The holidays were always an irritating time. While he was certainly no Grinch and enjoyed the concept of Christmas and gift giving and spending time with others, especially in the more westernized version of celebration; he couldn’t help but to feel mild disgust to the idea of how many people got together. It was a homey thing, a wonderful idea from one perspective, but in another; he simply despised it and wanted nothing more than to watch them all burn at the very hands of their own fires. Jealousy was a thick emotion and he didn’t often feel it, but being so alone and isolated from others, it was at the pit of his stomach as he listened to them all find things to make them happy. 

“How tragic. If only something horrible would happen to make this a little more interesting.”

It was the same song, the same song Minato would always listen to. Whether it was something to calm him down, or something to pump him up, this was Minato’s favorite song. He had other types of music on his MP3, but somehow his fingers always managed to click on this song. Sometimes he would even hum to it! But today Minato just had the song on in the background as he walked around town. It would have been a regular walk…

Until a curious man pressed his ear against Minato’s headphones. Minato stopped in place, losing his fast walking pace. What was this peculiar man trying to accomplish? Did he want Minato’s attention? Or was he just trying to cause trouble? He couldn’t be sure, but Minato thought it best to make sure the man wasn’t just some local maniac.

“Do you… Want to listen?” He removed his clip-on headphones for a moment, offering the one the odd man had not touched with his ear. “The song is really good.” 

And so, he rudely captured the attention of the other. Now, while most music lovers would glare at him, pull themselves away and demand that he get out of their space, this one seemed relaxed and open to having someone interrupt their alone time. Which was perfect, exactly what he wanted. The mundane and ‘normal’ was, as it was; mundane and normal. Having someone invite him into their personal space was simply put; exciting. 

“Heehee.” He starts with a playful intro, then a somewhat bashful glance off to the side. “Sorry! I just heard it when you passed. I have really good ears, they can hear practically everything and that song..I guess you could say caught my attention!” The headphone offered out is taken, gently and he holds it. “If I’m bugging you or being annoying, you can tell me! I won’t mind!”

“Sure, if you have a knack for not establishing self-care habits. Since we’re on the subject, care if I ask how much exactly can you drink during the day?”

He’s used to seeing children wander the streets of the island. What he isn’t quite accustomed to is seeing them dressed in a way this one is. She seems like she’s from a wealthy family, adorned in lacy, frilly clothing, which leaves him to question a few things. Typically those who were of greater economical standings kept their children close to them, hardly ever allowing them to branch out and explore the world. As far as he could see; she didn’t have any parents or guardians in the area, leaving him to estimate that she might have wandered off or was lost. Of course, this was just an assumption; he couldn’t really tell unless she confirmed it.

“Kind of late to be out, don’t you think.” He vocalizes himself not too far off from her, phone in hand. Though it wasn’t exactly dark outside yet, it was getting there and when the sun went down, the world lacked in friendliness to individuals who weren’t too sure how to navigate it. “You lose your parents?”

After having been walking behind the boy for the past ten minutes, he’s decided ultimately that the music he’s listening to must be interesting. Though it wasn’t in his intention to be trailing after him this long, as he only wanted to go to the store and then back to home-- he couldn’t help but to do it. To wonder why on earth he was so immersed in his music. Did he relate to it? Did he simply like the way it sounded? 

His grocery bag swinging at his side, he prompts himself to walk quicker until he’s side by side with the other. A daring smile surfaces and even more invading act is performed. He leans in to the headphone closest to him, pressing his ear right against it. It probably looked weird, felt weird to the stranger who didn’t really know him; but he was curious!
