Marauders Era - Ipomea Slughorn/Greengrass // Jessica Stam
Mother of Daphne and Astoria Greengrass
withgutsandglory:
( cormac mclaggen. )
❝Sorry to disappoint, but we see the values of Gryffindor quite differently, in our family…❞ he paused mid-sentence, changing course just a beat later. ❝ actually, no. it’s a bit transparent, is what it is. I mean, think about it, we’re up in the castle towers, while you, malfoy, and all the other snakes are sleeping in the dungeons. the same place sewer rats breed.❞ he laughed with ridicule, maintaining the long standing banter he and Daphne had between each other since their adolescent days. Cormac held zero shame in having house pride. In all honesty, he didn’t see the appeal of Slytherin house, nor any desire for it. Unlike most, Cormac had taken part in the traditional, Gryffindor and Slytherin rivalry, sometimes just for the fun of it. And, given his past with families such as the Greengrass or Malfoy families, Cormac was always able to keep up with their kind. He didn’t think like them. Not even a little. But, he certainly knew how to compete and play ball with the lot. ❝If you ask me, I’d stand by it making sense that the real disappointment’s with those who’ve got the riffraff’s treatment.❞ he hadn’t even begun to fend for himself with the inevitable jab at his latest, humiliating defeat.
Obviously, Cormac had deflected for a reason. ❝Oh, and uh-❞ his face flourished. ❝Clever attempt you tried to pull, there. Pinning the loss to Weasley on me. Was it ‘’doubt’, you were expecting?” he began with a playful poise, declaring his pride standing tall as ever. ❝Not to toot my own horn, but I know for certain that there was no way Weasley had a prayer up against me. But, that’s nepotism, he’s got on his side; with the half a dozen Weasleys’ on the team for years, and Potter taking captain—completely rigged.❞ he glanced up to the Quidditch Pitch, hiding any leftover burn from his failure at tryouts; with the sheer confidence in his tone, that almost made him fully believe what he was spewing. ❝I didn’t see much point in making a fuss… thought, maybe I’d let Weasley learn a thing or two in a trial-by-fire. which, he may come to find much sooner, than later.❞ he was referring to the match happening today, but that was as far as Cormac would go in his ill speaking. ❝There. Got your fix of my current events… satisfying, isn’t it?❞ he added on the snarky remark to go with the icing on the top. Obviously he was joking, but Cormac found amusement in boldly saying something that absurd for the sake of getting a rise.
With her head tilted, Daphne couldn’t help a small laugh, before biting the inside of her cheek — trying to keep a straight face. “Well love, sorry t’disappoint you, but I’m pretty sure Mr and Mrs Mclaggen are lying. You might be up in the tower, but the Dungeons hold a lot of hidden secrets. Perks, if you will. Although I wouldn’t expect you to know,” she shrugged her shoulders at him, still amazed at how he could be so arrogant even when Gryffindor treated him the way it did. From what she heard, he was almost ridiculed by his own housemates. Why defend a house that doesn’t value you? Slytherins stood up for each other, even when they weren’t right; which Cormac was. “In Slytherin we see real talent. We may not always HAVE the best, but you can be bloody sure we will MAKE the best. The ones that see us as riff-raff aren’t worth it, they won’t be with us at the top.”
As much as it was her PRIDE talking above all else, Daphne truly believed her words. In Gryffindor, you settled. You accepted things. Even Ravenclaw with their snotty-arse students strive to be better, but in Gryffindor it was all about being GOOD. But you can’t do any REAL good if you don’t have the guts to do the wrong thing once in a while. Not that Cormac didn’t; they’d been up to no good enough times for her to know he wasn’t as pure-hearted as the red and gold house claimed all it’s members were. But he still settled with Weasley, and she wasn’t very happy about it. “We lost, but we fought. I was there, in a stadium full of people, playing for my house. You? You just lost YOUR spot and did nothing. Where’s all that bravery now, Cormac? Or you gonna tell me that ginger twat is more BRAVE than you are?” She was obviously pissed that they’d lose, but losing to a Weasley definitely rubbed her the wrong way. Losing to Cormac wouldn’t have been a blow. It would have been fair. After all, the Slytherins were already beginning to choose their ALLIANCES; and if Draco was distracted, Daphne and the others weren’t much better.
“Sarcastic as your comment may be, yes, it is quite SATISFACTORY. I like my knowledge fresh and from the source,” the more she knew about Gryffindor’s quidditch team, the better — and it was always good to be able to have a conversation with someone dressed in something other than green and black too, although she’d never admit it. McLaggen was a breath of fresh air. Still, she was a Slytherin; and an injustice like that, when not done by THEM, bugged her. If Gryffindor was so much better, maybe they should act it, for once. “Y’know, I always pegged you as one of us, in a very small way. You’re our friend on the outside, so we leave you out of things. But perhaps you DON’T quite make the cut at all. I mean, I was there at trials, and I don’t know what the hell happened. But you wouldn’t have missed that shot and you SHOULD have been out there, playing that game, instead of weasel-face. Trials by fire or not, you’ve already lost; and you still ain’t done shit about it, love.”
Who are you? Number Six.
“please just don’t.”
THREE-WORD STARTERS ⦙⦙ ACCEPTING
Daphne couldn’t believe her luck. For once, a SLYTHERIN wasn’t in the wrong. For once, she had the upper hand — and much less to lose than precious Amelia. ( Oh, this was almost too good to be true. ) “Then give me one good reason why I shouldn’t, POTTER.”

