@xoxgretta
Hi there, Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for following me. It's a pleasure to meet people from all over the world who enjoy this crazy Tumblr universe and Richard & his characters. So much more to look forward to in 2015 - Urban & the Shed Crew, Sleepwalker, maybe a little peek at Alice in Wonderland, Hannibal, Pilgrimage, the BOFA EE ... and whatever surprises he has in store ;-) If there's ever anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to let me know. Cheers, Alana :-D
You're quite welcome! I actually came across your FFs on AO3 and then went on RA's tag on Tumblr and stumbled upon your blog! :) Funny how things work out. I'm slowly making my way through his works... Any suggestions as per favourites?!
1. When he starts distancing himself from you, do not restring bridges with your own sinew. You will find yourself two months later coming unraveled, coming undone. You will find he has left you in the places he has visited and in the hair of the girls he has imagined kissing. You will find yourself splatterpainted on the walls where while drunk he confessed all of your secrets to his college friends. You will be crying on the floor, surrounded by the parts of you he has stepped on, and he will look you in the eyes and ask you to clean up the mess. 2. When she cannot get through the words “I love you” without her eyes flicking to the side or her tongue slurring or her mouth pressing in at the edges: do not assume it is your fault. Do not think that you have yet again pushed away someone amazing. You have not. Sometimes people knock on their bones and find themselves hollow. You were the only way they felt momentarily whole, do not empty yourself to fill up their soul. Do not shatter into pieces trying to perfect yourself. You do not need to be glass to turn light into rainbows. You are a person, not their prism. 3. Do not let them hold you against their body if you know they do not cherish every second they are in contact with your skin. I know it feels as if you are breaking your own spine, but tear yourself away from them. Know that the something beautiful you had was already fading. Know that in the end you did the only thing you could. Sometimes people grow apart. Even trees do it. 4. Cry. Want them back. 5. Cry. Do not take them back. 6. In the following months, you will rediscover what it means to be alone. You will sit and stare at a ceiling and hate yourself and hate the world and cry about everything because everything hurts. You will wonder if it could have gotten better if you’d just been a little different, if the timing had worked out, if if if. Do not worry about this. Nothing would have changed the reality that the person you were in love with had stopped loving you somewhere along the line, whether it was in the middle of a conversation or while driving under a bridge or when they made eye contact with someone new and wonderful. It doesn’t matter. Stop wasting your time on them. You don’t need to stop your story just because they are no longer a main character. Do not take back what has already poisoned you. Instead start healing and start healing soon. 7. Take yourself back. Bring out the mop, the broom, the magic wand. Glue where needs to be glued, put up new paint, turn off the lights in places that are too hot to touch. Touch your toes. Touch your hair. Touch a dog. Touch the grass, touch the telephone, do not call him. Touch base with your mom. Touch another person with no love in your heart, touch another person and mean every second of it. Believe in yourself even if you don’t believe in love. It’s okay. There is nothing wrong with being alone. You are the best company you’ll ever know. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re gonna be okay and none of this was ever your fault. Sometimes people just fall out of love. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’ll one day discover you didn’t need them anyway.

#MondayMustHaves Conference week: Day 2 I don’t know about you but Conference this week is going to be CRAAAAAAAY. In the best way possible, of course! I started prepping for the things I needed for the next couple of days and I have to say, these are especially useful for us gals! If a few men want to participate, that’s cool, too! Here’s the basics of my MUST HAVE items during Conference week! The NO OTHER NAME bracelet It’s black and white. It’s classy. It’s chic. And… It’s also your pass of entry to Hillsong Conference NYC! Bracelet owners/wearers/holders: Don’t forget these! Don’t lose them and treat them as you would the most precious possession you own. The Bible I’ve read many versions and own a few different ones but still, I’m a New King James Version type of gal. I know the bible app is useful on our phones nowadays, but there’s still something about flipping the pages of a book. This trusty book has been in my possession for nearly 10 years now and it was given by my best friend and her Mum (who’s really a second Mum to me). I love it still and it’s my go-to in every study/devotional/fellowship. What’s your favourite version to read? Journal Taking notes is my favourite. My new journal (thanks DUNE ) has already been filled with some amazing things these past few weeks. I can’t wait to write my conference notes in this! Also, be prepared to have more than one pen – 8 sessions to take notes from! Devotional No matter how busy things may get, my Undaunted devotional by Christine Caine always sneaks its way in. It’s a breath of fresh air! What’s your current devotional? What’s a devotional you want to start? Q&A journal This was a gift given by the bestie (courtesy of Anthropologie) and