He wasnât really sure what to do at that point, considering that everything Cassie said wasnât wrong. He was going to end up hurting himself one day and it was something that he wouldnât be able to come back from. Cassius almost hated the fact that he would have preferred it that way some nights. He tried to focus more on the burning of his knuckles, instead of the burning of his finger tips whenever the skin brushed together. Focusing more on the numbing pain instead of how their hands always seemed to fit perfectly with each other. It made him angrier knowing that Cassie must have seen him as everyone else did because at the end of the day, he had proved everyone right. He was exactly who they thought heâd be.Â
Cassius grinned when Cassie said she knew he liked having his hands torn up this way because while it wasnât entirely true, it also wasnât a lie. He tended to find himself in trouble more often than not, but the reasoning behind this was completely different. âSee, someone who understands my need to keep up with this rebellious image so many seem to think I haveâ Aiden smirked at her with his response.Â
When she pressed down firmer, he gritted his teeth but didnât show any sign of discomfort. âYouâre glad it hurt? Your lack of concern almost makes me feel like I have a heart in this shallow chest of mineâ Cassius shrugged his shoulders, slowly pulling his hands away, for fear of liking them in hers a little too much. âYou know, you didnât have to show up here anyways. Cassie seemed pretty damn adamant about wanting to know wht had conspired in his room but he wasnât sure he wanted to relive those thoughts again, even with someone who wouldnât judge him for doing so. There was so much to say and words didnât seem to want to come out of his mouth unless they were laced with sarcasm and non caring actions.Â
âSee, I could tell you, but then Iâd have to kill you and you know Cassie. You are definitely too pretty to dieâ He smirked at her again before he watched her walk away into the kitchen, not realizing her exact intentions before she came back with a wet cloth and practically demanded that she gave him his hand. For some reason, the demand was a lot more attractive than it was annoying. Still, it wasnât like he had much of a choice either before his hand was in hers.Â

He heard the tone of her voice and fought a laugh that was making its way through. âOoo, someone does not sound pleased with meâ He noted, tapping his index finger against his chin as his eyes scanned the room once more. âOh this? Just doing a little redecorating. I figured Iâd save myself some money and do it myself. Iâve never really been a pintrest guyâ Aiden shrugged his shoulders, shuffling some glass with his foot as if his apartment didnât look like a tornado had formed right in the middle of it.Â
It was hard looking at Cassie, looking at someone with actual concern in their eyes for him. How could she bother to keep him around when all he had done was left her behind? Cassius was incapable of helping anyone. He couldnât save Titus..He couldnât be there for Cassie. So why did he have that constant need to be around her? âI figured Iâd move the bed over there but kind of gave up when I realized Iâll probbaly moving out of this shit hole anyways so, might as well have fun with itâÂ

Aiden wasnât sure what had compelled him to text Cassie out of everyone else in his contact list, but it felt like she would be the most able to connect with him. Even if it had been years since he left, it didnât change the fact that once in a blue moon, that woman knew most everything there was to know about one Cassius Holliday. So, he took the plunge and was now waiting for the other woman to arrive. He looked around his trashed apartment but found no real reason to clean it up. There was no motivation to.
The man just walked around, kicking the glass with his foot until a knocking on the door made his head lift up. He would have said come in, but he also should have expected Cassie to just assert herself and come in anyways. Which she had. âWere you raised in a barn or is that how you enter everyoneâs home?â Aiden gave her a smirk, completely ignoring the fact that things didnât even look relatively normalÂ
Cassie: Okay, then it's going to be okay. It's always okay.
Cassie: You know I don't hate you. I tried to hate you. I tried really fucking hard, in fact. But truthfully, I could never hate you, Cass. I kind of hate that.
Aiden: How many times do you tell yourself that before you believe it?
