When people get tattoos of my work it sets my heart alight. The first image is my painting 'The Descent', the second is Iain Morrison’s arm with ink by Sydney-based tattoo artist Sprinkles who did an amazing job translating my work onto skin.
cigsandcola.tumblr.com I love these tattoos ♡
Love this picture!
Design Philosophy
So my design philosophy i haven't really said much about..
Design philosophy is almost like an artists statement. It is a ways of showing yourself through your influences and life, and no i do not mean if you like going to the pub i mean what inspires you what your aspirations are etc!
I have actually learnt a hell of a lot through this module and really found myself within my design.
Ive found i am influenced by organic shapes and textures and that i love drama in my work.. I think this does show in my final garment..
Plan for presenting the design philosophy is to use photoshop and draw a circle out on it, then put writing and pictures into it and print!
Then I will cut around the circles and lace them together.
Now you may ask why circle?
I found a quote ages ago saying Fashion goes in circles. I think this is so true and inspiring, fashion is always changing and has a new take which is the best part!
The other reason is, (soppy kind of moment) circles go on forever there is no end.. it is infinite.
Exciting!
So since yesterday i have been able to put in the concealed zip which was a pain but i figured it out, sewn up all of the sides and SEWN UP THE HEM!
So i have finished except i want to do the rouleaux strap for the side with a point, this is just to make sure it holds up.
YIkes stress levels are rising!
This is going to be a daily blog now until i have finished this dress i have been in every working day for the last 2 weeks!!
Nuts ay!
What I've actually been doing is connecting the lining to the inside of the dress as I want the dress fully lined.
Its about half connected now and should only be a couple more days of this! Yikes!
Have actually got any photos of this part! Sorry!
Sewing bee programme has inspired my strap choice!
Hey guys!
I am making a very good amount of progress at the moment! Actually quite proud of myself! Ive run into a fair few problems but they were all minor that were easily fixed by some extra pressing and some extra sewing.
Ive tried to use as many different techniques as possible to increase my skill base for instance bagged hemmed and I will be making a rouleaux strap for the pointed side to keep it in place.
For the tunnel as i don't want things going into the dress i have wrapped it slightly and sewn it at the end.
So this stage i have decided to go home at, i am ready to go into the machine room tomorrow and just sew all the lining pieces together!
Pictures for you all!
Ready to use the final fabric!
With so much of the experimentation that went on i learnt LOADS and i do mean loads!
I knew i wanted a textured fabric so when i found the perfect fabric in the local area i was so happy!
Heres a picture of the fabric i chose , its a Silk printed Devore chiffon. (with a layer of black taffeta under to hold it!)
Mouthful right!
So i began chopping it all up trying to make sure my grain lines worked well in their positions..
Although there is no picture the chiffon was so slippery i had to sew the two layers together (chiffon and taffeta )
Then pinned together the tunnel to get the main part out the way.
The next step was to attach the top and skirt together.
So it was a very busy couple days so far will keep updating!
Draping dress progress!
Next step for me was to cut out the real pieces in calico and pin together..
After i pinned this i sewed it together and checked it against the dolly..
Then i sewed on the top to check it worked together i also drew on the front to show the centre front.
Once i was happy with this i continued on and started looking at the top of the back, when looking into the design of the back i needed to change the top again!
Then i made a pattern on the stand for the back of the dress, which meant i then had all my pieces!
Now for my project i needed to make 2 garments so im not going to lie i wanted to do something simpler in case time ran out as the dress was taking longer than expected so i drafted a pattern for a cape and cut it out so it would stand slightly proud over the shoulder to neck area which is seen in the picture.
Im very happy with how it came out and i am hoping to have a button done in the middle of the cape.
Real, Full on Progress!
I have been struggling with the concept of my skirt lately and i was flicking through some books of my and found my pattern magic book and found the perfect thing! it was exactly what i wanted!
I love this kind of tunnelled idea! Works well however it's fairly difficult to sew but once you get the hang of it it gets easier!
Here is a photo of the first toile of this design!
Exciting progress
Hello people!
Been a little while but I've been trying to get something much better to show you and well it took some time..
But here we go.. Now I've changed the top and its going to have a strap going across the back of the dress to have a exciting back!
Still haven't figured out the bugs with the bottom but hey ho! I will keep thinking!
Huge fan of gorillas, orangutans, monkeys!!!!
Im a huge fan of gorillas, orang-utans, monkeys and all that kind of family!
So naturally when i saw this my mind was blown!
Gorilla says "I've been told I'm very blunt"
Needs TLC
So I've made some progress of my dress since i last spoke to you!
Although, im still not loving the way it's translating onto fabric.. It needs more TLC
But don't worry guys... IM ON IT!
Not loving the pulled in part where theres just a lump under the fabric also i don't like the top.
Heres a few angles of a slightly changing top...
Stay tuned 8)
Draping dress and so it begins......
Since I last wrote I needed 50 designs as part of my module. This is a lot harder than you would think!
However i did it and I'm still adjusting as any/every designer is!
I couldn't pick an exact piece to make but I really liked 3 outfits, so i merged them!
I have started by draping on the stand to try and get the look I want.
As you can probably tell I'm a photo fanatic! Always taking lots of pictures!
So here are so photos of todays progress!
Inspiring and fun images!
