I question my attraction alot because beauty standards can be so gross and I don't benefit from most of them. And when I do, it doesn't feel good. Like when people compliment my low weight, it's really just promoting disorderly eating and creating more stigma against fat bodies. And even though I don't make a lot of money, my hair, soft skin, make up, and clothing are things I've had the privilege to afford (or receive from very kind friends). And that also makes me question how would I be perceived if I could afford more? Race, body size, gender expression, income, and perceived health like to masquerade as measurements of beauty and that just further excludes marginalized people. It's still such a strange feeling to feel good about my body and how I look. To actually have clothes that I like. Just a year ago I felt pretty gross. And it honestly made me second guess my gender a few times. I didn't think those stories about trans people finding comfort in their skin would ever apply to me because it's been so hard finding those positive stories for trans women of color.
