“n-nurse!” i panted, bursting through the infirmary door with junghoon on my back.
“j-junghoon! he… fainted!” i exclaimed, struggling to catch my breath.
“what?! junghoon!” the nurse shouted, rushing over to us.
ten minutes earlier~
“one million and one… one million and two...” i grunted, doing sit-ups while junghoon held my legs. ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ
“what do you mean, one million...you look scary just let me count for you,” junghoon said, his expression blank.
"shush...” i let out, completely winded after a mere four sit-ups. i flopped back onto the mat, gasping for air.
“tch. just do one more at least,” he said, unimpressed.
“ok… one more. i’ll do it… quickly…” i muttered, preparing myself.
let’s just get this over with.
summoning all my remaining strength, I shot up for another sit-up—and ended up colliding hard with junghoon’s forehead.
“ah!” i yelped as we both recoiled from the impact.
end of flashback~
“oh… so that’s how it happened?” the nurse asked, piecing things together. “and you carried him here on your back? wait—never mind. it looks like he was supporting himself with his legs.” she chuckled softly.
“h-huh?” i blinked, looking behind me.
junghoon was no longer on my back. he stood up and walked over to a bed, perfectly fine.
wait… i thought i was carrying him?!
“can I lie down for a bit? i still feel a little dizzy,” junghoon said, his tone casual as he addressed the nurse.
“your blood circulation might be the bigger problem here, junghoon,” the nurse replied, her eyes widening as she noticed his arms and legs turning purple from his overly tight clothes. “lay down for the rest of class.”
junghoon nodded, peeling off his jacket before lying down on the bed. meanwhile, I stood there, utterly dumbfounded.
“y/n? do you need help with anything?” the nurse asked.
“n-no, i’ll go now. sorry!” i stuttered, offering an awkward smile before turning to leave.
but before i could make my escape, i found myself walking toward junghoon.
“has your nose stopped bleeding?” i asked, looking down at him, embarrassed. “sorry for hitting you.”
“hm. my nose still hurts, and i feel dizzy. maybe putting something cool on it would help…” he trailed off, avoiding my gaze. “like… two cartons of banana milk…”
“i’ll buy them for you!” i exclaimed quickly, desperate to make up for the accident.
“…or two cartons of chocolate milk,” he added, tapping his chin as if deep in thought.
“i’ll buy that too!”
“and maybe three cartons of melon milk…”
“isn’t that a bit much?” i asked, surprised.
junghoon’s eyes darkened as he stared at me.
he looks… so scary.
“o-ok, i’ll buy it—huh?” i stopped mid-sentence when he raised a hand and brushed my bangs aside.
“what…?” i asked, startled by the sudden gesture.
“your forehead is really red. are you okay?” he asked, genuine concern in his eyes.
“i…” i hesitated.
“i’m fine. my head is pretty strong! i could even break a watermelon with my forehead. do you want to see?”

an awkward silence filled the room.
oh my god… why did I say that?
“…no thanks,” junghoon said, clearing his throat. “and just one milk is enough.”
“t-then you rest. i’ll go tell the teacher you’re okay,” i stammered, slowly backing toward the door.
with a loud slam, i shut the door behind me, leaving junghoon smirking as he pulled the blanket over himself.
“AHH, I CAN’T SLEEP!” i shouted, sitting up in bed, wide awake. the caffeine from the milk tea kept me alert and jittery.
‘did kim junghoon give me that milk tea as revenge?’ I thought bitterly, grabbing a hoodie and heading outside for a walk.
at the park, i sat on the swings, trying to tire myself out. “if i didn’t have that caffeine, i wouldn’t be up this late,” i muttered, swinging back and forth aggressively. frustrated, i pumped my legs and swung aggressively. “ugh, kim junghoon… i won’t be the only one suffering. i’ll get him the same milk tea tomorrow!”
“excuse me…” a small voice interrupted.
i looked down to see a little girl, maybe around 8 years old, staring up at me with big dark eyes.
“uh… hi?” i said, confused about why she was alone.
“can I swing with you? it looks fun!” she said with a bright smile.
“oh, sure. are you here with an adult? if you’re lost, I could—wait, what are you doing?” my eyes widened as she climbed onto the swing with me.
“ISN’T THIS FUN?!” she shouted, giggling as the swing soared higher and higher.
“AHHH!” I screamed, clutching the ropes for dear life.
“MOON BO-EUN!” a voice yelled, stopping the girl mid-swing.
i looked over to see a beautiful woman storming toward us, arms crossed.
“what are you doing here? i told you to wait for me at the elevator!”
