idk at what point in the writing of king of attolia megan whalen turner was like. actually i should write almost the entire book from the pov of a guard that doesnt know what the fuck is going on, but it was the best point and im very grateful for it. literally unrivalled, hilarious, incredible. every single chapter costis is like. god i hate my stupid idiot king who doesnt like his wife and wants only to rule the country and can barely lift a sword and doesnt know whats going on ever and then the pov will shift for three paragraphs to someone who does know whats going on and theyre just like. Eugenides Is The Scariest And Most Capable Bitch Alive And Hes Up To Something. And He Loves His Wife.
This is a consequence that really never gets brought up, and it really should be because of how damaging it can be.
Genuinely, this is a massive problem that railroads have to deal with on a surprisingly regular basis
Brotherhood of The Orb
CS Lewis when he's got one page left to wrap up his book.
I am. Mostly through a Conspiracy of Kings
This time around, we have one prompt but two scenes! Sometimes the universe aligns and two very poignant moments in a very…unorthodox relationship (with a ship ton of baggage) are united by one prompt word.
This mercurial king, drawing the world into orbit around his will.
Day 10 - pattern
She stepped down from the dais to stand before Eugenides. He didn’t look much worried about his possible fate. He seemed more interested in the pattern inlaid in gold on the marble tiles at his feet. She waited, and he slowly lifted his head. He wasn’t unconcerned about his fate. He was frightened of dying and more frightened of what might come to him before he died, but the pain in his head made it hard for him to think what he might say to save himself.
- Megan Whalen Turner, The Queen of Attolia
The queen was several inches taller than Eugenides, and he leaned back to counter her spin. To those watching, it didn’t seem possible that he could succeed, but with one hand, and no visible effort, he defied the laws of the natural world. Phresine, the queen’s senior attendant, watched them from behind the throne as her queen danced like a flame in the wind, and the mercurial king like the weight at the center of the earth. Faster and faster they moved, never faltering, until the music shrilled at an impossible tempo and the pattern gave way to a long spin, each dancer reaching in with one hand and out with the other, holding tight lest they fall away from each other, until the music stopped abruptly and the dance ended.

The phasing out of Divine Intervention in stories is making for way too many huge and incomprehensible coincidences to move plots forward. Like, you're telling me these two complete strangers with surprising connections that will be integral to saving the world just stumble upon each other in the market by pure happenstance?? Unrealistic. What are the odds. Random chance would almost never. But two pairs of complete strangers who include maybe the only secretly intelligent horses in the country being forced to meet because lion-Jesus sneakily corralled them together in the dead of night? Sensible. Purposeful. Poetic. Chef's kiss.
I know this is about Narnia, but I’m reading through Agatha Christie’s bibliography, and she literally has Poirot say multiple times that the Good Lord is the reason why he crosses paths with the right people at the right time he needs to in order to solve a case.
This is from one of the greatest mystery writers of all times. She may have one character say “what a lucky coincidence” but then she’ll have her genius detective say “nope. God wants justice. That’s why we met.”
And it works.

I need you to know that my new head cannon is that Irene sings this lullaby to her babies 💕
i highly recommend rereading books, really hits the spot
i want a house with a spare room so my friends and family can stay over. so i can say "oh it's too late to drive home, why don't you stay the night?" i want paintings and photos of the people i love on the wall. i want cats on my bed and on my couch and on my lap. i want my home to be cozy and warm and sunny and full of love. there will be no angry men in my house. i want bright colours and wooden floors and plants in the bathroom. i want to grow my own herbs and have a view of the garden out the kitchen window. i want a fireplace and gauzy curtains. i want mirrors with photos stuck in the edges. i want rooms and rooms of books and shelves of trinkets i've been given or picked up on my travels. i want to hear the birds in the morning and drink coffee on the back deck. i want candles and vintage crockery and lacy tablecloths. i want roses on the windowsill. i want a veranda to host lunches with my neighbours. i want lamps that are different colours and bright carpets and a grand piano. i want a wooden bedframe and the perfect mattress and a quilt i made myself. i want a capsule wardrobe and thrifted shoes by the door. i want a brass knocker in the shape of a sun and a vintage kettle. i want a couch on the porch and wallabies in the backyard. i want a house full of love and warmth and no anger.
I love when the Disney princesses are just hanging out together.

If a girl is to do the same superman thing where he takes off his disguise, we just look pervy. Not the same effect
First of all: bullshit.
Secondly: If you are not doing the Linda Carter spin, then you’re doing it wrong.

But seriously, I think I love you.

Sorry friend, thatseanguyblogs called dibs first. ;)
By the way, folks… We’re super engaged. Just fyi. :P
Well, we never got around to making a wedding gif, but still super-married and loving it. Happy Valentine’s Day!
“let’s run away together” trope fucks me up bc it’s almost always doomed. but what if it’s not this time.
fairytales which tell you to be both kind and clever fairytales that say to be kind is to be clever and to be clever is to be kind fairytales that say the cleverest thing you can ever do is choose kindness and that cruelty or thoughtlessness are always foolish but not kindness never kindness
you bring oil for the gate and food for the dog and clean out the oven and bake bread in it and the oven will hide you and the dog will not betray you and the gate will stay open for you and close on your pursuers, to be clever is just to know that if you are good in a world made of rules, goodness will be returned to you.
In [fairy tales], power is rarely the right tool for survival anyway. Rather the powerless thrive on alliances, often in the form of reciprocated acts of kindness —from beehives that were not raided, birds that were not killed but set free or fed, old women who were saluted with respect. Kindness sown among the meek is harvested in crisis.
