The reactions that I'm seeing from some pens fans, towards people calling out Sidney Crosby for not saying anything, is telling.
Firstly, I'm a Blackhaws fan, so my team and some of our players have a number of issues. Im aware.
My captain released a very thought provoking and self reflective statement on the BLM protests for Mr. Floyd and countless others Black lives that have been taken sensely at the hands of police, and because of that Jonathan has caught a few strays which I don't think he deserves.
A few things I've seen people say after his statement was released:
+ he's still friends with Kane
+ other shit I've never even heard of, or don't know to be true
I get it, seemingly Sidney Crosby is as squeaky clean as they come. No rape or drug allegations. Hasn't been caught using slurs, isn't dating a white supremacist or is one. Not that we know of at least.
So this whole thing made me think back to the Pens visit to the white house. The year before when President Obama was still President, Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins was front and center and all smiles.
The very next year, Sidney is asked about their visit to the white house (because NFL and NBA teams are declining their visits after Trump called Colin Kaepernick and other athletes that kneeled, "sons of bitches") that is now being occupied by the Orange Supremacist. Sidney said it's an "honor". So for it to be such an honor, why was Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins situated in the back row during that visit? Where was his bright smile like the one from the year before?
And now we're here, good guy Sidney has said NOTHING. And a lot of you are pissed.

Tom "I'm a goon" Wilson has shown up Sidney Crosby.
Andres Lee has shown up Sidney Crosby.
Auston "I harassed a Black female cop last summer" Matthews has shown up Sidney Crosby.
K'andre Miller, a young man, a baby, who had to see the word Nigg*r spammed while he was on a zoom call has shown up Sidney Crosby.
And it's killing some of you that a guy you think so highly of isn't as "woke" as you would like him to be.
So if you feel like that, think of how black hockey fans like myself are feeling right now, looking to see if their team or favorite player will give a statement or donate.
So Sidney Crosby is getting a little heat, he'll be okay and so will you, remember that. Some of us are fighting just live.
