I was switched off like a light, a fighter with no fight. Staring up at the stars I'd given into the dark. Burned out like a match, at the low end of the crash.The moon glowed like a scar. How did things go so far? Melanie Atwood. 18. Junior.

“Are you sure? I feel terrible. Is there anything i can do to help or anything at all?” She asked,looking over the girl for any minor injuries. “I really am sorry again.” She apologized. “Let me help you up.” She stood up and held out a hand.

“I’m positive. I have a tendency to be clumsy or not pay attention when I’m rushing or preoccupied. Happens all the time. If I didn’t fall over your stuff, I probably would have tripped over my own two feet at some point anyways,” she explained, taking the offered hand to help her up so the other girl could feel better. “I’m all good. No harm done besides my pride, but that’s always getting bruised.”

His eyes narrowed a bit, “how fun can a game be if all you do is teleport around?”

“Well the story is, you are a test subject in a lab and the first few levels, you are doing tests and learning how to use the portal gun. Then when the main computer tries to kill you, you escape and are on the hunt to destroy the main computer through the underbelly of the lab. It’s fun figuring out the story and what is happening and learning the portals. You can pretty much fly with them.”

His brows instantly furrowed as his expression shifted to one of confused astonishment. “I don’t even know what Portal is. What is that? Some science thing?”

“It’s an awesome video game that uses science, though not exact, and you can create portals - hence the name - to teleport.”

“Just curious about how lame I am. I mean, I already knew my lameness was pretty high up there, but it just keeps growing every day.”

“Oh - thanks.” she said almost slipping, she was leaning back to fall back on to the roof but she was lucky to feel a hand on her wrist which also helped.

“Of course. I couldn’t let you bust your head open. Then I’d feel all guilty and have to call an ambulance... Blah blah blah.”

Dominic had been gone for the past week, having to deal a few things in the modeling industry that he absolutely couldn’t get out of. “Alright, let’s make a deal.” He begun, slapping his hand down onto the table before sitting down. “You don’t ask me where I’ve been the past week and I won’t ask why you’re wearing that ridiculous t-shirt.”

Melanie looked up at the guy, then down at her shirt. “What’s wrong with my shirt? Who doesn’t love Portal?” she argued, offended that he found the shirt ridiculous.

Nat pondered that for a moment before replying, “Your right, it would be a waste of chocolate. I’d rather eat it then waste it on an essay.” She smirked, “I do my best, not easy being me you know.” She joked sending her a wink.

“Exactly.  And I don’t entirely trust you wouldn’t steal from my candy stash to do so and completely waste it,” she teased her with a smile. “Of course not. We’re both too awesome. It’s like they put all the awesome in one dorm together when they roomed us.”

“I have no idea but, it never hurts to ask right?” he shrugged. “Do you know anyone who has actually had to deal with that? Survivors guilt, I mean:

“No, but I figured everyone else would find their source material from books, maybe a documentary and I figured it would be more interesting and fun for me to discuss a video game.”

But you should. That’s what she wanted to say, but she was too chicken. She also couldn’t say how much she loved him or missed him or anything else really. She couldn’t just ask for him back. “I know. I just didn’t think I was ever coming back here and things were hard back home with my dad and all. I wasn’t being a very good girlfriend to you,” she explained, making up excuses that were only slightly true.

“How many times have we been over this? They aren’t ogling me, they’re either jealous or impressed that a girl can be so kickass and strong. Huge difference,” she stated, swatting his arm.

“Yeah finally, i’m really proud of him and the man he has become. Though he and I really haven’t hung out just the two of us in a long time. I feel like we’ve drifted apart and only talk when it comes to Julian but i guess that’s alright.” she shrugged. “You are always more than welcome to babysit. Aww i want pictures.”

“You guys should hang out some. I mean, you’re going to be in each other’s lives forever now, so you need to have a strong friendship. At least for Julian. You don’t want to be the type of parents for him where you can’t even stand to be in the same room together or something,” she pointed out, giving her opinion. “I feel like I’m one of the very few both of you can agree on being a babysitter for him. I mean I’m awesome and you both adore me. I’ll show you them later. My phone’s dead right now.”

“I have no idea what that is,” she reached her hand into the bag of gummy worms, putting one between her teeth before leaning back in her chair and looking back to Melanie with a shrug. “Just wear a shirt that shows of your boobs and he’ll agree to anything. That’s all you ever need to know about psychology. Boobs equal power.”

“Until Dawn is a fantastic video game where your choices determine the outcome. You can get everyone killed or keep them all alive or kill some and keep some alive,” she explained vaguely. “I don’t know how I feel about using my boobs on a teacher... And it’s also a woman who I’m pretty sure is married to a man, so I doubt it would work.”

“ It’s understandable why you’re confusing me with him, but I’m not liam,”  he broke the hug, figuring she probably wouldn’t want to hug a stranger. “I’m sure he will welcome you with cookies though.”

She was confused at his words. “What? Is this some sort of prank? Is this payback for the time I put mayo in your shoes? I apologized for that!” she explained, still not quite believing it wasn’t Liam.

“Oh then we definitely never met. I’m very memorable. I’m slightly crazy, but in the best way possible,’ she bragged with a smile of her own. “Nice to meet you as well.”

“I’d like to just say I’m very mad at you.” He said running a hand through his hair. “I had no clues as to what’s going on with you, and that drove me crazy too.” and not even in the mentally way.

“Yeah, I kind of expected that,” she admitted, scooting her chair a bit closer to his table, but not much. She didn’t want to crowd him. That wasn’t her place any more. She wasn’t worthy of him. She had betrayed him after all. Or did she? “I’m sorry about all of that. You can hate me forever if you want. I wouldn’t blame you,” she said, even though she didn’t even offer an excuse. How was she supposed to explain what happened?