“hmph! i wanted to go to the playground, and you wouldn’t let me!” bo-eun grumbled, pouting.<( ⸝⸝•̀ - •́⸝⸝)>
i sat there dazed, watching the scene unfold as the woman put bo-eun in a gentle headlock.
“you little—what would you have done if you got into trouble, huh?!”
“ahhh! i only rode the swing with that lady in the black hoodie!” bo-eun shouted, pointing at me.
the older sister turned to me with apologetic eyes. “i’m so sorry for my little sister. she ran off without telling me. i hope she didn’t bother you…”
“she wasn’t any trouble,” i said, smiling back. “i’m glad everything’s okay now.”
she sighed in relief. “bo-eun, apologize quickly so we can leave.”
“sorry! next time, i’ll give you an even more fun ride!” bo-eun said cheerfully, flashing me an innocent smile.
“thank you… take care!” i replied, waving as they walked away.
as they turned to leave, i hear a familiar voice call out,
“bora!”
i froze.
‘that voice…’
i turned to see jinsik walking toward them, his face brightening when he spotted me.
you might be thinking, who is kim junghoon? well, to summarize, he’s jinsik’s childhood best friend. that’s it. that’s all he is to me.
now you might be wondering again, why is our relationship like this?
it’s because, although we get along when it’s the three of us—me, jinsik, and junghoon—whenever it’s just the two of us, it becomes unbearably awkward. I mean, really awkward.
every time i hang out with jinsik, there’s about a 50% chance that junghoon is there with us. it’s fine in a group setting. but if jinsik leaves, even for a moment, the atmosphere turns into this suffocating silence that makes me want to crawl into a hole.
for example, the other day, all three of us had planned to hang out. but, of course, jinsik had to be late -_-.
'ahh, jinsik, when are you coming?' i thought, silently panicking as i stood next to junghoon.
i decided i should try making conversation so it wouldn’t be weird.
“uh… the weather’s nice today, isn’t it?” i said with a nervous smile, glancing at him.
just as I said that, it started raining.
of course! of course, that would happen at that exact moment.
i slowly turned my head away from him and just stood there like an idiot, drenched.
there’s just something about him that makes me feel so awkward. maybe it’s his serious aura. or the fact that he’s so tall and always has this unreadable expression.
“you should take off your coat,” junghoon said in his usual monotone voice, not even glancing at me.
“huh?” I blinked, confused.
“to cover us from the rain,” he clarified.
was he… serious?
reluctantly, i followed his words, taking off my coat. before i could hand it to him, he added:
“i was joking.”
i froze, staring at him as the rain soaked through my clothes.
was that a joke? did he actually think that was funny? it was so hard to tell with him. his voice is so deep and serious, and his face doesn’t give away anything. plus, there are these rumors about him from middle school—apparently, he beat people up. but are those even true? he doesn’t seem like the type to do that… right?
fast forward to the present:
“y/n, what are you staring at?” junghoon’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
i blinked and realized i’d been spacing out while looking in his direction.
“n-nothing,” i stammered, turning my head away quickly.
“really? because you’ve been staring at me for a while now,” he said, his tone just as flat as ever, though his brow furrowed slightly in confusion.
“don’t flatter yourself,” i muttered, looking at the window behind him. “i was staring at the view outside, obviously.”
i glanced back at him, and his unimpressed expression made me feel even more self-conscious.
“can you stop talking to me? I’m trying to focus,” i mumbled.
“you don’t even have your book open,” he replied, sounding half amused, half exasperated.
before he could say anything else, i grabbed his book and placed it between us, pretending to read.
i needed to find a way out of this situation. if i told Jinsik i didn’t like junghoon, he’d just keep pestering me about who i did like. i’d already described my “type” as someone tall, handsome, in the same grade, and from our school. thinking about it now, i’d basically painted myself into a corner because, annoyingly, junghoon is the only one who fits the description.
the bell rang, signaling it was time for P.E.
i grabbed my P.E. clothes from my locker, still lost in thought.
maybe i should just tell jinsik I don’t like junghoon anymore, i could say it was just a passing hallway crush. that would be the easiest way out.
suddenly, i felt a tap on my shoulder. snapping out of my thoughts, i turned around and saw jinsik grinning at me.
“y/n! did you bring your spare set of P.E. clothes? jiwoon said you had some,” he asked, leaning casually against the lockers.
“yeah, i do. why? don’t tell me you forgot yours,” i said, pulling out the extra set.
