"That’s understandable," Kaneki began, nodding his head slightly. "You’re still a high schooler, so I don’t think you’d be able to travel very easily right now anyways. But when you get to college, you will probably get a chance to do some exchange programs or something like that!" He laced his fingers together, resting his arms on the table. "When I got to college, there were a lot of programs that offered chances to travel abroad. It’s too bad that I chose a major that doesn’t offer those kinds of programs!" Japanese Literature didn’t have many chances to go abroad, unlike those in the sciences or medicine fields - they had chances to attend conferences that were held in other countries. Japanese literature was much more specialized. "But at least, right now, you got the chance to already explore two countries!"

There were limits to travel while still being in high school, plus with the fact she basically had no money -- and other reasons -- made it impossible for her to travel to the places she longed for. Yet, she couldn't complain, it gave her something to do each day -- besides sitting at home, practising with her throwing knives.

❝Maybe... If I - I even decide to go to college,❞ she replied, fiddling with the charms on her bracelet that sat upon her left wrist. ❝I'm s - still not sure.❞ Most of her best courses weren't something she'd like to invest a career in. She had an interest in weapons, but that wouldn't get her far in life, would it? She'd most likely just finish high school and get a job somewhere else, besides her current one.

❝That's true -- ❞ -- that wasn't true, but she said it was anyway. ❝But someday I'll, hopefully, be able to get to see more than that. And maybe you'll be able to also, Ken.❞

It felt really nice to talk to someone who just didn’t know about him, and Kaneki felt himself really warming up to Freud-san. Though it was rather interesting that Japan wasn’t as frightening to the girl, and Kaneki couldn’t resist asking why. “Ah, why do you say that, Freud-san? Does Lichtenstein have a higher crime rate or something like that?” He laced his fingers together, leaning forward on the table. “It would be so interesting if I could visit, even just to see what it’s like in another country!” Unfortunately, that dream didn’t seem very feasible, Kaneki thought to himself privately. There were so much barriers on ghouls for travelling - those RC scanners were installed at most, if not every airport, barring the non-humans from using the planes. The only real options they had was to find a way to smuggle themselves across the borders, or board a ship to some mainland to just trek across the planet. It really helped keep the ghoul population under check by each country’s own version of the CCG. Kaneki gave a deep sigh, placing a finger on his chin, in deep thought. "I really wish I could travel abroad. Unfortunately, I can’t - it’s just so expensive and I can’t afford it. I’m so jealous!"

⊰ ✿ ⊱ ;; It had been awhile since Nadine was able to have a conversation like this with someone. It was a nice change of pace for once. Most of the conversations she had didn't last long, so it was nice to be able to talk with Ken like this. ❝ Ah, not really. It has a very l - low crime rate... I - I guess what I've seen here just doesn't r - really bother me too much, ❞ she replied, tucking a piece of snow-white hair behind her ear. ❝ I...I'd love to be able to go another country, besides the ones I've already been to, o - of course. ❞

For her, that's like a far off dream: out of reach. Sadly, she was in high school and only worked as a cashier. She had barely enough to cover everything she needed to pay, let alone travelling expenses. Times like these made her wish her uncle was still living... ❝ Mm... I know what you mean. Despite having travelled here f - from my home country, I don't think I'll be able to go anywhere else. A - At least for now, I - I think. ❞
