Summer Samantha (see first post):
I thought a gray crop top was kinda predictable so I went with this tank top - I like the backless detail better. It’s different.
This hairstyle would be a lot easier with short hair, lol... the alter-ego definitely needs a summer hairstyle.
Googled platform sandals and came up with these... does Rocket Dog still manufacture these? I had the tan version in high school! Although they kinda hurt my feet, I like them better than the redesigned “Teva sandals” that’s trendy nowadays... it’s something I don’t understand.
Black denim shorts, ‘cause... what else is there to wear?
I originally went for a metallic silver bathing suit, but chose this option because it’s too cute and the metallic ones look kinda silly, anyway.
I just think a white skirt set is in order for summer. It needed to have straight lines, not frilliness. The frilliness is more for me, not Samantha.
I had a dark gray pair of these in, like, middle school and they remain one of my favorite pairs of sneakers I’ve ever owned. I thought black was too dark for summer, so gray it is. I’ve also fell out of love with white sneakers.
Couldn’t find a pic of the sunglasses with the lavender frames that I actually own, so I went with these by Miu Miu. I thought they were pretty cool...
Had trouble finding a white or black maxi dress I liked, so this one by Rick Owens will have to do. Someone I used to follow wore this, I think, and I thought it looked really good on her.
I’ve always wanted this bodysuit. Why does it have to be from American Apparel, though? This would look good with pretty much anything.
[LOL I put this together some time ago; figure it’s best to post it later rather than never... it’s worth coming back to Tumblr for I guess]
-
At the risk of embarassing myself, I’ve imagined an alter-ego for myself, and for some reason I’ve named her Samantha. This was inspired by... the band Our Lady Peace and how punk/edgy I thought Canada was in the early 2000′s, judging from LiveJournal and MySpace. All pics were found through Google.
Is it even worth updating my theme if
I rarely post here anymore?
-
I kind of want to (I mean, my birthday was back in May), but it’s just like... ever since I’ve been away from here, it’s not like my life’s gotten any worse because of it. IDK. All that time organizing and reblogging, though, all gone away...

He definitely looks like Anna with Jesse’s legs and (judging from another picture) bottom half of the mouth, lol.
-
It’s 2017; I have to meet Jesse this year to keep the pattern going (2011, 2013, 2015...)! I wanna meet the baby.

Mounting the ladder I looked up above me to see her pass over the edge. The sun filtered through her hair just as she climbed out of sight leaving floating dust motes forming patterns in the sun’s rays. Once I reached the top and climbed onto the abandoned tracks I saw the sun still illuminating her hair, giving her a halo.

Lost dilapidated ruins aren’t hard to come by, yet seeking a new place in the magic of sunrise isn’t something easily forgot. An old rope swing hanging a few paces ahead of us drew us towards it. Swinging level with buildings with the faint breeze on my face, I looked over the city. The atmospheric haze and golden light gave the view a natural filter. The background of our outing. Had I been in the midst of travel, or simply a block away from my usual coffee shop, I still would have listened to the far off sounds of cars, the tentative crickets, and the urge to continue on as we made another memory.

The Sacred Hour: Rise Before the Sun
by Miann Scanlan for Free People’s BLDG 25 Blog (February 20, 2015)

When the world is still and the breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you…
-
The outside world is still dark, stars faintly glimmer from light years away and the slightest hint of cool color blankets the night sky. The breeze is almost still as it whispers silently through the trees. Birds don’t chirp, cars don’t drive past. It feels like the world is still and the breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. The sacred hour.
-
Dawn is, by nature, a peaceful contemplative time of day laden with mystery, possibility, and the energy of renewal. Each sunrise, signifying a new day on earth, the opportunity for a fresh start. Last summer I made a pact with myself that I would become a morning person. In curious awe of my friends who seemed to have it all, and juggle it all with grace and effortless ease… I yearned to strike that balance, something inside my being told me that an early morning was a great place to start, and I was right. Here’s why:
That feeling of accomplishment and success lingers all day - You know the feeling I’m talking about. The first time you get up early and go for a run, you feel like you have conquered the world. And in a way, you have. Setting out to commit to something, and then accomplishing it instills the feeling that you can literally achieve anything (especially when paired with a scenic sunrise). And this feeling lingers and even leads to an increased sense of motivation and ambition all day.
Creativity is highest immediately after sleep - This is especially true if you rise before the sun when there’s no noise, no chaos, no stress from hours past. It’s easier to focus when the world outside is still, ideas are clearer as the mind hasn’t yet been troubled with the day’s trivialities and our problem-solving abilities are of a particularly high standard when the mind is fresh early in the morning. Immediately after waking, the prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain which is in charge of creativity) is also most active.
Balance the body - When you rise with (or just before) the sun, and begin to wind down for the day shortly after the sun has set, you are literally mimicking the body’s natural circadian rhythm which aids to restore peace and balance within the body’s physiology. Afterall, I believe the majority of our suffering comes from going against nature. Of course, creating more of a natural balance in the body leads to a more balanced life.
It’s prime time for me-time - I read somewhere once that the hour before the sun rises is the most potent time to connect to higher realms (whether, according to your personal spiritual beliefs, those realms exist within you or beyond you) due to the angle at which the earth sits to the sun, allowing the earth to absorb solar rays as it comes into rotation. Whether or not this is true, the sentiment is still the same, and leveraging this peaceful serenity under the rising sun is the very least you can do for yourself every day to indulge in the ultimate me-time.Try turning back your alarm clock in 5 minute increments per day until you reach the sacred hour (remember, this also means going to bed 5 minutes earlier each night!) You will seriously be overflowing with joy, love and light that you will project out into the world. Who knows, you may be the one to inspire others, in the same way that I was inspired to want to feel the same way.
Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, it was not enforced in the state of Texas due to a lack of Union troop presence and enforcement in the confederate state.
However on June 19, 1865, Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger and his regiment entered Galveston, Texas to override the resistance to the law and to enforce the Executive Orders. Union Major-General Gordon Granger read General Orders, No.3 to the people of Galveston. It stated:
“The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.”
Since 1865 black Americans have regarded June 19th as the official emancipation day, and on January 1, 1980, the state of Texas proclaimed June 19 an official state holiday thanks to the African American state legislator Al Edwards.
