Infinite blinks. She has to be joking, right? He surely doesn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth.
“…You’re a strange one, do you know that?” He stands up, hand still nursing the dented side of his mask. “I don’t mean to insult you. Nobody in my field of work has ever done something like this, without the intent of killing me later. Somehow, I feel that’s not the case, here.”
Infinite suddenly looks away, and starts heading out of the building. He’s actually avoiding eye contact with Amy, as he contemplates what he’s going to say next. An offer that he hasn’t made to anyone in months, but that feels like the least he can do in exchange for staying with someone he tried to kill.
“…I suppose, if I’m staying the night, I should offer some compensation. I am going to cook dinner.”
Strange. Even if he had meant it as an insult, she couldn’t have gotten upset about it. She’d been accused plenty of times, but when it came down to it, she felt it was important to be true to yourself.
Amy could only grin as he explained himself, the hasty little shake of her head seeing the spikes framing her expression bob gently from the movement.
❝ No offense taken! ❞ she promised in a kindly chirp, shoulders bundled with excitement as they hiked themselves up about the base of her neck. ❝ It’s been way too long since I had friends over! ❞
And just like that, that was exactly what Infinite was. A friend. If he was serious about letting the war come to an end, she couldn’t bear to treat him as anything less.
❝ I never would have guessed you for a cook! Do you have a favorite dish? ❞
The small talk came all too easy as the tween broke off from the jackal’s exit, jogging on ahead to scoop up her warm soda and cold cup of soggy noodles. She may have forgotten to eat her snack, but there was no way she was going to be leaving any litter behind.

Infinite is barely able to wrap his head around this sentiment, but…he’s too tired to at the moment. He sighs, leaning forward.
“Very well. To be frank, I think the world is a nicer place without all of the fire and ruin.” Perhaps a strange admission. Is that a hint of regret? Maybe indicative of a change of heart? He seems too jaded to be lying…
“If you care to know why I’m here, I was…looking for some shelter for the evening. It’s supposed to rain tonight.
❝ I think so, too, ❞ Amy agreed softly to his sentiment, hands clasping themselves together sweetly at the thought of their sharing common ground.
For whatever reason, it didn’t seem to surprise her too much that he’d openly offer what had brought him there in the first place. There was no fanfare for his apparent change in perspective, or outspoken cheering for his willingness to share his motivations with her. Amy kept things mellow, her guileless voice filled with warmth and consideration.
❝ Well - why don’t you come stay with me? ❞
Yes, it was that easy, and yes, she was really that fearless. Any hesitation was purely for the fact that she’d understand if he’d want to give it some thought. They hadn’t had the chance to get to know each other, after all.
❝ I feel like I owe you one after hitting you with that stray ball. ❞
Her smile gained in strength as she lift a hand to rub shyly at the back of her quills.
❝ I don’t have anything fancy to offer you, but it’ll at least be someplace warm and dry for the night. And maybe we can see about fixing your mask, too. ❞
lilbluespeedster:
*He couldn’t help but chuckle at Ames’ upbeat mood. It was a bit contagious after all. He would allow the other to grab his hand, not wanting to ruin her fun. He couldn’t deny her the pleasure, even if he wanted to. He yearned a bit for his old life back and this was filling a void that was somewhat empty for a long time;*
“Well, you know me. I can always grab a bite to eat.” *He already knew where this was going and he didn’t mind. After all, some people just wanted to shower others with kindness and helpfulness. Lil’ wasn’t different in some ways after all.* “I appreciate the invitation.” *He would remark playfully. He might have been in a kind mood, but that wouldn’t stop him from playfully teasing others. He knew it couldn’t hurt as long as he knew the limits.*
“So how have you been? You seem to be doing well for yourself.”
Amy laughed as her friend voiced his appreciation, her voice chiming like a cheerful bell against the rhythm of the rain.
❝ It’s no fun all by yourself! ❞ Her childish complaint rang with joy despite the dissatisfaction behind it. The smile at her lips head easy to its place, a humored glance bright with cheer cast back to the hedgehog being dragged along in her wake.
❝ I’ve been dying for some excitement, ❞ she admit, turning her eyes forward to ensure her steps as she lead the way.
❝ I’ve been spending a lot of my time working at one of the cafés around here. They take care of stray kittens, there. ❞ Because there were no such things as cats. Even the oldest feline was a kitten at heart.
It didn’t take long for the familiar cart to come into view, its lemon yellow and white striped awning helping to shield its wares from the gentle storm. The chef manning the humble stall seemed to be distracted due to the distinct lack of foot traffic, his eyes toward his phone as drew his thumb to scroll along its screen. Between the spice of chili hinted in the air and the blatant hotdog painted on the cart’s face, it was obvious what the pink hedgehog had in mind.
❝ Over there! ❞ she sang -- as if it weren’t obvious already.
— - why is the dash full of killing people. come on, guys.
dogz4blood:
That response to Infinite’s moping…huh? Infinite stares over at the hedgehog, an eyebrow raising under his mask. He tilts his head. He wasn’t expecting her to kill him, or anything, but this is still a bit of a shock.
“…What do you mean ‘the battle’s over?’ You feel no rage?” He thunks his hand against the dent in his mask. He’s probably going to be feeling that for a while. It’s touching his head in an awkward way.
“Even if I have no intention of causing further harm, do you treat every former adversary like this? That’s an excellent way to end up dead.” He says, perhaps a bit too frankly. Infinite hasn’t known a former enemy who hasn’t wanted him dead. Kindness after everything confuses him.
