the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers

I know DOL would never have the writting good enough for it, but i'm a little sad with the temple that we dont see (in my memory) any sign of sydney being groomed into eventually being the bext head. I suppose jordan isnt that old or anything, but i think it would be more interesting if you couod get small events where you see Sydney being prepped into the docile role, and then when school finishes being close with her in where shes more rebellious idk more flavor text would be nice, or maybe shes more hesitant to do things with you after an event where Jordan has to chastise her

full disclosure i havent played the game in months and honestly don't know if i will pick it back up again bc i don't like the direction it's taken really </3 but i still stay thinking about the version that exists in my head unfortunately. but i digress.

the idea about little events where we see more of what temple life looks like for sydney. being groomed to be the replacement head priestess/sacrificial lamb/whatever. would feed me so well. same with more jordan/syd shit. id loooove to see it

my yearning for temple politic driven interpersonal drama is immense. but i'm content with my personal delusions atp im making my own food bc well. the canon will not feed me

A little reference sheet for Elinor, in her early game state. I'll make at least a couple more for different stages of her life until the post-skyscraper situation.

Below the cut some facts about early game Elinor:

Elinor's main priority is being able to pay Bailey's weekly fee. The fates of the other orphans who failed to do so that she witnessed during the first days out of the Youth Ward left her justly terrified and the attempted assault the moment she set a foot out of the Orphanage just cementified her fear. She works all day right before and after school, micromanaging her time, and is obsessed with saving money and won't spend a penny unless she absolutely has to.

Despite her desperate need for immediate money she takes her education seriously with the faint hope that graduating with good grades might help her escape this life.

While Elinor is not consciously malicious, she's a coward at heart. Fear dominates every her action; she has one golden rule to keep herself safe (or so she thinks) and that is mind your own business: she doesn't share her money nor does intervene to help someone if this might put her in danger. She's therefore totally unreliable in emergencies as she will prioritise herself only.

She's all work and no play and her only diversions are taking care of the Orphanage's garden and killing time with either Robin at the Orphanage or Sydney at the library.

Elinor has been harbouring romantic feelings for Robin for a while - every time Robin calls her 'her best friend' or, even worse, 'her big sister' Elinor dies inside a little. The strain they both are put through is delaying any confession Elinor might have otherwise attempted and instead it's slowly driving them apart.

She only engages in 'legal' jobs despite the meagre earnings because she's terrified of the risks more 'fringe' activities might bring with them, but, as Bailey's demands grow more and more this starts getting unsustainable and a compromise more and more inevitable. Compromise that will be kindly offered by a very trustworthy man...

part 1

Context:

Quinn loves drugging Bailey, and watching her struggle to keep her ironclad composure. Quinn also loves to see how much pain Bailey can take, and she have yet to find Bailey's limit.

On the other hand, Bailey hates everything. She hates being drugged and losing her level head, not to mention the drugs takes at least a day to leave her systems. She's spending 24 hours drugged when she has shit to get to. The aphrodisiacs alongside the effects of her T just sends her hormones and sex drive through the roof, leaving her like a dog in heat.

Not to mention the aftercare Bailey has to do for herself since she refuses to let Quinn touch her longer than necessary, not that Quinn even attempted to perform aftercare.

I've been so used to the corner of fem DOL fandom that when i look up characters i get so shocked when a majority is male characters lol i miss my yuri bubble

I realize this is not a small ask but I have been lurking around dol and dolgl for a while and playing a bit on my own sometimes but I don't have any social media outside of tumblr and I'm not in any kind of dol c0rd. Sometimes I lurk on twitter to try and figure out what the tea is but I have not been able to piece together what the latest sort of drama was or what happened but two artists I follow in particular made vague statements about wanting to divorce their characters from dol entirely but I just have no idea what's been going on and haven't been able to figure it out lol. Something about someone leaving? Maybe a writer? IDK

i don't mind explaining a bit! i'm not tuned in to the drama lately, but there's been tension for a loooong time haha. mostly surrounding the official discord and the game's main devs. more under the cut lol.

a lot of the upset revolves around the dev p*ri, who has basically been the main developer for a while, he "stepped down" in november (though he's still active in the discord afaik). he's the writer of sydney, most temple/cult stuff, the iv*ry wraith, great hawk, and most recently, gwyl*n. he has a history of saying antiblack and homophobic slurs, other racist shit, homophobic and lesbophobic shit and generally being an annoying, edgy, 4chan-brand loser.

i have screenshots of his (now deleted) apology about that stuff

also worth noting that in the immediate aftermath of all this coming to light, lots of poc in dol//c0rd who brought up their grievances about p*ri and the ongoing abundance of apologetics for racist and antiblack behavior in the server, were dismissed and belittled by other people in chat, including mods. i read all this as it was happening but don't have receipts unfort.

and dol/c0rd has a history of putting ppl with histories of really violent racism and transphobia in moderating positions, and generally fostering a really hostile environment for marginalized people, especially trans people and poc.

another big issue around that time was, from what i understand, the game's creator vr*l severely mishandled a situation of sexual harassment in the official subreddit, but i don't know as much about this part and don't have receipts saved

there are other things in the game itself and the culture surrounding it that many people take issue with, and a lot of people just don't like the direction the game has taken in recent updates (the game has changed a lot since its beginnings, and p*ri's characters and writing have a lot more focus now, and many people don't fuck with it)
