Poet Feature- Carrie Rudzinski
"In America"
Yet another poem I personally witnessed at WoWPs this year- and one of my favorites from the weekend (Thanks buttonpoetry!).
Carrie finished 4th overall at WOWPS 2014.

I could not understand how you claimed to not care about the well-being of the planet until I saw the bruises on your cheeks shaped just like your fists. You, with the heart littered with dirty remarks and used sounds, you are where you came from, but that does not mean this place is your dumping ground. If you wait until you like yourself before you stop destroying what you see, you may find you no longer have a place to be.

Happy almost Earth Day. Treat your body & this planet kindly. You only get one of each.

I found a gem- perfect for celebrating Earth day and National Poetry Month.
You feel me?
Happy Earth Day!
Go Outside and Read!
What better way to celebrate earth day?! Go outside, find a quiet spot, and get lost in a book.
Happy Earth Day! Make your profile picture one of our magical Earth Day 2014 patches and spread the love of used books far and wide! http://powells.us/1raK4Yr
An easy way for poets to love on the earth- share books!
Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.

“To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour.” ― William Blake, Auguries of Innocence
In honor of Earth Day, I'll be posting earthy quotes, poetry, and images today. Enjoy :)
Even After All this time The Sun never says to the Earth, “You owe me.” Look What happens With a love like that, It lights the whole sky.

The Nature Of Nature Poetry: 5 Tips For Writing Your Best Nature Poems - Writer’s Relief Blog
Nature offers a world of inspiration for creative writers; that’s no surprise. But vividly capturing the essence of nature in your poetry can be elusive and frustrating. Here are some great tips for writing poems about nature that will help you stand out when you’re making submissions.

This is something I feel very strongly about and it is very important. There is too much negativity between women- too much of putting one another down. We need to stand TOGETHER. There is already enough negativity in the world, and especially since women still don’t always get all the same opportunities as men, we must SUPPORT each another. So lift other ladies up, support successes of other women, and encourage one another to accomplish all of our goals. Girl power.
Preach it!
And it takes even more balls to be a woman poet!

Poet Feature - Denice Frohman
Denice competed at WOWPS in Austin, Texas and placed 3rd overall. I hadn't been exposed to this powerful poet until I judged one of the bouts she was competing in and I instantly became a fan.
Denice is a triple threat- a poet, educator, and lyricist. She won the Women of the World Poetry Slam in 2013 (when this video was recorded) and she is currently on tour with Dominique Christina facilitating workshops around the country focused on social justice and expression (Sister Outsider Poetry).
Denice's debut album, Feels Like Home, is now available for purchase.
Stay up to date with Denice on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@denicefrohman).
Poet Feature - Melissa May
"You, big lady, were the only Disney character who ever looked like me. And while you may not have had the waist line of a princess, I’ll be goddamned if you didn’t have the swagger of a queen."
I was lucky enough to be at the Spider House for this performance. Melissa totally blew me away- her energy was phenomenal! I love how she used a familiar American staple to speak out about an important issue.
Melissa placed 7th overall in the competition- Congrats Melissa!!
