Is Essena being real or not?
Im sure you have all seen Essena O'neill pop up somewhere on your feed. Wether its here on facebook, instagram, the telly, youtube, every fucking where basically.
This girl that I used to thank for helping me with the lifestyle I chose to change to and show my family how others are living it and how it is beneficial to them, has now made mad because she was being fake through it all.
It pisses me off how shes making our society seem stupid. Its not rocket science. We all know that social media is fake, superficial, based around aesthetics, based around money. Social media is basically a large company that we are all feeding into. We all are aware of this, we are taught in school about how the internet is a place where we have to be careful on and know its risky. Its not something new to us, we’ve known this for ages.
Essena has grown up on this platform, so good on her for speaking out about how it has consumed her, but not everyone has a bad experience with social media. Its the way you choose to use it that controls you. She is contradicting herself and the only thing that I got off of all of this is that she is being a hypocrite.
“Im quitting social media”, “I won the genetic lottery”, “everything on here you see is fake”. So for one you decide to quit and the way your spreading your message is through the platform your bashing on about, on your website and on something you are against by promoting it on a website thats the exact same as youtube…… Which you’re still making money off. She has even implemented a section asking people to donate money to her so that she could pay her rent.
Essena is smart. She can go out there and get a job or make something out of all of this. So instead of making money from brands that want you, your making money off of your fans cluelessly. Yes she has deleted all of her accounts, but she’s still got a blog and a vimeo account.
I have a massive problem with crowd funding. She is asking everyday people, wether its teens who will probably take that money out of their pocket money to those that have jobs, to send her money when she is very capable of earning it. Quite selfish if you ask me because she is asking her fan base which she has gained from social media to donate to her for a cause….? What is her cause? Because how I see it there is no fucking cause. Is that money gonna go to dying children, or compensate to the meat industry so that they slaughter less animals…. No, it goes into her pockets since she rejected money offers.
She brought herself into this, no one told her to, no one forced her, and no one made her experience this in the way that she did. She knows what she is doing, she is aware of how much buzz she’s getting out of this. And blaming social media for the person you have become is ridiculous because now many young girls and boys will start thinking, “oh everyone is fake then”, “everyone is miserable”. Which is not fucking true because not everyone puts up a front. One major thing that infuriated me is how she took the time to date someone and publicly disclosed how they were depressed with the luxurious life they were living. How can one speak out about a personal issue that is not about them. Once people find out who that guy is, it’ll shame him because i’m sure he hadn’t told many people. It was wrong of her, and I’m 100% sure she fucking well wouldn’t want someone to go around telling people she is depressed if it were her.
This whole situation is bullshit. If you quit, you quit. No need to promote your website,and go on live television and go on interviews about something you are stopping. You want people to be off their phones and off of social media, but you’re the one making them go on it to watch your video, to watch your interviews, and to read your blog posts. Quite ironic isn’t it.
