ISTD- FINAL POSTERS DESIGN
ART RESESRCH +
https://pogotowie.tumblr.com/
One of the initial stages of the research was the observation of how the artistic community reacts to the current situation in Poland. Tumblr blog called "Pogotowie Graficzne", i.e. after being translated into English means “Graphic Emergency”, has published a collection of artistic works - with an emphasis on posters - corresponding to support for women in the 2020 Women's Strike.
Below I have posted works that made a good impression on me and those that somehow also inspired my project - for example by using lightning bolt symbols or stars. I was rather far from creating works showing female reproductive organs or showing middle fingers as the campaign should not be vulgar, but carry a supportive and respectful message. I have included examples of more radical works here because of the aesthetic value and the style of illustration.

ART RESEARCH
https://www.vogue.pl/a/strajk-kobiet-artysci-ktorzy-wspieraja-protesty
While all over Poland, since the end of October, mass protests against the decision to tighten the abortion law continued, artists and artists also join in supporting women. They decided to express their objection through artistic creativity. Many creators decided to provide the protesters with graphics and animations. They are avialable to print for free , or to take them for protests.
Vogue Poland magazine recently published an article with interviews with artists, illustrators and designers supporting Starajki Women 2020. The artists discussed what they consider important in creating art during groundbreaking events in society, and how illustration and visual communication affect the character events, showing the energy of protesters. Below are some of my favourite artists illustrations, however the whole series of works can be found on the Vogue Poland website (link above).

I believe that artists should create posters and visuals for women's protests and movements, because it shows the support for women and confirms that they are not alone. At the same time, I am far from fueling anger, hence the artistic works should show women's emotions, their anger or regret, but not encourage hatred. I myself would like my illustrations to reflect the condition of women at a given moment, of course based on my own experiences.

