here's ur reminder that axolotl is NOT pronounced like "ak-suh-laa-tl" (or lot-ul), it is in fact a nahuatl word (that most commonly translates to "water dog" actually, very cute!) and is pronounced "ah-SHOW-lowtch" !!!!
i think abt this every time i see a post abt axolotls coz i just know there r so many ppl mispronouncing it and the thought bothers me. if ppl, esp white ppl, reblogged this to spread the word to those who may not be aware, i'd be very grateful. thank u!!
This is *so* true bestie. Loan words are fake. Everyone should pronounce stuff how *you* want. While weâre at it, letâs go back to thee and thou
so basically im cursed to remain fat forever? jesus christ i did not need to hear that today.
There is no permanent and safe way to intentionally lose weight. This is true. Â
And that means that if you want to truly live a fulfilling and meaningful life, you will need to let go of the fantasy of being thin. You will need to do the difficult self-work needed to unlearn your internalized fat phobia. You may also need to learn how to eat normally without restriction and shame. All of this is difficult. But a lifetime of self-hate, restriction, repeated cycles of weight gains and weight losses, and declining health from the damage caused by under-nourishing your body is far far worse.Â
And I know you are in pain right now, so I am being gentle with you, but I need you to think about what you said in your ask, and think about who you said it to. I am fat and my life is not a cursed existence. It is never okay to say such hateful things about fat people, including yourself. Donât do it anymore.
What is the evidence supporting my conclusion that there is no permanent and safe way to intentionally lose weight?
Over fifty years of research conclusively demonstrates that virtually everyone who intentionally loses weight by manipulating their eating and exercise habits will regain the weight they lost within three to five years. And the vast majority will actually regain more weight than they lost. [sources]
In fact, the results of a 10-year study of over 275000 people revealed that the annual odds of a fat person attaining a so-called ânormalâ weight and maintaining that for five years is approximately 1 in 1000. [source]
And those very few people who do maintain a significant weight-loss for more than five years do so by engaging in unhealthy, disordered eating and exercise. Consuming just 1300 calories per day, recording everything you eat, and exercising for one hour per day is not healthy, and in another context, would be considered evidence of an eating disorder rather than behavior worth emulating. [source] [source]
âWell I lost weight so anyone can!â
Nope. One individualâs experiences do not negate 50 years of scientific research with thousands and thousands of people.
âJust change your *lifestyle* by doing blah blah blah and then anyone can lose weight!â
Nope. Any attempts to intentionally lose weight by manipulating food intake and exercise have the same result. Scientists have tried it all! The result it always the same. Weight regain.Â
(PS: As stated in my FAQ, weight loss tips and pro-dieting talk are not welcome on my posts. There are many other spaces where such talk it welcome. Post there instead.)
âActually, 1300 calories per day is totally enough!â
No. A systematic review of research using the doubly-labeled water method to assess peopleâs energy needs revealed that healthy adults over age 25 need between 2500 and 3000 kilocalories per day on average. People under the age of 25 need about 500 calories more per day than their adult counterparts. People who are bigger than average (including fat people) also need more energy than average to thrive, as do people who are very physically active. [source] [source]Â
âBuuuut the nutrition guidelines say we only need 2000 kilocalories per day!â
Those guidelines are wrong. They were developed on the basis of faulty science that used self-reports to assess peopleâs energy intake. And it turns out people habitually underestimate their energy intake by about 25%, most likely to bring their intakes in line with the perceived norms. When energy needs are assessed objectively, the results I described above emerge. [source]
Another study that is open access demonstrates similar results. [source; results in Table 4 in the row labeled âTEEâ; 1 KJ = 0.24 kcal]
Objective assessment using the doubly-labeled water method demonstrates that adult women with a BMI in the ânormalâ range require about 2400 kcal per day on average, whereas women with a BMI in the âoverweightâ range require about 2750 kcal per day on average. However, individual needs also vary by about 400 kcal in either direction depending on height, age, and activity level. So if you are a young, tall, Â fat, active women, this study suggests that you may require well over 3000 kcals per day to meet your energy needs.Â
For the Anon asking for sources to support my statement that healthy, weight stable, non-restrictive eaters regularly consume, and need, between 2500 and 3500 calories per day to support their health and well-being.
This is the dumbest shit Iâve seen in AGES. Cherry-picked stats, a deeply flawed premise, and just outright lies. I love it. What an idiot
Itâs called stealing, actually. And itâs immoral.
Idaho just passed a bill banning hormones for trans kids
yeah. (House bill 675)
Oh jesus they're banning puberty blockers? And they put it all hidden between all that other stuff THAT ISNT DONE TO TRANS CHILDREN ANYWAY
Me about two years ago: I donât really like to curse. Itâs just so vulgar and sounds unintelligent.
