear to protect our clothes so we are wearing patient gowns over our clothes and praying that works. Please pray for us healthcare workers and for our safety during this. We matter too. We are just doing what God called us to do, help people. That doesn’t mean our lives are any less valuable.

Looking at the order of the tracklist made me realize that Taylor is telling the true story of love— the one no fairytale ever tells. Real love goes back and forth, it ebbs and flows. There are times of pure adoration, small fights and big, times when you look into the future and times when you reflect on where it started.

Love is not linear, and I think Taylor does an amazing job of illustrating that concept.
