“I found in on the ‘Seventeen Cutest Nicknames for a Grandpa’” Hugo beamed up with his mouth full of the tart. “Only Grannny’s best treats!” he mused and took a second fork before he sat at the table across from Ron, handing him the fork. “There, I’ll even share because you and Mum raised me so well!”

“More like Seventeen Most Annoying Nicknames for Grandpa.” Ron said, throwing his hands up slightly, “I mean, Grandpa is bad enough, adding a silly little nickname is like salt in the wound.” He took the fork and winked at Hugo, eating the morsel on the end of it. “Yeah, remind me to thank her later. Now, what can I do for you at this fine hour?”

“Hey, Gramps!” Hugo greeted his father with a wild grin on his face as he headed straight for Ron and Hermione’s fridge. He knew that Ron still had slight difficulties with getting used to his new status and oh boy, was he going to milk it. “Boom-Pa?” he mused in thought as he took a bite of a treacle tart. “I know! Paw-Paw!”

Ron barely raised an eyebrow as Hugo made a b-line for his fridge. He peered at him from over his coffee casually. “Oh, hey Hugo. What snacks are you robbing from me today?” He looked at him dumbfounded. “Boom-pa? What the hell is a Boom-pa?”

Marcie looked visibly relieved to know that he hasn’t been standing there for a long period of time. “Oh good, that wouldn’t earn me many brownie points,” she chuckled and unlocked the door. “Oh, the car’s electric,” Marcie shrugged as they made their way inside and upstairs to the nursery. “Apparently it’s popular with the muggles. My dad used to do the same, too, and it worked like a charm every time,” she smiled at the man before putting the baby in his crib and turned the baby cam on. 

“Do you want some tea?” Marcie asked as they went back downstairs. “I’m not exactly sure when Reese will be back, if you wanted to talk to him or anything,” she tilted her head to the side.

He shook his head, “Oh please, you don’t need to be worried about brownie points in our family.” He raised an eyebrow, “Oh, how fancy. I hear electric cars are pretty expensive... You’ll need to explain to my dad how that all works - Hermione can only do so much explaining.” He followed Marcie out of the twin’s room and nodded, “Sure, yeah. As long as you don’t try to read the leaves or anything,” He shrugged, “I don’t mind, I honestly wanted to come and see you. I feel like we haven’t - you know - bonded yet or anything. Is that weird to say?”

“I mean, Iris calls Uncle Harry pop-pop. Is that much better?” He smirked and sat on the arm of one of the chairs, looking down at his son. “Apparently it was a big mess. Me and Marcie were out and we hid her phone so she’d actually relax. Hugo called Teddy because he thought he was stuck.” Reese shook his head and looked up at him. “No idea why I thought it would be a good idea to leave them with him.”

He readjusted the baby in his arms. “How have things been here? I guess I should take them to visit Gran soon, huh.”

Ron wrinkled his nose. “Oh yeah, that’s right. No, I don’t think that’s at all better. It’s all so bad. Curse you kids for having babies when we are oh so young.” He smiled. “I’m kidding. Obviously I will find a cooler name than your Uncle Harry.” He raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, interesting idea to let Hugo babysit rather than your old man. I love your brother very dearly, but responsibility has never been his strong suit...”

He nodded, “Your Gran would love that and if it doesn’t happen soon, she’s going to fuss at me. So save your old man some pain and take ‘em to see her, please.” He shrugged, “Things went just fine here, like I said I’m a pro. Had three chances to perfect the whole baby thing.” He sat down on the couch, “How was work? What did they need you for?”

“Oh Merlin, have you been here for a long time?” Marcie asked in a whisper upon seeing her boyfriend’s father standing on the porch, as she gently closed the car’s door. “Sorry, I didn’t take my phone with me and apparently they’ll fall asleep only when we drive them around the neighbourhood for an hour,” she explained with a sheepish smile and took one of the car seats out. “Would you mind getting the other one?”

Ron turned his attention towards Marcie, who he was surprised to see getting out of the car and not coming from the door. “Oh, no... well maybe a few minutes. I got a call from work just as I was about to knock on the door, actually.” He furrowed his eyebrows, “Oh? That doesn’t seem very fuel-efficient... I mean if that thing even runs on fuel.” He hurried to the other side of the car and unbuckled his grandson, lifting him out of the car. He whispered to avoid waking the twins up, “Let’s get these guys to bed before they decide to wake up and start screaming.”

He snorted as he waked in, looking at his dad. “You could just bribe them when they’re older to call you something else to make you sound younger like Uncle Harry did.” Reese took the baby Ron handed him and smiled. “Thank you. I thought I had today off, but they called me in for an emergency. Were they okay?” He nodded at the one in his arms. “He apparently has Marcie’s gift and changed himself into a teddy bear while Hugo was babysitting.”

“Maybe I will do that, but every name I can think of is something bloody lame.” He shook his head, “What am I supposed to be called, gramps? Peepaw? Peepums?” He cringed, “All bad.” He nodded, “Oh yeah, they were fine. Got a little fussy at one point, but your old man’s a pro and got em calmed down really quickly.” He snorted, “Yeah, I thought that would happen. No, nothing too crazy today, but hopefully I will get to see something fun soon.”

