Since anything I post here won't be a direct target towards anyone in particular.

I talk about people as a whole. So don't go thinking you're a special singled out person here.

If you think something is about you directly, then you just happened to be part of the very group of people being discussed or called out here. Which I then recommend getting help on your issue(s) if so.

Also if I need to make this known: I am queer, trans, have disabilities and am a POC. So if you think I have no rights to speak on stuff involving any of that. Know I actually do, and am allowed to speak my mind.

I would be lying if I said I didn't see this coming. They are really using his death as a justifiable push for all forms of censorship and control here in this country.

WASHINGTON—Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) invited the Chief Executive Officers of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit to testify at a full committee hearing on October 8, 2025. The hearing will examine the radicalization of online forum users, including instances of open incitement to commit politically motivated acts.

“The politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk claimed the life of a husband, father, and American patriot. In the wake of this tragedy, and amid other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that radicals have used to advance political violence. To prevent future radicalization and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear before the Oversight Committee and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes,” said Chairman Comer.

While we’re talking about censorship, I need everyone to stop playing this little amnesia game where we pretend not to remember what internet and fandom has looked like for the past 20 years. Weird and taboo porn has always existed, it used to be a LOT easier to access, and you won’t die if you look at it. Hiiii, so I said “the past 20 years” and not “20 years ago”. Of course a lot has changed in 20 years and not everyone was here the whole time. I’m specifically addressing those who have been here long enough, and SHOULD know better than to start playing into the conservative narrative that there’s this new wave of perversion that we need to protect children/victims/women from.

i do not fucking care if she wasn’t writing what you wanted out of a comic book. they are going scorched earth on her entire comic, pulling issues that were put out to be sold YESTERDAY.

i have been reading comics since i could walk and talk. i have NEVER seen them go scorched earth like this on a writer before. she is a trans woman and if you think that that didn’t impact this choice you’re either ignorant or being purposefully obtuse.

Gretchen Felker Martin's Red Hood series was cancelled after she made a joke about Charlie Kirk being shot on BlueSky. I believe it was meant to be a miniseries, but now issues that have already been solicited, ordered, and probably printed are being pulled. Like OP says, I've never seen a reaction like this before--even Warren Ellis, who was dropped by DC after being accused of sexual misconduct, was allowed to finish out the maxiseries he was writing at the time.

(There's some other context that makes this worse, such as the transmisogynistic hate campaign that had been levied against GFM since the book's announcement, but this is the long and short of it.)

I think you’re downplaying the Warren Ellis situation. There are credible sources reporting that he abused and manipulated over 100 women over his career. At least 60 of them got together in 2020 and compiled a case against him.

And what happened? He made a public apology, and they let him gracefully exit the company, finishing the series he was working on at the time.

A trans woman says some stuff on her personal social media account that certain people don’t like and they shitcan her the same day and start canceling orders for any new issues of the series she wasn’t even half done with yet.

The double standard here is visible from fucking space.

This, along with other games that feature obvious dark themes and content that most fans deny exist in it.

Also often ignore it completely to just focus on their delusional version they made up for themselves in their mind to excuse engaging with and being a fan of the content.

Really shows how some people really are, and the lengths they will go to, to engage with a clearly problematic piece of media without feeling bad about it. Though refuse to accept it or see it as it really is canonly.

first of all, "minor" is a word that has a meaning and that meaning isn't necessarily "children in the general sense." it is in fact a really specific legal term. it is a status that grants a group of vulnerable people protection by the law. so, as fake people who don't exist and therefore have zero protections by law, a fictional character cannot be a minor. a fictional character is fictional.

Also, in the sense of those real-world protection laws, sure, it makes sense to group together newborns through 18-year-olds. but doing so is genuinely completely fucking useless when talking about a narrative. "This is a story where the main character is a minor!!!!" you could be talking about Bluey you could be talking about The Catcher In The Rye you could be talking about Yellow Jackets. I don't know how else to express that story about a 7-year-old, a story about a 12-year-old, and a story about a 17-year-old are are, structurally, completely different things despite all being about "minors," and how grouping them together makes no sense. it's reductive at best and destructive at worse. Imagining sitting down and being like "oh yeah, let's look for a story about minors to recommend to minors" and you hand children's picture book No, David! to a high school senior.

what bullshit scare tactic language. "yikes, you're shipping minors" and the ship is two 17-year-olds who the narrative treats as active parts of the story who make their own decisions and have their own desires. when did we all agree to start talking like this and can we stop. just fucking tell me if a character is a child or a teenager.

Learned someone I've been sharing their takes here from X about being anti-censorship is a possible conservative who supported that fascist who's dead now?

I have no idea how to feel currently, for it has been a long wild day obviously. Though I will be reconsidering sharing their stuff here now directly, if I no longer feel comfortable to of course.
