Geez, you were tired. And stressed. And moody. And overall not in the mood to do anything right now. You were finishing up the very first painting you made in your new home, one you've been working on non-stop for the past three days, when you ended up tripping and spilling paint all over it.
You didn't want to go stay in your apartment, because that means you had to look at it until you had the energy to go throw it out. So now here you are at the park, sitting on the swings as you dejectedly stared into nothing.

You lined up at the cashiers. The line up wasn’t long so it wouldn’t take too long, you hoped. “Huh, w-well,” you said, turning to face him with a soft smile. “It is probably late but buon compleanno (happy birthday).” You looked around, your face relaxing a bit as you noticed the crowds beginning to tone down as you rocked back and forth on your feet. ”I w-was going to begin my paintin’ so I w-would like to go to w-where I am livin’. Maybe w-we can do it there, yes? If you are comfortable w-with it.” You always wanted to make sure the other was comfortable with something you wanted to do, it was a habit from being too anxious with the simplest things.
"Thanks." You give him a small smile back, really hoping he was saying something like ‘happy birthday.’ That’s what it sounded like, at least. ‘Good’ something, and birthday made sense. Yeah, you’ll just go with happy birthday.
He seems to relax when you get closer to the exit and you have to admit you feel a little bit better here too. You’ve more than filled your quota for crowds today. When he suggests his place, you nod. Anywhere quiet sounds good right now. “Sure, if you don’t mind. Where do you live?”
You give a silent nod. It was still lots of people outside, so you wanted to get home as quick as possible. "Uh, w-where I am livin'?" You briskly moved to open your satchel, rummaging through the junk you keep in there. Biting your lip as you found what you were looking for, you pulled out a wrinkled piece of paper, handing it to him. Your address was written on it in your neat writing. You knew the address, yes, but you haven't really memorized yet the exact location. You were hoping Dirk could help you with that.
"I am thinkin' not too far from here, yes?" you said, leaning forward a bit too gaze at his face. "I am still unsure w-with the area. I do not w-want to admit, but I am scared that I might be gettin' lost if I lead the w-way." You chuckled sheepishly.

Your predictions from when you first laid your eyes on Dirk were quite accurate as well. “Tw-wenty one, huh? It’s fine.” You chuckled at that. “W-we’ll see.”
Dirk seemed just as excited as you were about it. You smiled. Some of his words you didn’t understand quite well, but you understood what he was talking about nonetheless. “It all sounds nice. W-when w-will it start?” You thought for a moment before shrugging, finally choosing a good enough apple and moving to the cashiers. “How-w about after I pay for apple? If you w-want to.”
You nod. “Yep. Turned the drinking age this past December.”
"Whenever you want it to, basically." You shrug and smile. "I pretty much make my own schedule so whenever’s good for you is good for me." As he moves, you follow. "I’m free if you’re free. Where did you want to practice?"

I love seeing people walking by with little smiles on their face because something small happened that made them happy. Maybe they got a cute text, maybe they got laid, maybe they killed a man. You will never know.
psa: if you ever have any questions about my character, you are always welcome to ask them. i encourage asking questions for it also helps me develop my character further or help explain something unclear.

You laughed lightly at his eccentric ideas. You were more for doing your art in silence, maybe even with some music in the background, but this? It was going above and beyond your comfort zone and you actually felt excited. Well, if he wasn’t kidding, of course. How old? He meant your age right? Probably, yeah. “19,” you replied. It was an odd question, not like you minded of course.
"Yes," you agreed before adding in, "do w-we not all?" You grinned, extremely happy with his acceptance to your offer. This was great! You had someone to help you out with your English, and you thought it would be quite grand to teach someone about your native tongue. "I w-will try very much as w-well. I am excited about it, yes."
Okay, so you were pretty spot on. Now your curiosity is satisfied. “Cool. I’m 21. I was just curious. I predict we’ll reach fame before you’re 22.”
" … Deep and very true." He really does look excited and you have to smile at his energy. "Good! Enthusiasm is key. So, how do we want to do this? We could set up meeting times, practice conversation. Half English, half Italian? We could watch movies or something too, anything to immerse ourselves since I hear immersion is the best strategy." You could get out some grammar books, both English and Italian. It would be slow going, but definitely worth it!