it’s so fun. It’s a 5 year journal with a question/statement for 365 days. The cool thing is that it also serves as a time capsule in which you can see the progress and variation of what you’ve written down throughout the years. I’ve got to write my answers during conference days while it’s still fresh! Bookmark I know, I know. Bookmarks are a thing of the past in this advanced society we live in. But you know what? I still like books. I still like writing. I still like notebooks. As I will be carrying 3 different “books”, I need a bookmark. Also, it’s such a nice one from The Frick Collection. This one is St. Francis of Assisi. Charger We’ve all been a victim of the dreaded red bar on our phones. What’s even worse is that if we left our chargers at home while we’re running with 1% left for the rest of the day! Have no fear and remember your wire and charger! Invest in a cheaper alternative: this set cost me $5 from Target. It’s going to be a long day and our phones will be used more frequent than usual, so carry these! Phone Now, it wouldn’t make sense if you remembered your wire and charger but forgot your phone, would it? Your phone will be your access to the hashtags during conference, the apps you need, communicating with friends via messaging or social media, looking for the nearest coffee shop, etc. Our phones have become our lifeline these days. However, during conference week, I challenge you to use your phone in something productive and substantial. See that stranger sitting near you during conference? Ask for their name. Ask for their twitter/Instagram/Facebook, etc. Engage in a conversation. You’re there because you both have something in common (Jesus), so why not make a friend? Wallet In recent days, I’ve preferred to use this card/cash/key holder. It’s very convenient and it’s easy access to everything. More essentials in it are: • Metrocard (for those of us who live the commuting life) • Cash (because some only accept cash when you need a cab or a quick bite to eat or purchase some merch) • Credit/debit cards (when you feel like splurging & being generous in covering someone’s meal) • Discount cards (everything in NYC seem to have some cash back/rewards system going on) • ID (just because… And also, I still get carded!) iPod & earphones I like to pump myself up whenever I’m going somewhere. As a music lover, my iPod has been a place of solace. During conference week, make a playlist that will get you pumped up on the way! Waterproof cosmetics Rimmel’s scandalous waterproof eyeliner and mascara are a must for me this week! I know I’ll get emotional, laugh in tears, cry in tears… You know how it is. Hand sanitizer You’ll be needing this for the many hands you will shake. I recommend using the regular hand sanitizer and not the scented ones. Why? The scented ones leave my hands sticky and it just feels dirtier. Ew. Another tip: save these little containers once you’ve finished the original content and then wash it to refill with regular hand sanitizer. Lotion As Autumn and the cold are upon us, dry skin is also upon us. As mentioned above, using hand sanitizer excessively will probably result in dry skin, so lotion/moisturizer are wise to have on hand. This scent is stunning for the Autumn season, by the way. Lip balm My new favourite, EOS in honeydew, hits the top spot in the lip balm department. All of the talking and singing you will do, dry lips will be inevitable. Do yourself a favour and moisturize. Gum You’ll be out all day. You’re going to be eating different things. You’re going to face a lot of people. Fresh breath (though temporarily) is a plus. Perfume Autumn in NYC is very extreme on both sides of polarity. One day it’s really warm. The next day, it’s really chilly. OR both can occur in one day! Just spray a little of your favourite scent (mine is Gucci Guilty, very warm with a hint of musk that’s perfect for Autumn) & bring it along with you for spritzing throughout the day! Sunnies Whether you’re fighting off the glare of the sun or hiding behind raccoon eyes during worship, Sunnies are a great accessory to have. And of course, where would I carry all these things?! My Purse This Lulu purse serves an all purpose for me. It can store what I need and more. In addition to what I’ve shown above, I’ll probably add some snacks, a water bottle, and an umbrella! Enjoy packing and prepping for conference, friends! - M
#SettingTheToneSunday
Conference week: Day 1
It’s #ConferenceWeek and how appropriate that I started it with (an almost) #NoSleepTillConference.
I thought I would blog every day during Conference Week with a variety of things on my mind and the experience in which I will partake… And yes, there will be LOADS of hashtags in this week’s posts. LOL
Back to the topic at hand… I started Sunday with just an hour and a half of sleep. I didn’t mean to. The day before was full and as busy and tiring as it was, my body just couldn’t find rest. I tried it all: listening to soothing music, closing my eyes shut, counting sheep… Nothing seemed to work. However, I still managed to wake up at a good hour and make it to the 10 AM, despite commuting detours.
When I arrived, I saw a friend who’s had a recent change in lifestyle and I related to that. We talked for a bit and as the service neared, I grabbed a seat.
Listen, I like going to church early. I’m a morning person. On top of that, I also like getting seats on the main floor. Why? I’m not being greedy… I have a fear of heights. I like to sit in the center, in the middle, and on an aisle seat. If I was seated elsewhere, it means I was with friends and I’m just indulging them or those seats were the only ones available.
