Yan will be taking a hiatus from the show while he gets life as a stay-at-home sorted out. Expect him back, hopefully, some time in October. In the meanwhile, Willie will be continuing on- expect some episodes with Brian et al coming up!

War might never change, but WXY show seems to on a weekly basis. Willie has unfortunately just announced that he’s leaving the show on our FB page.

While I’m saddened and disheartened by this, I personally do plan to continue podcasting in some capacity. I enjoy the entire process, though the specifics for WXY Show itself are vague in my mind at the moment (especially given who the W in our title stands for). I will keep you posted.

I really enjoy the designs of the weirdly environmentally minded swamp dwelling dwarves from Chrono Cross. They’re so cute and totally understandable since the main character is literally out to render the species that they’ve deified extinct. Serge is a dick, and that’s before he swaps bodies with Lynx.

“Environmentally minded” GIANT SMOG BLOWING TANK. The game tries to make the dwarves sympathetic but fails considering their reaction to humans being mean was to slaughter the fairies. It would have been more sympathetic if they tried to attack say arni village because it was the humans fault. And the Hi-Ho Tank is in no way, shape, or form designed with the environment’s well being in mind

Oh man, I forgot about all that- I’m playing the game through for the first time since it came out. For the first encounter with them, my post holds true- the character party is clearly the aggressor. But then they go full turn around and become genocidal maniacs. They find someone weaker than them and take their aggression out on the poor faeries. Honestly though... and I think in part my critique of the writing in this game comes because it’s on the heels of me finishing FF9... the writing in this game ain’t great. Motivations are a big question mark for everyone but the main character- and early on, I don’t remember if it’s explained later, but even a lot of main characters motivations are pretty abstract. Great art and music, though. Good but not great battle system. Writing is better than FF7 or 8 but don’t touch 9. I’m a ways away from that, yet, I’m still relearning battle strategies so the hydra smoked me on the first go around.

Oh yeah and I still love the dwarf character design, they’re such charming looking little snubs.

Fallout Shelter

Yesterday I just laid on my couch and played Fallout Shelter all day. Play some Fallout Shelter, browse tumblr, Fallout Shelter, tumblr, repeat. It was fun. My vault was perfectly balanced, I definitely didn’t feel like I needed to be on top of it all day, but I was legitimately having fun with it so I did. Then I had a nap.

When I came back to the game all of my resources were critically low. My dwellers were starving, which means their health was decreasing. My water was in the red, which means my dwellers were becoming irradiated. I had noticed this before but did not realize how severe it was. This game is NEEDY as all balls. You don’t get to walk away from it: if you don’t check it every few minutes then you’re caught playing catch-up. You can buy (with real world money) Mr Handy, they’re about a buck a piece. They patrol one floor and collect resources for you. And honestly? If when I was done with a vault, I could transfer them to another one, I would make the purchase, because the game is fun. But when you’re stuck playing catch-up if you put the game down for so much as an hour… nope. Nope. I don’t really know what the solution is, beyond buying a Mr Handy for each floor for each vault you’re running. I get that the stats have to go down when you’re not playing and it makes sense that resources only get collected while you are playing, but playing catch-up isn’t fun. When I play, I want to progress, not catch-up. Also, once you’re a couple of hours in, raiders attack almost constantly. It wasn’t really a big problem- my dwellers were well enough equipped that I just ignored raider attacks. They died almost as soon as they were in the vault, really. But it was getting a bit tedious. There are a few other issues I had with the game, but they were mostly nitpicking. Obviously Fallout Shelter is non-canonical, and it was designed to be fun and not logical. But vaults were built and populated before the bomb… not the other way around. That didn’t really jive with me. But, again, that’s just nitpicking.

Other people that I've been talking to didn't seem to have this issue to the extreme that I did.
