[ A Different Kind of Monster ]
The Legion was defeated and the Black Harvest retreated back to their research. Katwynne retreated back to Surwich from Stormwind, knowing that the presence of her kind would only be tolerated for so long before fresh accusations of witchcraft and demonic activity were waved around. It was nothing new. The tides of war mustered and rallied support of any that could help, and once peace was once again found, it would all be but forgotten. The Legion may have been vanquished for now, but that didnât mean her research stopped. Fel would always exist. The Void would always exist.
It was peaceful at the Boudreaux estate⊠or it was until a different kind of monster roared. A smile graced her features, however, and Katwynne rose from where she had been reading. She hadnât invited him inside yet, wrestling with herself for what it would mean if she did, but her mind seemed made up that day.
She laughed softly to herself when she noticed the contraption rumbling just outside. âWhat is this death trap youâve brought to my doorstep?â she asked, trying to sound stern, but not selling it very well. She drew closer to the towering elf, glad she had been wearing light leathers that day. Once she was close enough, she felt him grab her forearm and pull her closer until she climbed on to the bike behind him. Her slender arms were strong as they wrapped around him tightly.
âTake me somewhere else, Xilarian.â Part of her was terrified of this thing blowing up, but she loved the thrill. And perhaps all the more because of the raven haired sinâdorei in her embrace. He felt warm, and the fel no longer radiated as strongly as it had before. She smiled to herself, glad he couldnât see and give her that shit-eating grin of his that made her knees weak. Each was an oddity in their own right, and she found comfort in that. They got along in this inexplicably push and pull sort of way, and she wanted more. She didnât want to be the first to budge in this little dance of theirs, but she felt her defenses begin to crumble more each day.

[ Retirement ]
Tagging: @katwynne ( @aquaba )
His was a journey that had started nearly a century ago and spanned across an entire universe through the turmoil of a difficult childhood, the bargaining of a mad prince and the treason of those they had served. The threat of the Legion had soured the savory satisfaction of freedom and left in its stead an insatiable lust for demonic blood. Everything had come at a price. In this case, one he had thought would be the end of him. The scars littered across his body bared testament to the fact that it nearly had been the end of him.
âYour hands are filthy.â
The fel in his eyes flashed briefly as his gaze flickered towards the young boy hovering over his shoulder. âSometimes your hands have to get a bit dirty, kid.â
Even after all this time the novelty of his presence in Katwynneâs manor had not worn off. The woman had never invited him, but she had not told him to leave either. Thus, Xilarian had made himself at home. He had made it a habit to hide in the shadows in wait only to rush her whenever she wandered by. Very rarely did he escape without the imprint of her hand burning brightly on his cheek and a cocky smile on his lips. As the days dragged by and the fel in his veins waned, he found himself allowing to relish his newfound happiness.
"What now?â
It had been a question the elf had been asking himself ever since Argus had been defeated. Without the looming menace of the Legion the bonds of friendship he had formed with the death knight and his workers had dissolved. He had sulked and he had mourned for what he had lost, but he did not linger in it. As he reached for the throttle he knew the road ahead was not one shrouded in darkness, nor a path leading to an early grave.
The roar from the bikeâs engine thundered across the distance, causing the manor itself to tremble.
Come, Kat. He revved the engine once more, certain the cacophony would summon her. Perhaps today would be the day he would tell her what she already knew: it was more than just fondness. They were just three simple words, the very words he had once come close to speaking. It terrified him. He who had once defied the fallen Titan and struck the Unmaker down was terrified of a woman half his size.
At the sight of the witch he hollered, âget your ass here!â
For the first time in his life, tomorrow brought not the bitter chill of death but the wonder of a life lucky enough to start anew. If he didnât muster the courage to tell her today there was always tomorrow or the day after that.
Retirement suited him well.

