WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?
My laptop
—
I was, without a doubt, an internet kid. I had the whole look; pale skin and dark under eye circles. It was my most prized possession, what can I say?
My family thought I had an unhealthy addiction; thus, forcing me to attend various social outings sponsored by the school as it would get me out of the house and away from the computer. Plus, apparently, it would help me be more social.
But, it’s not that I didn’t like being social, I just liked being social on my computer.
My parents didn’t understand, though, so here I was, shoveling the snow off of some lady’s driveway as volunteer work as my peers chattered away around me.
“Annie, can you help Connor start on the next house as we finish this one up?” the teacher supervising the students asked me, pointing to the next door house.
I nodded, knowing I had no choice either way, and followed Connor, a dirty blonde, green eyed boy.
We shoveled in silence, working slowly and reluctantly.
“So, who made you come?” Connor asked, breaking the silence.
“Parents, you?”
“Same,” he responded, ending the conversation.
This, however, did not last long as Connor threw his shovel to the ground, making me look at him questioningly.
He gave me a shit-eating grin as he gathered up some snow and threw it at me, aiming for my face.
I screamed, throwing myself to the ground.
“You little…” I trailed off, retaliating with a snowball of mine.
In the distance, we heard our teacher scream at us to stop, but we didn’t care. We continued having our snowball fight, and soon, the other students were involved, leaving our teacher to tug on his hair as he tried to control us.
Connor and I cackled manically with glee, knowing we were both probably going to be assigned detention.
But we couldn’t care less. We were going to be together, making detention a little bit more bearable.
