Let's return to the way Etheirys once was, hundreds of millions of years past.

To a quiet and peaceful time, long before the light of mankind was kindled.

So because my dashboard is full of pride month discourse I am going to throw my own two cents in. How reductive to assume an ancient eldritch being would have the same rigid concepts of attraction and sexual identity as a 21st-century mortal. Why has a narrative masterpiece turned into a binary battlefield of 'Emet-Selch is canonically gay' vs. 'No, he is bi'? Y’all miss the entire scope of the story.

Whether you play as a male or female presenting Warrior of Light, the outcome is identical.

He recognizes your soul.

An ancient soul which, by its very nature, transcends the boundaries of flesh and gender. Forcing a multi-millennial incorporeal entity into these boxes feels like resurrecting Aristotle’s ghost to tell me my connection isn’t valid simply because I inhabit a female vessel.

You know how I read Emet-Selch? As neurodivergent, Byronic, and queer. Neuroqueerness is a lived reality, and not everything has to fit a neat social checklist. So often I wish to be rid of this vessel of flesh because of the rigid ideals others place upon me. My mind feels genderless yet my body appears female. How easy it would be if I could just politely tell my monotropic mind to stop recognizing the deep essence of a character just to avoid breaking the rules of a fandom cage.

Heavensward Spoilers

You know, thinking about it in hindsight, it really is insane that back in Heavensward the Warrior of Light did in fact canonically fight all The Knights of the Round at the same time while they were powered by both eyes of Nidhogg, thousands of years of prayer, and having just drained the aether of a Unsundered Ascian and didn't just win, but mopped the floor with them so bad that Thordan freaked out and saw us as Azem.

Really should not have killed one of their closest confidants.

Like wow, hands down one of our finest moments. Insane in hindsight.

I think the end of Endwalker is so interesting when you consider the story of Zenos being the one that helps WOL stop Endsinger and the Final Days.

If you and/or your WOL likes Zenos (or has positive leaning complicated feelings about him), then it's this really powerful moment where Zenos finally seems to have a breakthrough of understanding enough that he comes to find WOL at the edge of the universe, and upon seeing Endsinger is still alive, helps the WOL defeat her while never for a moment thinking he and WOL could fail to win. Resulting in Etheirys being saved, and the Final Days at last being completely put to rest. A feat even the ancients and acians couldn't fully achieve.

And if you and/or your WOL hates, doesn't care about, or dislikes Zenos, then all of that still happens. Only with the added funny note that the entirety of Etheirys, your friends, family, the world you love, and creation at large was saved at the last minute by the power of unrequited friendship.

And honestly, I think that's incredible

I don't think Estinien ever worries about the WoL, not because he doesn't care, but because anything you do he just assumes you'll succeed, even if it shouldn't be possible. You brought Ishgard and dragons together, you and Alphinaud saved him from Nidhogg's eyes, and then you immediately freed two more countries, of course you're going to save this other world and bring the scions' souls home. He doesn't really understand it, but it sounds like you have it covered. The world is ending? Man it's a good thing we got you on our side. Fought a god of despair at the edge of the world? That's a Tuesday for you, right? The WoL is seemingly dying on the spaceship floor? Nah, watch this, they're gonna perk up in about ten minutes and give us each a high five. (Alisaie smacks him for saying this, but he's absolutely still right.)

Estinien may not be the smartest of the scions, but he is wise, and he may not fully understand what plot armor is, but he's definitely clocked that you got it.