The view I had was great and I sat next to a couple who were visiting from The Dominican Republic. It always gives me great joy to see married couples worshipping together. Like, that’s the way it should be!
Anyways, this particular video was shown (as it had been for the past few weeks pumping us up for Conference) and I was moved more than I usually was.
I felt like I was going to start bawling and my head would explode because I’m just so excited for conference. Here! In NYC!!! The anticipation is giving me butterflies of the best kind and I’m so privileged to be present… And to be a part of this movement. One thing that always caught my attention was this phrase by Pastor Louie Giglio: “The local church helps lost people get found and found people grow up… I’m going to pursue the greatest dream [I know] on earth and that is to build the local church.” I don’t know about you but that gave me chills for days… And when I think about it, I’ve had that dream in my heart for as far as I’ve been aware of who God is and what He is all about. It’s so difficult for me to see straight ahead when I’m in a rough season right now. It looks like I’m in a valley that would turn into a plateau any second and my mountain is nowhere in sight.
That’s where the message entered. We’ve had the privilege of having Pastor Chad Veach preach a number of times at church. I find that his teaching leans more in an evangelistic method and I appreciate that… Even as a “seasoned” believer. I feel like I need to get saved after every message I hear. Instantly.
In this particular message titled “It just gets better and better”, Pastor Chad highlights the blessing in walking life with Jesus. One of the main focal points that struck me was this: The blessing is not in hearing God’s voice. The blessing is in obeying God’s voice. As a side note, my 3rd favourite worship leader, Nathan Finochio led worship. I remembered him mentioning a few years ago, “Delayed obedience is not obedience.” That absolutely ties in with what Pastor Chad said. Upon hearing God’s voice when I actually listened, several more points Pastor Chad shared struck a chord. AGAIN. • God will use what you’re good at. • God is taking your passion and purpose to use you. • God is training who you are supposed to be. • You’ve got to be faithful, obedient, and stay in your lane and your grace.
So, how do these things apply to me? • What am I good at? I’m good at writing. I’m good at connecting with people. This is why I blog and try to maintain a social media presence (very vital in our generation). • My passion has always taken its form in writing. God is slowly using me to take this platform to share His Word and the other things that revolves around Him (which is, y’know, everything). • Who am I supposed to be? I don’t know… But I do know that by staying with God, I know who I already am (see Psalm 139 and Proverbs 31). • I need to be more faithful. Most times, I feel like the cheating girlfriend because I don’t want to commit. At least, it’s not like the cheating wife in which I’ve made the commitment and I don’t want to see it through. I need to be more obedient. Oftentimes, I make decisions that aren’t bad. But I know God is telling me not to go through with those decisions… Still, I want to make the obscure decision to compensate with, “God will forgive me. It’s called grace.” Staying in my lane is easy. Staying in grace? Not so easy. I need some carving… Some shaping up. We all need some carving, friends.
I just thought that Sunday’s message set the tone for Conference Week.
The anticipation is at an all time high, excited doesn’t even cover it AT ALL… but Calvary, does. 😁
Happy Conference Week, friends…

this is the saddest thing i have ever seen
"He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on the solid ground and steadied me as I walked along" (Psalm 40:2, NLT)
Do you feel like you are in a pit today? That pit can be frustration or disappointment or a feeling of discouragement, despair, or hopelessness. And maybe you can’t see a way out, but you’ve got to know that God is still with you, and He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Remember, God will never waste anything you go through in life. If you’ll keep the right attitude, He’ll turn that situation around for your good. It doesn’t matter how you got there, whether it was by your own poor choices or maybe someone else treated you unfairly, God wants to use that situation to do a work in you. He’ll take that evil and turn it around for your good. You may be uncomfortable at times, but you’ve got to know you are growing, and God is building your character.
Today, make the decision to shake off any negative, self-defeating mindsets. Choose to cooperate with God. Trust that He is preparing you for promotion. As you keep an attitude of faith, expectancy, and thanksgiving, He will lift you up and set you on the solid path of victory He has in store for you!
PLEASE Share this!!! WRITTEN BY A COP: Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one’s life. In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation… This is for you, and for you to share with your wife, your children, & everyone you know. After reading these 9 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in. 1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do! 2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you… Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! 3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver won’t see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives. 4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location. 5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: A.) Be aware:look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor , and in the back seat. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.) 6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!) 7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern! 8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked ‘for help’ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim. 9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.. The police told her ‘Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..’ The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, ‘We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’ He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby’s cries outside their doors when they’re home alone at night. 10. Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full blast so that you will go out to investigate and then attack. Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors! Please pass this on This post should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America ‘s Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana I’d like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well. Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better to be safe than sorry.. Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one’s life.