Aiden: You hate that you can't hate me. Now if that doesn't sound like some cheesy romantic comedy, I don't know what does. Too bad this is real life, huh? Where the piece of shit doesn't get the girl and everything isn't always sunshine and rainbows. We may live in HollyWood, but our lives are nowhere near it
NOTES â Cassius lets his past catch up to him and it isnât pretty. Half because heâs sad, half because I donât know what paragraphs areÂ
It had been a rather off putting day for Aiden. He noticed it the moment he got up but chose to ignore it, as he did with most things in his life that brought him even mild irritation. His head was still spinning from the night before, he had definitely overdone but by the smirk on his face, he surely didnât care. Without much of a debate about it, Cassius dressed and head out the door to greet the day and by that, he was going to the local deli to pick up a couple of sandwiches to bring back home. As he made his way, he noticed something that for most people wouldnât have seemed out of the ordinary but for him--it was like trying to fight off a memory.Â
For some odd reason, it felt like everyone on the planet had decided to go out with their child today. He could see them and their smiling faces, their laughter--it made his stomach turn. Still, he chose to push past it once again and managed to slip into the deli and away from the crowded sidewalks. Cassius took a breath, hands in his leather jacket pockets as eyes scanned the menu, completely lost in thought. It wasnât until he felt something crash into his lower half, his dark jeans being soaked with - what even was that- ice cream? Aiden turned his head and looked down to see a little boy with eyes as blue as the ocean staring up at him. His face covered in vanilla ice cram, eyes prickling with tears.Â
âCarter! I told you not to run off like that!â A mans voice bellowed as the child scrambled behind him. Cassius was instantly put off by this mans voice as he approached them. âSorry, man. My girls kid is a fucking spazz, I canât keep him in lineâ He said pathetically, reaching for the small boys arm and yanking him forward.Â
âHey, how about you tone it down there. Heâs just a kid. Pretty sure he didnât ask for you to show up in his life, cut him a break it was an accidentâ Â Cassius stood his ground, the look in that little boys eyes rattling something in his mind that he was so desperately trying to forget.Â
âYou expect me to take kid advice from you? Fucking kidding me? I do what the hell I want, you aint raising his ass are ya? I didnât think so. So, how about you keep that trap shutâ He scoffed rolling his eyes at him and tugging the boy along further, Aiden watched as his little eyes began shedding tears and his own fists bawled up.Â
âI said--Cut. The kid.  A break.â Each word said separately as Aiden made his way towards the pair, his actions causing a small crowd to look at them. He placed his hands on the mans shoulder, looking him dead in the eye with a look that could kill. âIâm not going to tell you again. Itâs either going to be  or someone else who shows your pathetic ass some respect and trust me, you donât want it to be meâ His voice was dark as he stared into the strangers eyes.Â
âWhat the fuck ever, manâ The other stuttered out slightly, acting as if he was brushing him off but quickly lifting up the child and deciding to leave the deli all together as Cassius watched on. The only thing left being seen were those pair of blue eyes as the little boy waved him goodbye.Â
It right there in the middle of that downtown deli that it him. Those eyes. That face. The sound of his cries. Cassius felt the world around him crashing, the sound of his heart threatening to beat out of his chest as images flashed through his head and no matter how hard he tried, they just wouldnât stop.Â
âHey, buddy. You okay?â An anonymous voice rang through his head, the feeling of someone shaking him slightly bringing him back to reality. Only for him to brush them off and slip out the doors from which he came. His shoes hitting the cement with force as Aiden ran down the sidewalk as if the demons from hell themselves were chasing him. The rising and falling of his chest making him feel like if he stopped, heâd die right there. Why was this happening to him? Why now? Â Cassius ran until he felt his lungs were about to give out and then he ran some more. All the way to his apartment and up the stairs before slamming the door shut when he was finally inside.Â
âIâm sorry!â Aiden shouted out into his empty apartment  as images of a little boy clouded his mind. A little boy who he had left long ago buried under regret and despair. A face he swore he would never talk about again. The face of his little brother, the one he was supposed to protect and love. The one he had let down on that fatal day. Cassius always said if he would have been just a little stronger, just a little bigger he could have saved him. If his father had only wanted to hurt him instead of Titus. --Titus-- The name echoed in his brain like a forgotten soul, leaving a bad taste in his mouth when it left his lips. All he could see was his brother laying on the ground gasping for air, tears filling his own eyes as his hands began to shake.Â
âFUCK YOU!â Cassius shouted, the vein on his neck clearly visibly as he strained to get the words out. Shouting at a man who was never a father to him and could have been dead by now. Yelling for the things he couldnât control and for baby blue eyes he would never get to see again. The anger was boiling over now as he began to throw things against the floor. Cups that were on the counter, papers, beer bottles. You name it, it was being shattered against walls and floorboards. Aiden was spiraling downward slowly as the images continued to flash across in his head, the final one being him on his knees with his baby brother in his hands. So young, so non deserving of the bad things that his life had dealt him.Â
The feeling of his knuckles cracking against the wall only made him go that much harder. Even after they began leaking red, he forced himself to go on before eventually a dob ripped from his throat and he dropped to his knees. His chest now heaving, sweat dripping from his brow as he wondered why in the end, death hadnât come for him instead. âTitus...Iâm..Iâm so sorryâ Aiden said, looking down, eyes squeezed shut. âIf I had been stronger..I should have..â Cassius gritted the words out through teeth as he fought the tears from breaking through. He steadily got up from his position, his heart still racing a thousand miles a minute as the anger boiled over him again. All he could see was his fathers face and the way he had thrown Titus against the wall with so much force that Cassius felt it in his very being. âNo. no no. NO!â Aiden shouted out again at figures that werenât really there, grabbing a hold of his hair and tugging on it roughly. As if screaming loud enough would get rid of his demons.Â
Cassius couldnât tell you how he had gotten here. Leaning over his balcony with knuckles bloodied and torn, watching everyone pass by. How had he gotten here? How had out running your demons turned into becoming one of them? The thought had been pushed so far back into his mind that it refused to be apart of him until he had no other choice but to accept it. Aiden looked out onto the city, at the sun shining over everyone and finally let a tear roll at the sight of baby blue eyes heâd never see again.Â
I appreciate you crawling out from under your rock to answer this, but your irrelevant and wrong opinion is not needed here, brother dearest.Â
