On the same day that the Valley’s eligible debutantes arrive for their first term at convent school, a young woman arrives begging to be taken as a novitiate prospect. Isolated and far from home, the young woman has no choice but to befriend the seemingly vapid group. But as she develops feelings for the top debutante, something dark lurks in the corners of the abbey. The Valley’s daughters have brought their world of secret societies with them, and soon, the novitiate may be forced to choose between destroying them or succumbing to the terrifying, yet seductive, realm of the elite.

SETTING: bedlam, virginia, 1994

STATUS: thinking about it very hard

SUMMARY:

Isaac Robinson is obsessive, jealous, and desperate to duct-tape his broken pieces together after dropping out of school when he meets Sawyer Dean: equally obsessive, charming yet cruel, and eager to be free of his family as he moves states for med school. As Isaac and Sawyer's lives intertwine slowly but surely, the two become infatuated with violence and each other in equal measure, their identities forever warped to fit the shape of the other person, though neither of them can find the will to fully break away from the strange, twisted thing that has built up between them. With Isaac and Sawyer hurtling towards an inevitably doomed end, the only question is which one of them will snap first.

hi! so! this got out of hand. the tldr of it is that i wanted to write a short story, and then the short story wasn't enough so now I have a tentative novella/novel on my hands. i'm still mostly focusing on revolution, retribution ATM but i am working on this one in the background and wanted to provide a little context as to what i'm talking about :3

genre: found footage horror (but written down)

wordcount goal: 5k because university is trying to kill me. the main goal is actually to do some writing to start figuring out the sequence of events and the characters

cw: cannibalism, depictions of violence and torture, body horror, harm to animals, unreality, feeding into fear and paranoia, probably fire

summary: multimedia project about a group of 5 friends who become stranded within a forest with some unsettling folklore tied to it, as the cliché goes. the horror is slowly revealed to them and it seems to go beyond just the eerie feeling of being watched or the figure they can sometimes see ambling between the trees.

core theme: love as horror and the horror is making it your problem

characters: that's a secret 🤫 a lot of the story relies on the characters being a bit of a mystery

inspiration: over the garden wall, the magnus archives, mabel podcast, the blair witch project (that i have not watched), marble hornets (that i also haven't watched), whatever @teddywriting tells me is good horror, @gloryburningofficial
