Malls Across 80s America by Michael Galinsky
Cinderella (1950) dir. Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske
I wrote this 3 years ago and I never posted it but damn I was (and am) passionate.
I’ve been vegan for almost a year now and it has been an incredible life changer for me. Today, I got a sandwich and it had a vegan chicken salad on it and the chicken tasted so real that I got really freaked out and my co-worker just said “....you’re not going to die.”
Not consuming animal products has just become so natural to me and has made me feel more connected to nature and my body than I ever have before in my life. So, it takes me time to comprehend that most people (including myself) are brainwashed from birth to believe that EATING ANOTHER LIVING SENTIENT BEING IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. Supporting the largest form of environmental destruction, the number one cause of global warming FAR surpassing any other industry, fueling the brutal cruelty treatment of farm animals is totally normal for people. Once you take meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, out of their pretty packages and realize what they truly are and think about it... Yeah it’s not killing me, but it killed the bird. And millions of other birds. And the grain it took to feed those birds made thousands of acres of forest be destroyed. And the drugs those birds were pumped with to grow quicker for your convenience caused the birds to develop tumors and growths. And the drugs that pump the chicken full of toxic chemicals lead to cancers when you eat it but it doesn’t matter anyways if it’s “GMO free” or “Organic” because the human body has been proven to not be able to properly digest animal protein which causes disease in your body anyways. And the farmers that raise the birds have to toss the male chicks into a grater for your fertilizer because they can’t provide more birds or eggs (which are literally chicken menstruation) And the beaks of those birds chicks are cut off with a heat blade so they don’t peck each other alive for being kept in such small places. And the small spaces they are kept in (EVEN “”””“FREE RANGE””””’ SPACES) cause the birds to be aggressive and kill each other fighting over food. And the run off from these spaces leak into local water sources contaminating drinking water for entire cities. And if those farmers demand higher wages from their customers, they will pull out because someone else will do it cheaper. And when they pull out that farmer is left completely broken because it’s all they had to opportunity to do.
So you tell me, is your chicken worth lives lost, chemical contamination, disease, livelihoods destroyed, environmental destruction, heart disease, blood disease, cancer, triple bypass surgery? Just because you “Don’t want to watch those documentaries because you know they’re bad.”
What’s the difference between a puppy and a piglet? What’s the difference between a cow and a cat? What’s the difference between a turtle and a fish?
Your perspective.
Would you eat organic cat? Would you eat GMO free dog? Generally the answer is no because did the animal die for purely your pleasure and enjoyment? YES.
I’m fine if you want to eat meat. But please don’t act like vegans are some trendy annoyance.