I’m putting this to all my followers not just female…
Be safe everyone
Because men suffer for beauty, too.
Obligatory post since writer's block has been broken.

First baby born after full genetic screening of embryos - life - 08 July 2013 - New Scientist
Connor, a healthy baby boy, has made history. He is the first child to be born after his parents had the entire genomes of a batch of their IVF embryos screened for abnormalities, with the intention of picking the healthiest for implantation.
The technique could increase the number of successful pregnancies from IVF. And although the researchers stopped short of actually sequencing the boy’s genome, the advance is proof that this could be done – potentially ushering in an era of designer babies.
I made this blog because a photo of my husband and I has gone viral on the internet. I wanted to share the story behind the photo for the hundreds of thousands of people who found inspiration through this sweet moment we had.
The Story Behind the Photo
Moments before I was to walk down the aisle my soon to be mother in law came in the dressing room where my bridesmaids and I were all gushing with giggles and fluttering about finishing last minute details.
“Sweetheart, your groom has called for you!”.
In a nervous tizzy I said, “What?! I’m not ready! I have to get my shoes and…” She had already taken my hand and led me to a corner, where my groom was waiting. I barely sat down; I was filled with so much anticipation! So much excitement! So many nerves!
“Is he going to like my dress? Does my hair look pretty? Can he see me?!”
Right around the corner sat my soon to be husband, I so was nervous he might see me yet secretly hoping to catch a glimpse of him. In my excited state I was the first to speak,
“Hi sweetie! We’re getting married today!”
“I know baby and I want to pray with you before we do.”
There we sat around the corner hand in hand, and together we bowed our heads. People were rushing about; the wedding coordinator directing people here and there, the photographers snapping photos and the bridal party enjoying each others company. Yet in that moment, in the quietness of our hearts and minds, my husband and I were alone in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
My husband prayed that God would bless our marriage, that through thick or thin together we would never lose hope in one another. That instead of focusing on each others imperfections we would always rely on Christ’s perfection. That we would wake up every day and chose to love one another not through our own strength but by the power of Christ’s perfect love.
With our hands clenched tightly to one another together we said “Amen”, both with shaky voice and just like that I was whisked away to blot the tears off my face and put on my veil.
After my bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law and every other girl in the room had finished zipping, curling, tucking and blushing me up I looked in the mirror. There I stood wearing my pure white wedding dress, ready to walk down the aisle to my Prince Charming.
See, he is not only my Prince Charming because of his incredibly handsome looks, or wonderful humor, or the fact that we have so much in common. He is my Prince Charming because he helped me protect the most precious gift that I owned, my purity.
Soon after we had started dating I nervously told my Prince that I was a virgin and planned to be until the night of my wedding; to which he replied he would have it no other way.
Throughout our dating relationship and engagement we constantly fought, what at times felt like a losing battle. We fought temptation with prayer, scripture and accountability. I had friends checking up on me if they knew we were together late at night and he regularly met with other Godly men to pray for strength. At times, especially as the wedding grew closer, we thought we were attempting to do the impossible.
“Why are we doing this?” I would ask in my weakness, and he would remind me, that it’s because God had told us too.
“I can’t do it, I can’t… this is too hard!” he would confess to me and I would pray for his strength.
When I walked down the aisle in my white dress, I looked straight into the eyes of the man that had laid himself down to protect and honor the wife that God had given him.
When his eyes first caught mine he looked into the face of the woman that had waited for him, the woman that would support him and love him for the rest of His life, through good times and bad.
I share all of this because in that prayer we prayed, which was captured here on camera we asked the Lord to use our wedding to bring Him all of the glory that He rightfully deserved. We had not gotten where we were by our own strength, but by His hand of protection on our relationship.
God has used this photo to inspire hundreds of thousands of people already and for that we are humbled and honored! I wanted to take it a step further and give God praise and thanks for how we arrived at that quiet corner, holding hands and ready to begin our lives together.

Worth it. For eternity.
SERIOUSLY.
say my name.
It was around this time, on 16th May last year... when you saw me working the line and said my name. In my busy fashion, I didn't hear it the first time. Nor the second time. The third time, you caught my attention. You were wearing a baby blue shirt and smiled as I made my way towards you. You were with a friend.
ME: Hi! Sorry... I didn't hear you calling my name.
HIM: It's ok. :) How's your week?
ME: It's... gotten better.
HIM: That's good to hear.
ME: How was yours?
HIM: It's gotten better, too.
You, your friend, and myself engage in a conversation as I realized I couldn't remember your name. She finally said it in a story she was telling. I was relieved and told myself, "I shan't forget it". So, after 7 weeks of knowing each other... I finally knew your name. :)