Rude.
A single ear flickered and shifted towards the back of the room before he turned to glance over his shoulder. He could almost hear the faint giggling of the trio responsible for his new look. Once he was certain the squadron had not followed him there, he untied the ribbon in his hair, tussled his locks and promptly pulled the vest over his head. The medals strapped upon it clanked as they hit the ground.
âWouldnât be the first time Iâm wrong.â He seemed a bit more at ease now that he was shirtless. With the smooth side of one of his claws he traced her jawline. A crooked smile appeared and he pulled his hand away before she swiped at it. âMaybe I just wanted to give you proof Allan did keep me alive. Or maybe, I just wanted to see you.â He gave a shrug before rising and wandering about the room.
He looked to her. âYou said you wanted to learn more about demons, I think. Ask away.â
Katwynne was aware of the additional presence of people on her property, but as they had come with Xilarian, she thought perhaps they were harmless. They kept their distance enough to refrain from being seen or heardâ at least by her.
She laughed softly when she watched him take his onyx mane down and removed his shirt. There he is. When he traced her jaw, Katwynne smirked, but it was a brief moment. âGood. Iâm glad he kept you alive,â she said, watching him stand up and wander off. He easily towered over her, even when she stood to her full height on her tippy toes. When he looked towards her, Katwynne finally rose up from where sheâd been sitting and walked towards him.
âMaybe I wanted to see you again,â she said, tilting her head a little and bringing her gold-green eyes up to meet his fiery fel gaze. It was true, she did want to learn more about demons, but academic questions could wait. He was there, in the flesh, and she would be lying if she didnât spend time trying to track him down, keeping late hours and keeping her eyes and ears peeled for any news. She stood directly in front of him, fearlessly looking up and motioning with her finger for him to come just a little closer.

A small crystal sphere had caught the Illidariâs attention while the woman spoke. He had wondered over, eyes wide with curiosity to pick it up. It had been in his hand a mere moment before it slipped through his claws and shattered into Light-only-knows-how-many pieces. The hairs at the back of his neck stood as he waited for whatever demon she had captured inside to come out. Already his lips had twisted into a snarl when he heard her.
âHuh?â He brushed his foot against the shattered pieces hoping to hide them before she noticed.Â
All she had to do was call and he bent to her whim. He moved closer, one hand falling to her hip while the other rest against his own. This felt quite familiar, he thought. âThat would imply you missed me,â he chuckled. âHard to think Kat would miss anyone let alone me.â
@xilarian:
Death had been pacing in the very edge of his thoughts, sauntering across the shadows only to make itself known at the worst moments. With a faint grunt he pushed the thoughts away and sauntered his way down the entryway. He had been there only once before but he still remembered the general layout.
âNothing,â those burning embers narrowed slightly before he made a sharp left and made himself comfortable on the lounge. âFigured youâd want to know when it was done.â
A lie.
It was only a matter of time before the Legion died out. He wasnât even certain what would happen once the very last demon had died out. When it came down to it, he had never paid much attention to the training the Illidari had given him. The more he thought about it the more convinced he grew that not even they knew what would happen. Some sort of starvation, perhaps? He huffed out his annoyance. Perhaps demon meat would be easy to preserveâŠ
âThe time will come when you wonât be able to pull demons out of those portals you open up.â
Katwynneâs gold-green hues eyed him carefully. Surely he would know that she was well aware of the happenings in Argus. As part of the Black Harvest, she was privy to much information and had access to portals and demonic gateways that only few could fathom. There had to some something more, but she didnât strain herself thinking about it overmuch. She was simply glad he was alright, and that he was there although she wouldnât admit it.
She followed him, delicate steps making little to no noise as Katwynne walked over and sat on the edge of the couch which Xilarian occupied the majority of the space.
âYou sound so very sure of that, my dear. Demons come from many places and in many forms, as you know. They can never truly be eradicated,â she said, her voice smooth and velvety. âThe Legion may disappear, yes. And they may be the largest source of demonic corruption, but they are not the only source of demons.â Katwynne sensed the uneasiness in Xilarian, though she couldnât quite place a finger on it. Tucking a few strands of raven hair behind her ear, she canted her head to the side.
âIs that why you have come?â
A single ear flickered and shifted towards the back of the room before he turned to glance over his shoulder. He could almost hear the faint giggling of the trio responsible for his new look. Once he was certain the squadron had not followed him there, he untied the ribbon in his hair, tussled his locks and promptly pulled the vest over his head. Or maybe, I just wanted to see you.â He gave a shrug before rising and wandering about the room.
He looked to her. âYou said you wanted to learn more about demons, I think. Ask away.â
Xilarian hesitated before he knocked on the door. That wild onyx mane of his had been tied into a neat ponytail. His armor had been pressed, polished and primed to match the medals he had been awarded. He looked far too presentable for his own doing but there were a few signs of battle here and there; scars that hadn't full healed, dark bruises and a cast on his arm. "Kat," he called out.
The door cracked open and the sorceress peered at the man for a few moments before opening the door completely and letting him in. âWell⊠look at what the cat licked clean and then dragged in,â she said with a smile that was somewhere between playful and fond.
Even black and blue and with what looked to be a broken arm, Xilarian looked impossibly handsome, and Katwynne both loved it and hated it. She didnât want to be drawn to him. It made her feel things, and she had always prided herself on being as cool and aloof as a black widow spider. Still, she was glad that he came by, and seeing him alive and well took a strain from her heart and mind.
âWhat brings you to darken my doorway?â she asked with a small smirk, closing the door behind them once Xilarian was inside.