🎀 — { It had been a good few years since Astoria nearly DROWNED but she was still PETRIFIED of being submerged in water…until recently she HARDLY could stand being in a bathtub - she had to take showers. But she had been working on her FEAR this past summer, ESPECIALLY as her mother had been pressing her to get over it, and so she managed to get into the pool with her elder sister. She was beginning to TENSE up again but being her, she wasn’t going to ADMIT she was scared and she wanted to keep her floaties on anyway so she ARGUED with her about it as if she wasn’t.
❛ It’s nice to know you’d let me DIE for your stupid hair. ❜ }
Daphne could never take it easy on Astoria. It was her duty, as the mean big sister to a wimpy kid, to bully her sister until she got over things. If they lingered on the past, her sister would let fear win; and since CHALLENGING was what the eldest Greengrass did better, why wouldn’t she do it now? “You either drown, or I kill you after my hair is ruined. Which death sounds more pleasant to you, darlin’?”
Kill was too strong a word, perhaps — Daph would really only seriously injure her. Or feed her to the garden gnomes. “I want you to have fun, just don’t bother me whilst at it. Why is that so hard for you to do? Also, are you seriously going to use a floatie? You know how to swim, loser. I taught you. And if you get on your tippy-toes, I bet you a GALLEON they can touch the floor.” Leaning back onto her elbows, Daphne rolled her eyes; a mean-girl smirk gracing her lips. “Or are you too chicken?”

She inhaled deeply, trying her damn hardest to control her anger for the situation. Here she was, giving her heart out to her best friend, possibly coming out to Daphne and Daphne decided now was the time to crack wise. “Can you be serious for once in your bloody life?”
Daphne’s eyebrows shot up curiously, her smile growing bigger before faltering. In the end, her face must have ended up hosting a weird sort-of smirk, as she stared curiously at her best friend. “What does that mean?” Why did Pansy sound almost... mad? “I do take you seriously. Very. I know you like me. You wouldn’t have spent the last decade or so being my best friend if you didn’t. What’s this about?”
You call me an animal, A 𝔪 𝔬 𝔫 𝔰 𝔱 𝔢 𝔯…
Tell me, my dear, do you really want to know if you’re ɾìցհէ?

@xpureallure liked X for a starter
“Welcome, ms. Greengrass,” Neith smiled warmly as she closed the door behind Daphne, “where did you wish to speak to me about?” she asked, kissing both the girl’s cheeks and leading her to the drawing room.
The Zabini manor was MAJESTIC. But then again, so was Neith Zabini herself. “Thank you for having me on such short notice,” Daphne said between kisses, a warm smile playing on her lips. “I truly don’t mean to trouble you long, I’m sure you’re busy, Madam Zabini. But I do have an offer to extend to you from my mother, shall you be available next weekend.”
Harry Potter Character Aesthetics: Daphne Greengrass
Queenie G Theory
In the documentary, Harry Potter and Me, this image was shown of students in Harry’s year at Hogwarts which showed Daphne Greengrass originally named as Queenie Greengrass.
So, Daphne Greengrass’s (Draco’s sister in law) original name was Queenie Greengrass, and now in Fantastic Beasts, we have Queenie Goldstein (notably also with the initials QG). And this was filmed in 2001, the same year she wrote Fantastic Beasts (the book), and started thinking in depth about Newt’s backstory…
So, this could be a coincidence, or Jo could have an obscure connection between the two, maybe a relation or a namesake. This is a bit of a stretch, but maybe Leta Lestrange married into to the Greengrass family (also pureblood and slytherin), and (almost) named her granddaughter after Newt’s friend Queenie… Perhaps they will meet in the next instalment. Thoughts?

Why, Universe, did you decide I was strong enough to handle this?
