You know I think the thing that bothers me about literally every jekyll and hyde adaptation/retelling i’ve ever seen/heard of is that they always make jekyll and hyde different people. like, hyde is literally a different person who may express the dark desires jekyll buries down, but who is not, himself, ACTUALLY jekyll, and jekyll has no control over him.

when in reality, in the original story, hyde was literally just an alias jekyll used when he was using the potion.  it just made him look like a different person, and that made him feel like he had the freedom to indulge in the impolite and inappropriate behavior that he always craved but didn’t indulge in for the sake of his reputation.  and eventually… i forget the actual sequence of events but I think it was basically when he was really craving shit he’d go jekyll without triggering it actively and he couldn’t stop it, and eventually couldn’t turn back from being hyde - SOLELY IN A PHYSICAL SENSE, because hyde did nothing to his mind, it just freed him from feeling like he had to behave well because his reputation wasn’t at stake if he was an asshole.

it was literally always jekyll, just jekyll with a really funky polyjuice potion that eventually came to bite him in the ass when he murdered somebody and then stopped being able to look like jekyll again, so he committed suicide rather than face the consequences for his actions.

So… yeah, it’s about the dark side of humanity or whatever, but it’s more about the dark side of privileged white dudes who think they got a free pass to do whatever they want because they made a potion that lets them look like someone else.

I remember doing homework once, asked my grandmother if she was proud of me. “Do some thing for me to be proud of.” That hurt.

That comic up there – I witnessed almost that exact scenario. Teacher wanted the kids to all pick books. One kid spots something on the shelf and gets visibly excited. Pulls it out and starts reading. Teacher sees it, snatches it off him and tells him that this is a book for 8 year olds (the kid was 15ish) and tells him to get a book more appropriate for his age. Kid slouches around the shelves for about 10 minutes, finally picks up a book at random and sits in his chair tucking the edges of each page into the binding to make that looped-page look. He didn’t read a word. He sat there and did this to his book for the remainder of the reading session:

He had been genuinely excited about the 8 year old book he’d picked up. It was a new one in a series he used to read as a younger kid. He’d been actively sitting and reading, and then he was embarrassed in front of his classmates, told off for reading a kids book, and voila. He lost all enthusiasm for reading anything else that day.

What’s worse? That kid had been hit by a car like a year and a half earlier. Severe brain trauma. Had to re-learn a lot of basic things, like how to speak and how to read.

An 8 year old book would have been perfect for him. Easy enough to read that it would have helped rebuild his confidence in his own reading ability. A book meant for 15/16 years olds? A lot harder to read than a book for 8 year olds. Especially if you’re recovering from a relatively recent brain injury.

And yeah, the teacher knew all about his brain injury, and the recovery. He just seemed go be of the opinion that the kid was 15, so he should be reading books for 15 year olds, irrespective of brain injury.

Maddie Ziegler didn’t even want to take the title role in “Music” at first, and she cried and had emotional breakdowns repeatedly when filming because she was afraid that Autistic people would think she was making fun of them.  Sia. Basically pressured her into taking the part and going through with it. So on top of everything else, the main actress was manipulated and exploited as well (especially since Maddie was 15 I think when they filmed it). Just gross all around.

I’d like to inform the masses that on March 1st, 2020 at approximately 4 in the afternoon I preformed a tik tok “life hack” on myself that claimed to remove one’s gag reflex. I did not think it would work.

It did.

It is currently March 4th, 9:54pm. My gag reflex has yet to return. At random intervals throughout the last few days I have been randomly jamming my finger into my mouth in hopes that it has returned.

It has not.

My friends (who also participated) have all had their gag reflexes returned to them (usually within 24 hours of participating). I am the only one whose gag reflex has not returned.

I worry for my future.