[ Resolve ]
-- Whatâs to become of us once this is all said and done?
From the moment he had bound his soul to his demonâs, Xilarian had but one goal: eradicate the Burning Legion. It had been a lifetime since he had begun to sharpen his body into a weapon with the same corrupted magic of their enemy. With each milestone there came a gruesome reminder of the path he had chosen to take. First it had been the horns then the scales, followed by the fel scars littered across his body and a plethora of other tokens. He was less sinâdorei and more demon, the monster he had sought to destroy.
âYouâve been awfully quiet, handsome.â
Xilarian had been sitting at the outskirts of the group, hunched over the grisly corpse of his latest kill. With blood dripping from his chin and bits of flesh stuck to his beard he looked more like a wild animal than a respectable soldier of the Horde. âNothing.â
âI see.âÂ
In the past few weeks the guild had learned much about the brute demon hunter that had landed at their doorstep. An unruly cat, is what the death knight had called him, when the elf had snapped at several in the group. He was vindictive, that much was made clear when he dropped the carcass of a inquisitor on top of the warlock that had mentioned he didnât like the Illidari.Â
But amidst the antics of a man hell-bent on sabotaging every relationship they had seen glimpses of someone worth keeping. He was terribly protective of the group, even the warlock, and would not hesitate to square off against any that dared harm them. Despite his hardened demeanor the demon hunter had a wicked sense of humor and was quick to burst out an irresistible, thunderous laugh. He had also proven to have quite a sweet tooth, was capable of sniffing out any donut in a fifty yard radius and promptly made them disappear. Each time he had been caught and each time he would deny even when he still had the crumbs all over his face.
âLiar.â She took a seat next to him, fixing him with a stern stare. âYou look up every time you lie.â
Shit. Heâd been caught.
âJust thinking,â he opted for an abridged version of the truth.
After a long day fighting through the demonic horde in Antorus, Xilarian had allowed his vision to fade to darkness. Still he could see the flickers of magic that marked where each of his companions stood. He wiped at his lips to hide the smile that appeared when he noticed they had crept closer. Even if a few of them had grumbled their distaste of the Illidari, the group had welcomed him from the very start.
âI suppose itâs exciting to be so close to the start of your vacation, no?â
Xilarian didnât answer. Standing in the shadow cast by the last Legionâs bastion he couldnât help but feel a small crack in his resolve. The Legion had to be purged but was he destined to go down with them? How cruel of fate to hand him hope just before crushing the life out of him.

Le Grand Grimoire de Cthulhu by MilleCuirs
A bloody grimoire was left at the front door with a crudely folded now resting upon it and a note that read "Happy Winter Veil, Kat."
Katwynne felt something strange and opened the door to find the grimoire and the note. She reached for the pendant around her neck instinctively upon reading the note, her first thoughts going out to Xilarian. It had been quite a while since sheâd last heard of the demon hunter.
âWinter Veil⊠Well thatâs something I havenât thought of in ages,â she said to herself. She didnât see the point in celebrating it. It was a holiday for children, and surely not serious sorceresses like her⊠right? Besides, itâs not like she had family or friends to celebrate with. Her cousin was much too busy working in Dalaran, and the people she was acquainted with were scattered around the globe. Her eyes narrowed a little as she studied the grimoire. It had dried blood on it, and she wondered what could possibly be in it. Though she suspected who it might be from, she wondered if she was right.
âHappy Winter Veil, Xil. Perhaps if I could see you, I could give you something in return,â she said, speaking to the pendant and smiling to herself.
@xilarian
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Kat." The demon hunter took a seat on the carcass of the Inquisitor he had slain a few hours earlier.
"You can't just leave demon corpses lying around the Vindicaar! Get this out now!"
Xilarian turned to thedraenei and hissed.
