keep looking at the stars
The first inkling Scully had that Mulder might want a motorcycle was the sound of it coming up the driveway. Until she saw him approaching in a brand new leather jacket she had no idea that he’d ever considered it.
Despite how good he looked on it, despite how much she loved the idea of the wind on her face, she heard her own voice start to protest.
“I hope you don’t expect me to ride that,” she said, after he cut the engine. A smile crept across her face as she realized she had only said it because she knew he expected her to. Mulder was hoping for a lecture.
“Oh, you’ll ride it,” he responded, tossing a helmet to her. “Come one, Scully. I got helmets. And leather jackets.”
She could see now that he had a jacket draped over his lap for her.
“Let’s go, then.” Donning the helmet and the jacket, she couldn’t help but laugh at the look on his face.
“That’s it?” he asked, looking the tiniest bit disappointed.
“I could argue with you, but there’s no point. It actually sounds fun. Let’s just go, Mulder.”
The feeling of her arms wrapped around his waist convinced him she was serious. The feeling of her breasts pressed into his back convinced him he was a genius. It was just the two of them on the long, deserted country roads as the sun was setting.
When he stopped at the side of the road and started walking into the woods, he was surprised when she didn’t protest, didn’t ask where they were going. She nearly ran into the back of him when he stopped at the edge of the clearing, lost, still, in her own thoughts.
In the center of the clearing was a blanket laid out on the ground and a lantern flickering.
“You’ve been here already,” she noticed.
“I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to convince you to take a ride. I thought it might be after dark. Lie down.”
Scully lay on her back with her knees up and her hands behind her head. She heard Mulder blow out the lantern and it got darker. The sky was full of stars.
“Yes,” Mulder agreed, but he wasn’t looking at the sky. He lay down next to her, propped up on his elbow. When she turned to catch his eye, he leaned down, took her face in his hands, and kissed her.
When he finally pulled his lips from hers, he hovered only a couple of inches from her face as she ran her fingers through his hair.
“How many constellations do you know?”
“I know a lot of them. I took an astronomy class.”
“Tell me all the ones you can see,” he requested, as he unzipped her new jacket.
It was a warm night, and it felt even warmer once the wind wasn’t blowing their hair back anymore. He took his jacket off as well, lifted the bottom of her shirt and kissed her stomach, feeling her squirm and hearing her sigh.
“Tell me what you see,” he repeated, sliding his hand inside the cup of her bra and kissing her ribs. When she started naming and pointing, he nodded and unzipped her jeans. They were new pants, tighter than the ones she normally wore. She had claimed that her other pairs were getting too baggy, that she was losing weight and had to buy a smaller size.
He imagined her trying them on, imagined her smiling at the way they made her ass look in the fitting room mirror. They did make her ass look incredible–so incredible, in fact, that he was sad he couldn’t see it right then–and he knew that was the real reason she had bought them.
With her jeans finally removed and tossed aside, Mulder positioned himself between her legs, and she lifted them onto his shoulders. The trail of kisses led from her bellybutton down.
“Just keep looking at the stars,” he said.
