When you become canon just in time to see the br*tish monarchy go down
some father and son moments uwu wholesome
francois sometime in the 1880s makes a habit of obnoxiously dropping by ludwig's dance lessons (poor baby is terrible. two left feet.) so he and gilbert can "demonstrate properly" which really just ends with them waltzing around the room far too intensely for like an hour while ludwig wants to melt into his shoes from embarrassment
okay one prufra thing i think about a lot is that gilbert has a very weird, deadpan, off-putting sense of humor and françois just gets it. gilbert fixes someone with that wall-eyed autism stare and says something outrageous like he’s really serious. and françois just goes to pieces from laughter and is still giggling an hour later.

I was thinking about frapru and realized France killing almost everyone Prussia holds dear (Knights Templar and HRE) is kinda possessive admirer/boyfriend behavior. Like it can't be just a coincidence
Hahahaha, yeah...
It's such a fascinating historical and personal dynamic. The Templars being executed was part of the impetus for the Teutonic Knights to get Serious as an occupation-coloniser-force and actually become something of a functional state (as much as that was a concept in that era, of course) and I can't help but think of the echoes that had on both Gilbert and his eventual dynamic with Francis.
It's about Francis throwing his weight around as an imperial power, and the backwater on the edge of Europe rising to rival him, seemingly from nowhere. Francis kills Holy Rome and it's more of a formaility at that point, like putting down an old sick dog, but it's also clearing the stage to set it for the inevitable showdown between proper, fully-fledged nation-states and their wars of dominion.
After Francis disassembles him Gilbert comes back and he's reforged himself into the perfect enemy and he reforges the entity that Francis killed and then Francis tries to kill that as well, and it becomes The War To End All Wars and quite honestly I don't really think it could have gone any other way.
The unmoveable object of French power meeting the unstoppable force of Prussia's upward trajectory until all that's left is ashes. And I think that forms the underline of their relationship: the mutual obsession, the rivalry that was made inevitable by Francis' imperial nature and Gilbert's existential drive to escape the flames and the impossible mortal gravitational spiral they locked themselves into.
the appeal of frapru to me is grounded in their narrative dynamic of the imperious golden sun prince finding the wretched boy-knight of the monastic order a cute, but ultimately irrelevant, curiousity on the very frontier of Christendom and then centuries later finding himself with a bloodied nose at Rossbach, equal parts horrified and fascinated when it turns out that boy-knight has reforged himself again and again into something resembling a kingdom and, more importantly, an honest to god rival to him. therein lies the key narrative tension and I find it just endlessly delicious.
just remembered that prussia gets sleepy when he's drunk. do u think he likes having his hair played with when he's sleepy. do you think france plays with his hair when he's sleepy. do you think that prussia craves physical intimacy with his friends. and do you think france craves the same. do you thi
I know with absolute certainty in my heart that Gil, despite being very much fluent in French, would pronounce hors d'oeuvre as "horse divorce" specifically to make Fran physically try to kill him. this is enrichment for them both.
yeah it went a bit like this, I think
back to my silly stupid self indulgent omegaverse AU of Francis and his three wives lol
He got chewed like a dog toy that night (Its like any other night but Antonio finally find out how can Francis tore his skin so easily)
