Reblog to put one of these in your mutuals’ pocket when they’re not looking
And about the AI opt-out setting Tumblr will deploy tomorrow, I’ll just let you with the words of the person in charge of the heist:
Andrew Spittle, Automattic’s head of AI replied: “We will notify existing partners on a regular basis about anyone who’s opted out since the last time we provided a list. […] I believe partners will honor this based on our conversations with them to this point.”
So Tumblr will notify openAi and Midjourney that you wish your posts to not be used and it’s entirely up to them to comply or not. And as we know, we are talking about some of the less ethical companies on the internet (which honestly is kind of a feat), so that cute little setting will most than probably do nothing and less.
“We shall send them a list,” said the ostensible tech company after pinky-swearing with companies known to cross every ethical line they find for funsies.
Everyone should still opt out anyway. Also this is a lawsuit in the making.

oh he 100% doesnt know what year it is
i am not happy with our choices this election. But you should know that the reason he's the first president to "refuse" a cognitive test is because one isn't included in the presidential physical exam in the first place.
There was a petition of doctors who wanted Trump's cognitive function tested during his physical exam, and everybody involved on the republican side said no, and then Trump himself actually insisted he did take one in a fit of ego. He was, as far as i can tell, the first president to ever take one while in office.
At his request for the cognitive testing, Trump's doctor administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment which is like 5 questions and has not been proven to be an accurate test of much at all. It's a lot like when you hit your head and they ask you the date and your name and stuff -- answering correctly in no way means you don't have a head injury or concussion or whatever, it's just a couple of first step questions. Then Trump said a lot of lies and bullshit about his "cognitive test"
Now republicans and right leaning publications are spreading shit like this. Biden didn't "refuse" a cognitive test, his aides confirmed that, as usual, a cognitive test is not included during the president's doctor visit.
again, i think our choices are shit this election, i don't like how old Biden is, and i think the way our first-past-the-poll voting system automatically results in an extremist two party system fronting candidates that the majority of the country doesn't like is some fucked up bullshit
but our house is on fire and one candidate is a bucket of water that won't help much and the other is a bucket of gasoline, and, y'know, angry as i am about it all i am still going to vote for the bucket of water while we look for other solutions
Don't let them trick you into letting gasoline get thrown on this fire please
At this point I’m not even posting this for politics reasons, I’m posting it because my GOD you gullible bitches need to learn how extremely basic propaganda works. Jesus christ.
So do we wipe our blogs or what?
Internal documents obtained by 404 Media show that Tumblr staff compiled users' data as part of a deal with Midjourney and OpenAI.
Tumblr is doing some stupid AI shit so go to blog settings > Visibility > Prevent third-party sharing.
This should be opt in, not opt out. They can fuck right off.
Just to reblogging again because I found it but you have to go into the blog settings not just the settings that show on the left hand side. You have to opt out for each of your blogs if you have more than one which also just fucking sucks.
thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird
Guess how many people contact us regularly to ASK for us to have an algorithm, go ahead. Because it's many. And I always take a little bit of enjoyment in explaining that no, we're not going to build a system to recommend fics to you based on your kudos, because for one thing that would be extra work, and for another thing that would require us to be tracking and using a lot more of your data than we want to. We actually do not want to monitor that people who liked Fic A also liked Fic B, or that people who like the tag "butt plugs" might also enjoy the tag "anal fisting", or whatever other nonsense seems to be the expectation these days. I already know enough (more than I'd love, in a perfect world!) about people's reading habits, and I don't want to have that knowledge deployed via algorithms on the Archive just because someone really wants an automated conveyer belt of content being streamed directly into their feed based on us extrapolating from their most commonly used tags or their most frequently visited works or whatever.
(I also do not want to imagine how many people would contact us to yell at us the second they got a 'bad' recommended fic. "I can't believe that you recommended this to me, you monsters!")
Anyway here's my favourite sentence to include in my answers: "We hope instead that users will take control of their own experience using the Archive, and choose for themselves what works they wish to view or not view." Apparently a novel view in this day and age.
i love that homestuck appears like it's dead to an outside perspective, but the moment it's mentioned somewhere big, or it's a special day, suddenly it's trending all over tumblr and twitter. it's like thinking a wasp nest is dead and hitting it with a stick.

According to this article, they're discussing an opt-out model of harvesting data, which is definitively worse than an opt-in model (because a lot of people are not going to go through the logistical hurdles to avoid their stuff getting stolen) and very much a bandaid on a open wound.
Needless to say, everyone should be screaming about this to @staff because the more friction the better, and backing everything up if they need to shut shit down rather than have their work be "legally" stolen by a bunch of Silicon Valley vultures who are all going to lose their shirts in a couple years.
Not exactly sure what Plan B I'm going to go with yet, but needless to say my interest in getting an independently hosted wordpress.org blog (because that's distinct from wordpress.com) and/or checking out Squarespace or the like has just gone way up.
Go to the contact staff page and click the feedback option on the pull-down menu. Let’s flood them with feedback on how much we are against this.
I've checked the settings on my blog and you can already opt out (see below). This is blog specific, and sideblogs have to be opted out too.
I know I don't normally reblog this stuff, but the whole reason I came to tumblr was to follow some artists that I like, and I want to do my bit to protect them.
Please make sure you opt out of third party sharing if you don't want Midjourney using your posts (and other people's posts that you might reblog) to train their AI.
I will also be taking steps to poison any images I post henceforth, and am now officially in the market for an alternate platform if any of you have any proposals.
They are already selling data to midjourney, and it's very likely your work is already being used to train their models because you have to OPT OUT of this, not opt in. Very scummy of them to roll this out unannounced.
Account Settings -> Visibility to find the setting on mobile
They also quickly put out a long “tumblr is dedicated to protecting the data of its users blah blah blah” post. Then why isn’t the setting to opt out turned on by default then hm???
(It’s because nobody would turn it off obviously but still. Ultra scummy)
YO. IT'S IN YOUR INDIVIDUAL BLOG SETTINGS, RIGHT HERE.

I have submitted feedback to the help desk that states if they go through with their AI partnership, I will delete my Tumblr.
It might be good for y'all to do the same if you share original material.
It won't solve the problem of reblogs, which you cannot delete, but it's something.
Before everyone deletes there blogs you can opt out.
