ADA: today is officially the worst day i've had in a long time wtf

harlow shrugged at the cigarette. not his thing, but that didn’t mean he cared if others smoked. “nope,” he said, verbally. not many people could keep up with harlow, so it was nice to know that there were people that at least wanted to try. so maybe he did stupid things, but that didn’t matter. “i’ll keep that in mind. i don’t think there’s any good ones right now. yet.”
the blonde put the cigarette in her mouth, carefully lighting it up and then proceeding to take a long drag, exhaling the smoke the opposite way so it wouldn’t bother him. the chuckle that came out of her mouth was more of a huff, but the smile on her face indicated otherwise. “call me when you find a good one.” nodding towards the direction of the now extinct pencil, she looked over at him again. “what’s the homework on?”

Charlie’s eyes scanned the random pieces of mail he held in his hand, the bright change of address stickers stuck over every single one of them. It must’ve been the female’s double cups of coffee that made the thought pop into his head, causing him to mindlessly speak the words. His head popped up from the envelopes before his eyes turned over to her, his eyebrows raising as she spoke. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t even realize-” He started, his cheeks probably turning a shade of scarlet as he a grew a bit embarrassed. “I wasn’t Paying much attention to my surroundings, I guess. I’m sorry.” He told the girl, giving a soft smile. “As for the coffee, don’t worry, I won’t take your coffee from you. A girl holding two coffees for only herself must really love her coffee. I couldn’t take that away from her.”
The blonde hadn’t seen the man before and his accent only made her confirm that he’d probably moved in recently or she just wasn’t paying enough attention. Shaking her head, a few blonde strands escaped her already too messy bun and she held the cup out for him to take. “It’s okay -- I’m just exhausted and thought giving my body an extra dose of caffeine would help but I think I might just screw up my system.” She admitted, warm smile on her tired features. “Take it, it’s black with some vanilla and sugar on it,” she paused for a moment, looking at the other coffee in her hand. “I’d offer you this one if you don’t like black coffee but I’ve started it already.” She said, laughing softly. “I’m Adriana, by the way.”

reinvention. nat could get behind the sentiment of that; he’d stood on the opposing side of a mirror and not liked the angry eyes looking back before, understood that change was just a premise for survival. every day, for years now, he had been carving himself into something different with uncertain strokes of a knife, and it was painful, bloody work. he had become something natanael-shaped whereas before he had just been natanael, and he could only hope that for adriana it had been different, that she had bloomed and not bled. “ mission fuckin’ accomplished, ” he laughed, cut off by a kiss, and that was new. he didn’t know what to make of it yet. “ nah, bambs is manning the flowers and ada’s— ” shit, what did ada do during the day ? “ —err, out. ” fuck knew where, he’d have to ask about that later. “ come on, ” one last brief kiss, and nat pushed himself off the wall and headed towards the balcony. “ if you’re gonna’ fuck up my body with a knife, i need to not be sober for it, ya fookin’ psycho. ”
there was a different feel to this meeting - an urge, a craving for something more that the blonde regarded as one-sided. it’s not like she was in love with nat but she was expecting... more? his input on his new roommates made her snap out of her thoughts, her final realization being her newly discovered sentiments to be just plain idealizations of their strange relationship -- she was well aware nothing else could come out of it. “interesting - i’ve been meaning to go out with ada but we haven’t figured out a way to make it work.” she commented, just to make small conversation as they moved towards the balcony, sound laughter erupting from scarlet lips at the bas impression. “you need to make the accent a bit thicker for it to be perfect, y’know?” she said, pulling out her lighter and the knife from the pocket of her pants. after she’d tossed the lighter to the boy, she’d opened the knife, showing the blade at nat. “what d’ya think?”