Me now: Just told a man who identifies as super straight that his dick was microscopic compared to his ego, feeling fuckin wonderful.
Superphobes really care so much about other peopleâs genitalia
Super Solidarity đ§Ąđ€
This is some good shit. No one should be compelled to be attracted to anyone they arenât into
You don't have to be comfortable with stealing yourself but if you're a snitch you fucking suck. You are such a fucking loser it's not even funny. Fuck you.
Dang, bro, this is pretty gross. Imagine having that kind of mindset, how do you even function?

Iâm not quite sure what most of this means but I know itâs good :)
This is exactly the worrying kind of thing Iâd not want to see reblogged on a post like this
Itâs called stealing, actually. And itâs immoral.
These are the types of âwholesomeâ messages you can find on Tumblr. See someone stealing from someone else? Ignore it. Totally makes sense.
Go ahead, everyone. You apparently have permission to walk into any store youâd like and steal yourself some lunch. Forget about the hard working shop owners trying to put food on the table for their own families.
The solution to one problem isnât creating a new problem for someone else.
Grow up, people.
Most stores now are chains owned by multi-billionaires who made their money destroying any business smaller than them and exploiting communities and their workers. If you actually care about hard working shop owners, it is your moral duty to steal everything you can from every big store you go to, because those are responsible for putting those shop owners out of business
Do you know what you do to combat big store chains?
You stop shopping there.
You donât resort to theft and becoming a criminal. Thatâs the most asinine, backwards logic Iâve ever heard. If thatâs the type of behavior you condone, that makes you a weak person with no moral backbone.
Instead of promoting criminal behavior that solves zero percent of the problem, why donât you help people become better and make stronger, more meaningful decisions? All talking like this does is weaken the fabric of our society, which is already close to unraveling completely.
You donât want things to heal, you want to keep tearing at our social foundations and make sure the problems never go away.
Again: grow up. Be a good person. Youâre a human being, you have the potential to be better than this. Stop choosing to be morally weak.
Yeah, no kidding. âMoral duty to steal all you canâ my ass.
People say transgenderism is a mental illness but I donât think thatâs correct. It and dysphoria is a symptom of other mental distress. We donât call everyone who has hallucinations âhallucinatorsââyou can have Parkinsonâs or schizophrenia or epilepsy or a number of things that all happen to cause hallucinations. That would be like calling everyone who coughs âCoughersâ instead of realizing that some have allergies, some have strep, some have a cold, the flu, bronchitis.Â
Not everyone becomes transgender for the same reason. I think itâs primarily a reaction to some kind of trauma or fear (didnât feel safe to be that gender anymore, I feel like this is a lot of f>m) or a fetishy thing/a feeling of deep shame and inadequacy in living up to the expectations of their gender (seems like a m>f thing more). That isnât near the same cause but because the symptom is the same they are lumped together. And I am sure there are other causes, parental suggestion probably being another one in younger children.
I just donât know how anyone, let alone any medical professional, could look at the problem of âthis individual hates their body and desires to be the opposite gender, to the point that they are willing to mutilate themselves to achieve only a rough approximation of the opposite genderâ and have the response âgreat letâs do that thenâ instead of âwhy does this person hate themselves and their body so much? It is unnatural to hate your body to the point of mutilation. This is a disorder which must be cured so that they no longer feel that way.âÂ
In no other mental illness that I know of do doctors negotiate with the terrorists. If you have depression and want to lay in bed for the rest of your life until everything goes to rot and ruin, the doctor doesnât say âif you say so, you know what you feel.â If you want to cut your wrists the doctor doesnât write you a referral to cut your wrists. If you are anorexic and say youâll kill yourself if the doctor doesnât let you weigh 68 pounds, he doesnât throw up his hands like âwell itâs a living 68 pound person or a dead 110 pound one!â they take steps to fix the problem. Why is this not the same for transgenderism? Is it because transgenderism is a mental illness of consumption, one that necessitates expensive elective plastic surgeries and prescription hormones? Is it because this current social climate is one in which the perversions of a few could fester into a full blown moral stance, and everyone has just been caught up in it? Is it all of it? How does anyone think about this for more than a few seconds without realizing how fucked it is?
Long but very interesting read about some of the factors at play, particularly some of the ones profiting from it
This probably wonât be popular, but itâs true
I say, from the bottom of my heart, I truly hope Amy Coney Barrett gets hit by a bus. I donât give a fuck.
This is actually, genuinely, incredibly gross. Wow.
Sometimes classics can be improved upon.

This isnât better. The original was upsetting, but that was what made it effective and memorable.
