“I have to, dang it!” Tapu Lele barely got up. “The Kahuna’s life…is at risk!” Tapu Fini was right about Lele going across the line, but this time she was going to go blazing across it.

She sped off…and crashed into a huge flower patch. Welp, good job Lele. At least she was in her main power source, so she could regain her strength.

“Lele!!”

Annoyed yet concerned after the not so graceful crash landing Fini soared after her, stopping just short of the flower bed. Both she and Tapu Koko were extremely stubborn these days. Why was plainly obvious as the patterned designs on their hulls, but in Fini’s eyes, confronting an angry, destructive being while not at the top of one’s game is the last path of action. She couldn’t imagine any of the Kahunas’ cornering an injured Beast, it was a poor decision on their part. Why wouldn’t anyone listen to the voice of reason??

“Do you really think your Kahuna would corner an injured creature? A particularly dangerous one at that.”

“Bl…Blast!” Tapu Lele knew that that Beast would gun for the Kahuna as well, and the Guardian knew well enough that she wouldn’t stand a chance. Her Rock type team would be decimated. She trusted Tapu Fini, but didn’t want her to get hurt doing what should be the butterfly’s job.

“I’ve got…to go back there!” Flowers. Where were a patch of flowers? Their aroma was Lele’s source of energy. If she gained the rest of her power then she could at least stand a chance against the Ultra Beast.

“Absolutely not, you’re injured!”

Fini could hear the pressing worry and urgency in her voice. If she were honest with herself, she would be doing the same thing, putting herself back in the fight. But there was always a time when a line shouldn’t be crossed, and Lele was pretty darn near it.

“I understand your concern, believe me, but these Beasts are more coordinated than I initially pictured.”

“Fini, I…” Curse that Ultra Beast! She managed to defeat the rogue Xurkitree, but she didn’t come out unscathed. In fact, the Akala Guardian was gravely injured but didn’t want to rest until she made sure the Ultra Beast was gone. It was all that mattered to her, even above her own condition.

“That Beast…is it gone? Is…everyone safe?”

Fini sighed with relief when she say Lele awake. Thank the stars above she was alright!

“Yes, for the time being. It fled to the Lush Jungle after you defeated it. The Kahuna is preventing any challengers from attempting the Jungle Trial until it has been dealt with.”

There was no real way to sugar coat it. The Beast was still on the loose, possibly tending to it’s wounds as well. Fini herself wanted to go after it, but she feared that another Beast would go after Lele when she left.

     Ah there it is. The obvious sign of Fini knowing just exactly what Koko was thinking on doing.

     Well, least she knows he’s going to be up for something. Whether she approves of this or not. But in a way, this would definitely benefit the team, right? If he could at least try and find a way to speak to these things, whether they are to fight or not, then it could make the solution come forth at a quicker rate! Whether they’re good or bad–at least that much would be answered.

     “Yes, I know. As a team, like always.” He shrugged, “We can only do so much though. But, I have faith that an answer will come very soon. If only we..do something that’s a little out of the box, so to speak.”

There was an small audible sigh as she felt her shoulders relax. It was too early to say that he would actually listen to her for once, time would only tell. 

And here we go, one of Tapu Koko’s ideas. Nothing good could come of this.

“Aren’t you forgetting what happened last time we worked outside the box? I don’t doubt that answers will come to us but we need to be careful. Preferably without putting each other at risk.”

It was bad to hold onto the past, but she could never forget the day the guardians lost someone close to them. One does not brush off an encounter like that as if it were nothing. It was a good reminder not to trust everyone until they had proved themselves.

     If it were to draw them out, then they didn’t necessarily failed. They lost, obviously, but who are they to assume what their true intentions even are? These were beings that literally came out of some dimensional gateway. He couldn’t even fully speak to the beast..maybe..not as of yet. He’ll find a way–and maybe he could learn a bit more about them if they don’t attack him.

     Of course, he would keep that thought where it belongs. In his mind. He knew how Fini may respond to such notions, so this is definitely something he’ll test on his own. With or without Fini’s ‘approval’.

     “I’m glad you two are safe at least. Along with the rest of the people and Pokemon thus far. As far as those beasts go, well..the most we can do right now is make sure everyone is safe, right?” Yeah, that’s one way of putting it. He didn’t want to make his intentions known just yet.

“Yes, when we are certain that everyone is well, we can start investigating where these beasts came from and why they attacked. As a team this time, Tapu Koko.”

Tapu Fini’s words were sharp like a dagger. She didn’t want any repeat performances of their teamwork in the past. The guardian was quite sick of slip ups and failures because they couldn’t function as a team. But perhaps it was because they had their own way of doing things, and they had their weaknesses.

Tapu Koko kept doing things on his own, Tapu Lele was a horrible influence to her brothers and tended to float into traps constantly; Tapu Bulu rushed into battle without even thinking, and while she would never openly admit it, Tapu Fini herself was too commandeering and too prideful to admit her mistakes.

“We haven’t seen the last of them. The threat is still possibly out there. I can feel it.”

     While she would never agree to his behavior, especially as a fellow deity, even he knows at this very moment the MeleMele guardian is doing what he can.

     “It was a harsh battle, but..I managed.”

     He didn’t want to admit to much. He did what he was suppose to do–and truthfully..he had never experience a fight quite like that one in a long time. He can only hope that wasn’t the case for the other Guardians, but that was highly unlikely. “It went after Hala but..luckily, I was fast enough to defend him.”

Tapu Fini nodded before continuing. “We all struggled with this fight. Wherever they came from, they were determined to remove any threats that stood in their way.” 

“One went after Hala?” Her tone was surprised. While she hadn’t officially appointed the new Kahuna, the humongous otherworlder focused it’s attacks more on the ground-type user. “Perplexing...the same happened to me and Hapu, whom I have chosen to be the new Kahuna of Poli Island.” She paused for thought. “But why go after the Kahunas and not us?” Perhaps to draw them out? If that truly was their goal then they had failed miserably, but if it wasn’t, then what was their intentions?

     “Nothing says I couldn’t visit.”

     If he had any sort of sign of him showing off a ‘smile’, surely his eyes would show such signs. What he says is true after all. While they obviously have their duties, it’s not like they could see each other every once in a while either.

     “Anyhow..Aside from that. I wanted to see for myself if everything is alright. This may not be MeleMele, but I worry all the same.”

Tapu Koko...he always had a free spirit and free will of thinking. How could he live with such a chaotic lifestyle she wondered. Yet...the feeling was mutual to see him safe and well.

“Very well, I suppose just this once could be an exception.” Tapu Fini returned a gentle ‘smile’ of her own.

“Everything is fine here, but we were attacked by some...thing earlier. Not of this world. I was lucky to have Hapu at my side to assist. I am to assume that similar creatures attacked your isle as well as Tapu Lele’s and Tapu Bulu’s.”

Another day had come and passed on Poni, with no incident even made the day even better. But Tapu Fini couldn’t be found at the Ruins of Hope, rather, she was at the highest point of Poni Canyon. Here she could oversee the ruins below, and she could see someone, she couldn’t tell who they were, but they were headed towards the Canyon. Who would be entering the ruins at near dusk? Curious.

“Tapu Koko? What brings you out here to Poni Island?” Whenever the deities left their home isle, it was for a good reason. True, they didn’t have enough time to warn each other about the beasts that descended from the sky, it was unexpected, to say the least.

Tapu Fini is the guardian of Poni Island. Its a Water/Fairy type with the ability Misty Surge, which activates Misty Terrain when Tapu Fini enters battle
