Working Typewriters

When I was 19, I finished my first novel on a typewriter because it didn't have as much distractions as computers. That got out of hand, and now I am helping people all over the world to get beautiful typewriters of their own to finish those future best sellers.

Once this was the home of a small but proud lord, overseeing his little town from the windows of his manor. But ten years ago this manor burned down and ever since then no one has set foot here. Gold is rumored to be hidden on the island by the townsfolk, but the lord, who still lives there, will tell everyone that there is nothing to find, and never to set foot on that cursed place. —– Here is a map of a haunted manor on a small island. If you want there are some high resolution versions available (for free!) on our patreon and I also wrote some rough ideas down on how to run a very memorable encounter with the ghost of this island. Here you can find a pdf to that encounter. I tried to keep it just one page to keep it simple, while still giving some fun ideas. If you ever use this map in your session, please let us know. It’d make me so happy to know that people are having fun with something that we made. —-

All new typewriters are finally in. https://www.etsy.com/listing/478806665/ This is the ultra portable Gossen Tippa. Even smaller than the already very small Hermes Deluxe. A wonderful typewriter to write with and one that is really quite easy to take with you on travels.

Good day. I'm just wondering, how do you remove/clean up a dirty platen full of white dried up wipe-out everywhere? I tried denatured alcohol but it doesnt seem to come off.

Personally I use a very very very fine sandpaper to revitalize an old or dirty platen. It gives it that brand new look and better grip.Hope that helps.

Hey - just found your blog, and it's wonderful. I don't know if anyone's asked you this before, but where do you find the ribbons / cassettes for all these machines?

Hey, I think someone asked it before, but that’s alright.Personally I get my ribbons from eBay. I’ve got a guy who sells me 100 ribbons at the time every few months. There are a few good people in the US as well. So just look on eBay and you’ll find ribbons.

What do you use for storage of typewriters?

Only one way to easily store typewriters. Lots and lots of shelves :)This is when I started out. Now I’ve got 7 of these instead of just those 2 :)

Hi there, I am a Dutch girl who uses a typewriter in order to make drawings. I am planning on travelling to Asia and I would love to bring a typewriter with me so that I can create drawings along the way. So now my question: what would be the lightest/smallest typewriter ever? Thanks in advance for considering my question!

Hey, that’s awesome. There are a few really cool typewriter artists out there. I’ve never had the patience for it.The lightest and smallest typewriter is probably the Hermes Baby. There are a few others like the Gossen Tippa and the Corona 3 and the Rooy typewriter, but all of those are not as common and a lot more expensive.So, look for an old fashioned (they are dark green) Hermes Baby.Hope that helps :D

The Remington Noiseless typewriter. Of course, this machine is by no means noiseless, but it’s a lot quieter than the other typewriters that I own. A really beautiful machine that is loved by most collectors.

This is the laptop among typewriters. It’s super small since you can just fold it up and put it in its tiny case. A Corona 3.

One of the holy grails of typewriter collecting. A Blue Olivetti Valentine. This is the rarest typewriter I’ve ever had my hands on. In the end, I personally went and delivered it to the Design Museum in London who purchased it from me.

A Monarch Pioneer, both in the travel option and in the writing option. All of the type-arms reach upward when you pull a lever and it looks quite cool. A rare machine made in the 1930′s to appeal to children.

The Groma Kolibri (Hummingbird) typewriter. One of the smallest typewriters ever made. Dense solid mechanics on the inside and a beautiful metal exterior on the outside.

One of my favorite models. The Royal Portable P. Sadly, it’s very rare in The Netherland (most of them are in the US). So I am incredibly happy to be able to add this machine to my collection :)