Charlie lead himself into apartment complex after, miraculously, talking himself into a shorter shift tonight. Somehow, the boy was still having trouble adjusting to the time difference from back home and it was taking it’s toll. He was still awake from the forced sleepless night before, running on absolutely no sleep. But for some reason, he was guessing home sickness, he couldn’t seem to calm his mind long enough for him to fall asleep. It was a mix of a lose/lose situation and life-long run in with insomnia to blame for the sleepwalking mess the boy became over the past week. “Coffee sounds amazing right now.” Charlie stated, mostly to himself, in his low, Irish accent as he unlocked his mailbox and grabbed whatever was to be inside. His absent mind didn’t realize anyone around him until a voice spoke from beside him.
Adriana was coming home from a long day at work. Her boss had made her stay longer today, having to check and deliver a few drafts of books that would be published mid-fall and to say she was exhausted was an understatement. Luckily, one of her favorite coffee shops around was open and she’d gotten herself a black coffee and a cinnamon latte -- she was a bit greedy for caffeine that night and just as she was taking a sip of the latte, a male voice near the mailboxes startled her. The fact that she had two coffees struck her as weird, “Do you like black coffee?” She asked, looking up from her hands.
In a cottage home in France, wearing lingerie and twirling around the kitchen

“If you think that I’m letting Daisy run around the complex with nothing but a broken walkie-talkie and an aviator helmet to protect her then you would be correct. I’m not proud of that.” Michael sighed defeatedly as he nodded, picturing his rambunctious child going on her silly adventures. Maybe he shouldn’t have read her that book on Amelia Earhart after all. “So my apologies if she is disruptive. Feel free to scold her.”
“I can’t believe you’re always letting her do things she reads in books,” Adriana commented, blue hues trained on the little girl in front of them. “Well, most things, of course.” She pointed out, nails tapping on the cover of her In Cold Blood book. It’d been a while since the last time they met to talk about their reads and the blonde definitely was looking forward to this day. “She looks great - I wish I had been that cool of a kid.”

harlow was the type of person that was always going and doing things. he loved to have fun no matter what he was doing. while he hated doing homework, he actually liked the things he was studying. homework was just terrible. harlow loved being outside and wished that he could spend more time outside. “uh, like three hours,” he replied, with a laugh. “well, i’m not taking you to a haunted house.” harlow sat up.
adriana looked down at her hands, a questioning gaze going toward the boy. “do you mind?” she asked, pointing down at the cigarette in her hands. while he replied, she let out a short chuckle, smirking playfully at the boy. “i like haunted houses -- i wouldn’t mind if you took me to one.” she teased, playing with the stick in her hands.

nat had never meant to make adriana a habit, but it was all the same, really. his nights would start like this and end with her spread out naked on a mattress, cheeks flushed and lips looking thoroughly kissed. it was a casual hook up, only nat didn’t feel like he was doing this entirely out of convenience anymore. “ it’s nice. suits you. ” he pressed the words of appraisal against her jaw, then bit the tender skin underneath it, tongue drawing a line over the red mark left behind. “ you look hot. ” nat pulled back, doing a shitty job of biting down a smile and his rising curiosity. from what he could gather, when girls cut their hair, there was usually some sort of catalyst behind it. female power empowerment or symbolism or something. he’d forgotten the exact words meredith had used, but miley cyrus had done it, apparently, and nat already thought she was batshit. “ ‘felt like you needed a change ? ”
when they’d arranged to be casual hookups their meeting spot tended to be her apartment, late at night and when she woke up, nat wasn’t there anymore. it was like that until days turned into months, nights into days and waking up to an empty bed was no longer an issue because the familiar physique of the norwegian man was the ghost in her bed. “thank you -- i was planning on cutting it for the longest time and now it just sort of... happened.” she explained briefly, not wanting to get into detail about having changed her hair because she’d gotten dumped. her delicate hand went up to his cheek and then to the back of his neck, manicured nails softly scratching his scalp in a distracted manner. “felt like i needed to recover my youth and start looking cunty again.” she replied quirkily, pressing a kiss on his mouth, lips the moving up to his earlobe. “are the human girls home?” the question was so ridiculous that she couldn’t help but pull away from him to laugh loudly.