Ron sighed dramatically when he noticed that his son had arrived home. “Oh Merlin, boys, look at that.” he said, “You’re dad’s home.” He ruffled one of the twin’s hair, “That means it’s time for bed, but don’t blame me - Grandpa doesn’t make the rules.” He visibly cringed, “Grandpa... now I sound so old,” He picked one of the boys up and handed him to Reese, “And it’s all your fault.”

He laughed and nodded, “I fully expect her to.” Reese looked at his father and shrugged, “So, I know you guys like her.” He paused for a moment, “What would you say if I said we were going into the starting a family route?” 

“Well good.” He smirked, but the look was whipped off his face quickly in place of a more serious expression. He raised an eyebrow, “I would say that’s lovely, and I fully respect your decision to procreate, but exactly how long are you...” He waved a hand. “Ales, apparate me to somewhere that sells ales.”

“Ten galleons and my lips are sealed,” Hugo said with a smirk, even though he was definitely joking and not going to say anything anyway. “Nah, I’m good,” he shook his head and took a sip of his water. “I have practice in an hour, it’ll end badly if I eat more,” he chuckled.

“Oi! I’m not going to be bribed by my own son!” Ron said, “I’ll buy you your own pie and call it off.” shaking his head as he folded his arms over his chest. He raised an eyebrow, “Wait - eat more? What else have you eaten from my fridge, you little gremlin?”

“And here I half expected you to tell you Mum sent you to make sure I came over for Christmas even though it’s clear she loves my girlfriend more than she loves me,” he teased, nodding as he walked out to lock his office door. Reese paused and looked back at his father, “So, do you want the ales in you before I tell you, or….?”

He raised an eyebrow, “Your mum loves you and Marcie, but more so you, you are her son, you know. However, in a fight I promise you she will take Marcie’s side. I also promise you I will stay way out of said fight.” He smirked, but raised an eyebrow at his son on the last comment, then turned back and nodded, walking out of the building. “Yeah, better wait on those ales.”

Hugo only rolled his eyes as he put the said treacle tart, or well, what was left of it, back into the fridge. “I am a kid. Your kid, specifically, Dad,” he mused and closed the fridge and moved to grab himself a glass of water. “But it’s okay, I’ll just go visit Gran, I’m sure she’d love to hear how you’re letting your precious son starve to death,” he spoke with his usual, overdramatic flair.

“Yes I know you are my kid specifically, Hugo, or else I need to have a serious conversation with your mum.” He held a serious face for a moment before shaking his head, “Kidding, kidding. Don’t tell her I said that, kay?” He folded his arms over his chest before waving Hugo on. “Well all right then, go ahead and eat it. Me and Reese will pick up more tomorrow. Don’t have to go telling your gran about all that. I’d like to survive this holiday, thanks.”

“Well, once upon a time I wanted to be a quidditch player. Made it a whole year on the school team… and as it goes, an injury ended my career.” She replied dramatically. “That’s fair. There are about a million Potter-Weasleys.”

He shook his head, “Sounds like one of my nephews, seems that tragedy gets a lot of talented players permanently on the ground. Sorry about that.” Ron nodded, “Yeah, I’m sure everyone and their mother is aware of how expansive our family is, yeah? I can barely keep track sometimes... And they’re my bleeding bloodline.”

Reese looked up at the knock on his door, mouth opened to respond, but his father didn’t give him time to reply. He laughed and shook his head, “I have plenty of minutes, Dad. I’m not really working. I just came in to drop some stuff off before the holidays.” Reese paused, “I actually wanted to tell you something, so…” He caught his father’s gaze and smiled again, “Anywhere in particular you were thinking?”

Ron paused, then nodded his head, not expecting the response his son gave him. “Oh, well good.” He gave him a sheepish grin, “To be honest, I’m not working either, I just popped in to get you for lunch.” Ron’s eyebrow quirked up for a moment before he nodded, “Right, well why don’t we go get a few sandwiches and pick up some pies for Christmas dinner... and perhaps a few ales for the time being...” Something told Ron that he might need them for whatever it is his son had to tell him.

Ron knocked on the door of his son’s office, “You got a minute, Reese? Well, multiple minutes. Lunch, actually. I wanted to take you to lunch.” He folded his arms over his chest, “And no, ‘no’ is not a viable answer, dammit, it’s the holidays.”

“The Cannons, right? I feel like I’ve heard at least one of your children talking about them. I’m a Wimbourne Wasps fan myself. Although the Arrows have had a good season.”

“You know your quidditch.” Ron said, sounding impressed, “Yes, well some of my family does actually play for various teams, so I try to remain unbiased except when watching them play.”

“I don’t know if you’re saying you want to punish an entire Quidditch team putting them in something that atrocious, or if you’re bragging about how rich you are,” she mused, her head cocked to the side. “If it’s the latter, then I have to say, I like that side of you, Weasley.”

Ron snorted, “Oh yeah, I’m loaded all right. Honestly, two prestigious Ministry jobs can’t compare to old money.” He rolled his eyes, “We’re doing well, of course. Perhaps I would like to see an entire quidditch team in Weasley garb.”

“Ha ha.” Ron said, rolling his eyes slightly, “No, we don’t have our own football team, and honestly we are more of a quidditch family.”