“not for me,” he said, taking the clothes from my hands. “i need to lend them to someone else.”
i raised an eyebrow but shrugged. “sure, i don’t need them right now.”
as we walked to the P.E. area, we continued chatting about random things. once i’d changed into my gear, i joined the rest of the class outside, waiting for the teacher to arrive.
out of the corner of my eye, i spotted junghoon approaching from a distance… wearing my spare P.E. clothes.
my jaw dropped.
the shirt and sweatpants looked like they were seconds away from bursting at the seams. the sleeves barely reached his forearms, and his wrists were already turning purple.
“what… kind of fit is that?” I said, horrified.
“oh,” jinsik said, laughing awkwardly, “junghoon left his clothes at my place, and i forgot to bring them. i didn’t realize your spares would be that small on him...”
“you think?” I hissed, still staring in disbelief.
“alright, class!” the P.E. teacher shouted after blowing his whistle to get everyone’s attention. “today, we’re working on sit-ups. do them for about 20 minutes, and then i’ll give you some free time!”
I sighed, already dreading the burn in my stomach.
as everyone started moving to find their partners, i glanced around and spotted junghoon walking away with the teacher. my eyes lingered on his broad back as he disappeared toward the equipment area.
“y/n, are you coming?” jinsik’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
i blinked, realizing i’d been staring. quickly, i nodded and jogged over to join him and a few of our other friends.
“let’s partner up,” jinsik said, already kneeling on the mat. i held his legs down while he started his sit-ups, moving up and down with practiced ease.
as he worked through the exercise, i hesitated before speaking. “hey, jinsik…”
he hummed in response, his eyes meeting mine briefly as he continued his reps.
“so, uh… are those rumors true? about junghoon?”
that got his attention. he stopped mid-sit-up and tilted his head at me, confused. “what rumors?”
“you know...” i said awkwardly, glancing around to make sure no one else was listening. “the ones about him getting into fights back in middle school.”
“wait, there’s a rumor like that?” he asked, blinking.
“yeah! it was actually kind of a hot topic...even i heard about it” i replied.
“me too,” jiwoon chimed in, scooting closer to join the conversation. “that’s why i’m kind of scared to talk to him sometimes.”
“same!” yujun, jinsik's friend added, leaning in with a curious look.
jinsik stared at us for a moment, clearly baffled. then he let out a short laugh. “you guys believe that stuff? that’s impossible. when junghoon was in middle school, he was in the dance club.”
I froze.
dance…?
“really?!” jiwoon, yujun, and i exclaimed in unison, all equally shocked.
“yep,” jinsik confirmed, a hint of amusement in his voice.
before we could ask for more details, the P.E. teacher’s whistle pierced through the air.
“what are you all doing? get back to your exercises! and jinsik, come here—i need your help!” the teacher called out.
“yes sir!” jinsik stood up, brushing off his pants. but before leaving, he leaned in closer to me, his voice dropping to a low whisper.
“if you’re so curious, why don’t you just ask junghoon directly?” he suggested, his lips curling into that mischievous smile of his. “it’s a perfect chance to strike up a conversation, don’t you think?”
my heart skipped a beat. he was so close i could see the faint dimple in his cheek.
“ah… yeah,” i stammered, my face heating up.
why did that make my heart flutter? he’s just… pretty. too pretty. and completely oblivious.
“kim junghoon!” jinsik called out as he started walking toward the teacher. “partner up with y/n. i have to go.”
i froze. my stomach twisted into a nervous knot as junghoon walked over.
as i waited for him, my thoughts drifted back to the girl jinsik likes—bora. what kind of person could she be? he said she’s tall, so she’s probably really pretty. snd she must have a great personality if someone like him likes her.
i felt a pang in my chest but quickly pushed it aside.
‘she’s transferring here soon,’ I thought, staring at him across the field. ‘i’ll find out what she’s like eventually… but honestly, i don’t think i want to meet her in person.’
“y/n—”
junghoon’s deep voice broke through my thoughts. he stopped mid-sentence when he noticed where my attention was. following my gaze, his eyes landed on jinsik, who was now helping the teacher carry some equipment. junghoon’s expression darkened slightly as he looked back at me.
at the beginning of my junior year, something unexpected happened—my best friend abandoned me.
“i’m going home early, i cant do this anymore!” jiwoon said as she hurriedly packed up her things.
“are you serious?! you can’t leave because of that! hold it in for me!” i whined, desperately trying to get her to stay with me for lunch.
“you know i can’t go to the bathroom in public…” she slashed an apologetic smile, as she quickly rushed out of the classroom, trying to avoid being caught by me.