UNIT EVALUATION
1. What informed and motivated my design decisions?
My research was mainly based on constantly following the current information about the Women Strikes 2020 in Poland and around the world. The final appearance of my project was significantly influenced by the photographs taken during the protests, numerous interviews with the participants and the analysis of the words of specialists in the online news and radio. I also based my project on the experiences of similar campaigns and organizations such as METOO or EVERDAYSEXISM, or the more artistically abstract TODXS, all of which were aimed largely at women.
2. What changes and developments has my project gone through?
Designed response to 1 ISTD brief “The Revolution Will Not Be...”- a campaign in social media and creating a website visualization, has undergone many changes, in particular in the field of digital poster design. The elements established from the beginning were the color palette and the selection of typeface used in the project. Not theoretical, but visual elements, such as the design of the text hierarchy, composition and layout, or the selection of appropriate symbols or photographs, were subject of major development processes.
3. Did I manage my time well within the unit?
I believe that the question of time in this union could be debated. From the beginning of the project, I planned each step, but physically, I was not able to use all the potential that I could put into this project. In terms of time planning, I have nothing to blame myself, because I managed the organization, however some difficulties in keeping up with expectations (e.g. tutorials) were affected by unexpected changes in private life, including sudden loss of job due to the virus and the pandemic. I will try to organize my time even more efficiently in the future.
4. How did I respond to feedback?
For every feedback - this satisfying, but also encouraging improvement and development - I hope I responded effectively. It often happened that with each corrected mistake came another one, however, I found the given fedback useful and helpful. In this project, not only because of Level 6, but also because of online learning, I relied my own opinion, preferences and design choices to a large extent.
5. Are there areas of my design process that need more practice?
I believe that the changes that I could introduce were a matter of time and I could improve them. I definitely need to practice further using typography in my designs as well as working on some additional skills in Adobe InDesign.
6. What have I learnt from this area of study?
I gain lot of development from research in terms of typography and observing the projects of professionals from Behance - watching the work of designers always motivates me to work and gives me new ideas. For sure I improved some skills of using Adobe programs, and by watching tutorials, I was able to create short moving images (also for short projects).
7. On reflection are there any improvements that I would make on my final outcomes?
At this stage, I am satisfied with the result of my ISTD project. I created not only campaign materials, as two poster categories, but also website visualizations with communication, avatar and interactive map functions. I was able to design a possible Instagram profile for the project and put in it posts - photo edits, collages, use of symbols, moving images and animations. I am satisfied with the spectrum of work I have done during the hard time of the pandemic - difficult physically and mentally. If time allowed, I would like to introduce some modifications to the project and polish the details, however, it is post-assessment matter.
ISTD POSTER FINAL DEVELOPMENT
After the last tutorial on the ISTD project, I made one more attempt to change the posters. This time, as advised, I went back to the design of my initial posters as they had more expression and a "revolutionary" bold message tone. So in the final development I tried to include all and only the most important information and try to give the form of photos and symbols of lightning bolts more dynamics than in the previous posters.
The final and final stages of the posters for the ISTD project are published. As I intended, I created two categories of posters from the beginning: typographic and more illustrative. I used symbolism and also created them in two color ranges, allowing you to freely change whether you use it by recipients in social media or in campaign promotion.
ISTD WEBSITE MAP
At one of the later stages, I also designed an interactive map visualization for the Her_Choice website. Thanks to it, people supporting and interested in the events of Women Strikes 2020, could see the protest place, at what time and what was happening there. Because the map function would be combined with the option of share history by users who could adjust their experiences and discussions to the chosen places on the world map.
ISTD WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
The campaign in social media and the creation of a website was the main goal of my response to the brief "The Revolution Will Not Be ...". In addition to designing the main page, where interested recipients will be able to find additional necessary information about the strike action, but also learn about events or learn about the tightening of abortion rights. As part of the "reflection, respect and self-awareness" discussed in the brief, the website should offer support for users' difficult questions and concerns. In addition to typically informational functions, the website also needed features enabling communication in the community.
It was one of the main issues raised by protesters, in interviews, in the streets and in documents, and by women who simply wanted to support the right of individual decision-making by others united in the common females' cause. The matter of communication and staying united in a global pandemic. Of course, the main medium for automatic communication, even international, would be instagram, but a website would provide a different function of spreading stories and experiences.
I have designed a function where each member of the united community supporting women, can write about their experiences, stories, opinions or simply convey something to others. When sending such a message, someone will be able to introduce themselves or provide their story anonymously (or using an avatar you created). In addition, I plan to create a map where each post could be assigned to the city, event or organization in which it took place.I saw a similar function of spreading anonymous opinions and stories on the EVERDAYSEXISM.ORG website.
I also created design of a function, in which anyone who would like to join a diverse community could create an avatar, about which I wrote in an earlier post (poster development) in regards to wearing face masks.
ISTD- AVATAR CREATOR FOR WEBSITE
ISTD POSTERS DEVELOPMENT
The posters presented below were to be a preparation for the last tutorial for the ISTD project before the final submission of works. During the last consultations it turned out that all development that I created from the very beginning must come back to it. Although I changed the hierarchies of typography, compositions and background, there was still something missing in the posters. The information contained in the poster was also reduced to the most important ones, as discussed before the last tutorial, but it still could not be the final effect of the posters. I was advised to get rid of even more information and keep three or four of the most important.
Next Steps. In this way, for the next and the last development in this project, I returned to the previously designed forms (first ones), changing them a bit visually. I will try to combine the collected content and merge it with the first more dynamic forms.
ISTD MOVING IMAGES (SOCIAL MEDIA)
In order to create a variety of forms of communication on @her_choice Instagram profile and reach the largest possible group of recipients, I created moving images in the form of a post and a potential instastory.
ISTD- FINAL INSTAGRAM PROFILE
ISTD POSTER DEVELOPMENT
During the next poster development process, I tried to add more content as directed at Interim Crit. So I added a "call to action" message- Girls! We are with you every single day-, information about the website and potential support from interested recipients. I tried to change the composition, so the first posters differ significantly. I was satisfied with the typographic bold posters so I did not introduce any major changes. I was irrevocably with the image of young women who supported this year's movement and protests.
After the tutorial. This time I have to subtract some information. There are too many of them. I should only focus on the title, call to action message and information about the website address. I need to rethink the compositions and the use of hierarchy in a typographic approach.
In addition, I dealt with creating additional content for the instagram profile. When designing one of the posts, I thought about changing its function and place of work. The post presented below was supposed to be a simple example of a Instagram edit concept, however I noticed a certain tendency in the photographs of individual women. All of them have face masks.
This is an obvious matter because women are on strike during a global pandemic, but I was wondering about the symbolic expression of this situation. These masks hinder not only verbal communication but also facial expressions. Sometimes, for the benefit or disadvantage, the whole face is covered, which makes it impossible to see who supports the strikes. You can only see it on the private Instagram of these people.
So the idea was that everyone who joins the supporting community on the website has a chance to "show" their face, their feelings or facial expressions. I'd like to create a function design that allows you to draw your avatar yourself. On a website, it would also allow you to maintain some kind of anonymity and individuality in your own style.
For now, it's a simple idea, so the design concept for this feature (avatar) on the website is currently in the process of being developed.

ISTD FIRST POSTERS
I divided the first development posters, as I planned, into two categories: the typographic ones and those involving photography and symbols. I also created them in two different shades of the previously selected color palette - the colors during Interim Crit were found to be matching and satisfying. These are the first trials, so I'm still working on the "call to action" message, but I know for sure the main title will be "SUPPORT WOMEN CHOICE".
Interim Crit. During my presentation, the color palette and typographic posters were well received. They showed bold and clear messages, matching the movement tone about which I am doing the project - International Women Strikes 2020. However, the main posters need to be refined because they do not contain any relevant information. However, in the first of them (red background, blue photography), the dynamics and a slight disheveling of the forms were liked.
The next step will be to refine the posters and try to rearrange and change the composition. I'd like to experiment with other backgrounds or photos and also rethink the "call to action" maessage. I also have to run a development social media campaign and start thinking about the design of the website and its functions.
