Tired of stories where the author worldbuilds a whole religion only to chicken out at the last moment by making the main character a skeptic. You mean to tell me that there’s all this richness in lore and culture, but you’ve trapped me with the one person in this society who doesn’t care about it? So bland. I could meet an agnostic easily enough by walking down the street, but your story is my one chance to hear the perspective of someone who follows whatever religion you’ve contrived. You made this whole world; convince me that your character really is from there.

I think for the most part each of my MC's have a positive character arc save for I want to say two. Irene and Kenna. Though Kenna's negative character more comes from the trauma she experiences through the story. where as Irene's although is partially because of the same reason I don't think it can all be blamed on that. 🌡️ Temperature: Imagine waking up in the body of your MC. What is the first thing you would do? I couldn't decided which MC to do this for so I'll do it for all of them XD Kenna: get the hell out of the city and take my friend and her boyfriend with me XD
Irene: freak out probably because i don't know how to survive the kind of life she lives XD
Kayla: immediately suggest to Skylar that they should stay in for the night and go camping a different day
Mercife: stay in my room and make sure I don't drink any alcohol at all XD
Itiri: I honestly don't know, probably just go out and sit in the control room and look out into space.
Aaleis: i'd go through the same steps but help Aehrout pick berries so they could get back to the city as quickly as possible XD
Morgan/Leilani: same vein as Kenna, get out of the city and also suggest that we never split up

I think i have two that have more bittersweet endings to them and honestly i hate that they're ending that way but it's just what makes sense for the characters.

for this one i took from two different sections in the first chapter of The Rose In The Sand (name subject to change) since i wasn't sure which MC i should go with for this ask XD
She stood on the lowest hanging branch of one of those colossal trees, the leaves above her swaying with a light wind. She pressed her hand against the trunk to steady herself as her gaze swiveled back and forth in a very slow manner. Her attention focused on the rows of lush greenery. There was a soothing element to being so high, with a view as far as the trees allowed. Here she had time to react, to reach for her ax she had holstered on her hip at a moment’s notice.

“We. . .ran into a little trouble.” He tilted his body to get a better look at her leg. Upon seeing the gash, he stood annd walked to his box on the other side of the table. Aaleis sat in a seat across from him, waiting till he returned to his seat so she could place her foot on his knee. “If you think this bad, you should see the Saiber.”

This was a hard one for me to think about, i have a lot of characters that i know if i saw them in someone else story I'd love them, but as for my own characters it's hard to tell. I feel like Aehrout (Aaleis's friend) is going to be well liked. She's got some good moments and her personality is well rounded i would say. As for who their going to dislike (that's not among my villians/antagonist's) I feel like my character Kenna from the zombie thriller I'm writing with @theguineapigwhobearlywrites is probably going to be hard for people to like at times. She's very jaded and lashes out a lot during her healing journey. I definitely think some people will relate but others just might not like her.

This is a scene from another story i'm writing with @theguineapigwhobearlywrites it's one of my favorites from the later chapters
Kayla tensed as a now familiar hiss sounded off near her. No, she was far from any level of safety. Pulling free her weapon, she watched as the plasma caster righted itself. The newly blooded huntress raised her knife, though she knew it was useless, it gave her a feeling of safety. She charged, letting out a loud guttural cry as she came to meet the Kainde Amedha halfway. Its screech filled the halls as her next battle commenced.
I think the next one i want to mention since I haven't written it is the scene in What Happened By The Lake when Irene is saved from her ex husband. It's just this moment of her running before she hears him hit the ground. I don't want to give too many details

If Stranger Things, The Black Phone and Heathers had a love-child and it was a midwest gothic urban fantasy horror mystery story set in a fictional version of North America.
A bunch of teenagers in weird af small town in the middle of the woods find out that there's something intrinsically wrong with the place and its more than just gossipy neighbours, its that the town is cursed by fey demons and the forests haunted by the spirits of teens the Mayor's family killed.
Secrets, rumors, a town of people essentially brainwashed to love the villain and oppose anyone who stands in his/his family's way VS a ragtag team of teenagers who fucked around and found out way too much.
Homey autumn vibes: red, yellow and amber leaves in a pine wood forest, cozy old diners owned by kooky old ladies, afternoons playing shoot em' ups at the local arcade, car rides with the MCs grumpy older brother, listening to music on the roof of the house eating popcorn and studying conspiracy theories, running from trouble as the sun sets in the horizon, cozy hot chocolate mugs, etc.
Tragic ghosts with interesting stories and unique personalities that make you want to give them a hug, and who need one so bad but can't get one because they're immaterial😭
POV: The Slasher Horror movie villain is your town's adored Mayor and his cohorts.

Re-sharing this post I found on Twitter for people looking for alternatives to NaNo. I haven't tried any of these sites but they might be worth looking into.
For anyone who didn't know: NaNo basically crashed and burned last year. There were problems with the forum moderators, including/especially the mods of the youth forums. (Problems included complaints that a mod was inviting teens to her adult-kink website. It is not clear if this actually happened, but the mod was creepy and hostile in enough ways that, even without that, she should not have been moderating anything, especially a teen forum.)
As this news came out, other complaints about mods surfaced - that they'd been suppressing complaints about the site, supporting one side over others in debates, and so on. Also, the rules on the site were applied inconsistently. There were "youth-only" spaces that turned out to be "youth + adults who used to be in the youth spaces," so that the new 18+ people didn't lose contact with their friends.
(I can see the value in that. But. That wasn't written down anywhere; it was just... "we don't enforce the rules in these situations.") There was also a Christian youth forum, or thread, or something, with the expected amount of religious drama + "we're not biased or supporting one religion over others; we're just... look, these are good kids just trying to find friends online; some of them come from very restrictive households and this is their only available social space."
Um.
Anyway.
The drama reached a head and people started yelling for the Board to step in. So they did. Of course, the Board is not skilled in forum management, and NNWM had a LOT of forums, so their short-term fix was "freeze ALL the forums; open a single thread for discussion of these issues." That thread stayed open almost a month.
I saved a PDF after it ended; it's almost 300 pages long. Over 82k words.
Their final decision was "we can't moderate properly so we are shutting down all the forums. Also there are complaints about some of the the regional reps who organize the in-person meetups so we're shutting those down too."
They still intend to have a youth center, more strictly controlled so that teens can never have contact with adults other than their vetted moderators and educators. (Teens will become better authors by only talking with other teens, right?) They plan on a whole bunch of other changes that boil down to "fewer social connections online, fewer meetups, fewer fact-checking discussion resources... more ways for us to ask for money to support our writing nonprofit."
At no point will there be any repercussions for the mods who screwed up, other than "losing their jobs" (paid or not; info about that was inconsistent) which was less "we're firing you" and more "we're actually shutting down this entire feature set, so we don't need people to do it anymore."
