Engineering Company Festo Is Creating Robots Based On Nature
German engineering firm Festo is creating a robot army. Sounds scary, right? But there’s no need to fear a “Skynet”-type apocalypse quite yet, because these robots want to do good by making laborious tasks easier in the factories of the future. And they’re using nature as their inspiration.
Festo summarizes the motivation behind their research on their website: “Gripping, moving, controlling and measuring – nature performs all of these tasks instinctively, easily and efficiently. What could be more logical than to examine these natural phenomena and learn from them?”

It’s a poster likely placed in a high school. In the United States, all males must sign up for the ‘Selective Service’ once they turn 18. It’s kind of like a reserve pool of names in case there ever is another military draft. It’s against the law not to sign up and males who do not are precluded from things like scholastic financial aid (among other federal benefits), citizenship, etc.

This is what American Indians really look like
”Where’s your horse? Would you bless me? I’ve always wanted to be blessed by an Indian.”
These are the types of questions photographer Matika Wilbur, a member of the Swinomish and Tulalip tribes, has encountered when meeting non-Native people. Such experiences have largely prompted her latest endeavor, Project 562. Wilbur, whose name means “messenger,” wants to use her photography to deliver a powerful message about what it means to be Indian.