“enjoy your lunch!!!~” jiwoon called out, already halfway down the hallway.
i slumped in my seat, feeling the sting of loneliness. even though it sucked, i knew i’d have to face the rest of the day on my own.
when I was left to fend for myself in the jungle called the “cafeteria,”…
“ugh, this sucks,” i muttered under my breath as i ate alone.
I should finish my food quickly and get to class… i thought to myself, grabbing a big spoonful of rice and shoveling it into my mouth.
suddenly, a voice broke through my thoughts.
“hi… is this seat taken?”
my eyes widened, and I quickly looked up to see a handsome guy from my class pointing to the empty seat in front of me. i choked on my food and hurriedly swallowed, nodding, “Yes.”
and so it began…
“i’m ham jinsik. we’re in the same class, right? what’s your name?” he asked with a charming smile.
“i’m y/n,” i replied, my heart fluttering.
from that moment on, i found myself drawn to him.
jinsik was funny, handsome, and popular. he wasn’t just kind to me, but i couldn’t help but feel that maybe... i was special in his eyes…
ever since that day, we ate lunch together almost every day, and even hung out outside of school! we sat next to each other in class… it had to be destiny. maybe, just maybe, jinsik would feel the same way about me one day.
one afternoon, as we sat together, jinsik asked me a question that made my heart race.
“y/n, do you like anyone?” he asked, his gaze full of curiosity.
my heart pounded in my chest, nearly threatening to escape.
could this be the moment where we become more than just friends…?
“huh?! oh… um, yes, i do. how did you know?”
jinsik smiled, his eyes bright with excitement.
“ah, well, i have someone i like too… i want to tell you who it is! and if you’re okay with it, maybe you could tell me who yours is?”
my cheeks flushed as i looked down, trying to suppress a smile.
“okay… who is it?” i asked, my voice almost a whisper, my heart in overdrive.
“well…” jinsik began, his face turning pink. “she’s in the same grade as us. she’s cute and pretty…”
i leaned in, eager to hear more. maybe it was me?
“her smile just… draws me in,” jinsik continued, blushing even deeper. “i can’t help but stare at her beauty. i was probably obvious, but…”
i tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, my body tilting slightly towards him.
“jinsik… i—”
“she’s also tall, and her hair is very long…” jinsik added, continuing to describe someone who was not me.
i turned away, my smile faltering as reality set in.
“her name is moon bora, and i’ve liked her since middle school. She’s transferring to our school soon…”
i stared blankly ahead as my thoughts spiraled.

it was way too late to lie about my crush, but if i told him the truth, it would make our friendship awkward… and i don’t want that.

i have to be as vague as possible so he doesn’t suspect anything.
“uh… does he go to our school? is he in the same grade as us?” jinsik continued, probing for more details.
“ah… maybe?” i answered nervously, my palms starting to sweat.
“ah, i think i got it!” jinsik exclaimed, pointing a finger triumphantly into the air. (🤓☝️)
what!? already? even i don’t know who it is…
just as i was about to respond, the bell rang, signaling that lunch was over.
“oh! there’s the bell—let’s go to class!” he said, grabbing my arm and pulling me toward the classroom.
i guess that went well… it’s probably better for him not to know that he’s the one i like. that way, it won’t be awkward between us, right?
when we got to class, jinsik mentioned he needed to use the bathroom. i sat down at my desk and began gathering my materials for math class.
“geez, what’s taking him so long?” i muttered to myself, absentmindedly scribbling in my notebook.
suddenly, i felt someone sit down next to me. my brow furrowed as i turned to find that the person next to me was NOT jinsik. i looked back, confused, and saw him sitting two rows behind me. he caught my gaze and waved, flashing his signature toothy smile.
“y/n! i think i know how to help you~!” he whispered, giving me a thumbs-up.
is he serious…

"tch never mind then!” you push him away playfully and sit back down on the couch.

“fine... only because i missed you.” you push him down so he's laying on the couch and rest your head on his chest.
yechan giggles and quickly wraps his arms around you.
“you know, i think i'm starting to like this side of you,” he said, smiling down at you.
you hum and hug him tighter.
“get used to it” you said .
yechan chuckled and kissed your forehead. whatever the future held, he knew that he couldn't wait to spend more moments like this with you.
you and hunter were spending a lazy afternoon together, lounging on the couch in his cozy living room. you started animatedly sharing stories from your day, eyes sparkling with excitement as you spoke. hunter just listens with adoration, smiling at the way your words flowed effortlessly and the passion that shone through in everything you said.