He didn’t get it? The thought found a smile back at the hedgehog’s lips, her eyes softening as her expression warmed with some small amount of cheer.
❝ Look around, ❞ she answered softly to his question, a hand moving in gesture to invite his focus the peaceful atmosphere surrounding them. ❝ There’s no war to fight here. The people are free. ❞
Sure, things weren’t perfect. There were hiccups here and there, hurt feelings and mistakes, but there was no sense of oppression. There was no overwhelming fear of what tomorrow might bring. It was completely different from life under Eggman’s rule, and she was sure Infinite could feel it, too. He did mention being tired, after all.
❝ I’ve definitely got my disagreements with your past choices, ❞ she assured, flashing her old enemy a cheeky little wink as she rest a hand on her hip. ❝ But it’s a new day, Infinite! Of course I don’t want to hurt you. ❞
Was it foolish? Perhaps. Naive? Quite possibly. But it was important to Amy. People needed to believe in each other!
lilbluespeedster:
*He wouldn’t stop the pink hedgehog and allow the other to hug him. While he was younger he might have felt a bit smothered by this, now he just enjoyed the feeling…He missed it in a way.*
*Technically, Ames would have been correct in seeing a hedgehog of a ‘classic’ design. That‘s what he mostly was…Besides the new additions.*
“It has been a long time. I’m doing okay…Um, you forgot your umbrella on the ground here.” *He would pick up the umbrella for her and handed it back to her. It wasn’t a big deal at the moment, but just in case. He also wouldn’t point how that he was an alternate. Not yet. He’ll let Amy come to the conclusion naturally, if at all. It was better that way.*
That she’d gotten a spoken answer was a wonderful surprise! She’d never heard her “boyfriend’s” counterpart talk before! Her hands clasped themselves together in adoration, lifting to rest near the pitter-patter of her heart.
❝ Oh! Thank you~! You’re so sweet... I didn’t even notice! ❞
Was it any surprise? She’d always had trouble keeping track of things when Sonic was around. Her tunnel vision must have been notorious, by this point.
With a beaming smile and a little curtsey of gratitude, she accept her umbrella back into her grasp, guiding it around gently to settle it up and over her shoulder.
❝ We should celebrate! ❞ she happily declared, her free hand reaching to try and steal one of the blue-spiked’s own into it’s grasp. ❝ And I know just the place! ❞
Forget the flower shop! Forget the rain! Forget everything! For Sonic’s alternate to be here with no apparent emergency was nothing short of a miracle, and she was chomping at the bit to take advantage of their good fortune. Already it was one foot in front of the other, eager steps carrying her onwards to what she knew to be one of Sonic’s favorite pit stops.
❝ You’ve got to be hungry! Right? ❞
lilbluespeedster:
*The smaller blue hedgehog was staring out on the view of the streets in front of him, out of the way of the foot traffic of everyone else. He didn’t bother with a raincoat or anything, just a simple and small umbrella in case the rain grew to be more than just a light sprinkle of a shower they currently in. It was enough for some people to want to bring out their rain gear, but not this hedgehog. It felt nice in the warmer weather they were starting to have. Maybe his significant other was starting to rub off on him some.*
*He allowed the raindrops to run down his blue quills the were marked with the purple streaks he newly acquired as a permanent feature. His purple pupils seemed to be entranced by the weather around, almost like he was letting his thoughts wander for a bit. It wasn’t something he did often, but sometimes he just needed to disconnect from reality. Unfortunately this wasn’t the best spot, but he was out of the way for now…*
*However hearing his name snapped him out of the haze that was his thoughts as he turned to see a pink hedgehog running towards him. He recognized the face and voice somewhat, but the figure was definitely an alternate if he ever saw one. He wasn’t surprised, considering he had hopped zones to be here, to explore, as a zone-hopper tended to do at times. He had heard of stories of this one confusing others for Sonic, but in this case, she was right…But after noticing the differences, maybe she would question herself? Lil’ had no way of knowing where this was going to go. However, unlike some Sonics, he sort of welcomed the attention, It was like experiencing something he missed out on for years…*
*For the moment, he just looked over in her direction and smiled, not saying a word just yet. He would like this play out for the time being and go with the flow.*
100% Amy was coming in for that hug.
Lips drawn to a sunny smile, laughter rang soft and warm from her lips, lashes pinched shut as she dropped herself down to try and capture the little blue spikeball in the loving embrace of her arms.
❝ It’s been so long! ❞ The pink hedgehog cheered, ears pitched forward as the black of her nose gave an excitable little wiggle.
Obviously, she was mistaking him for someone else. Not his lanky counterpart, but a hedgehog of more ‘ classic ’ design.
Whether she was allowed the hug or not, she’d be quick to draw herself back, eyes shining with interest as they gaze cheerfully over Lil’s features. ❝ How have you been?! ❞
She had to be sparkling. The little blue hedgehog was just too cute.
She was so wrapped up in the fact that she managed to forget to right her umbrella! Drops of rain steadily dampened her spikes, but she hardly seemed to mind, too busy basking in the wonder of her favorite company.
dogz4blood:
Infinite stares Amy down, intensely, his stature menacing and aura pulsating…
…Until he de-tenses and groans. Any urge to attack is gone the second he sees that another infernal resistance member is here. He’s not interested in fighting anyone who can take him, much less when the slight against him was definitely an accident.
“It’s you. Why can’t I be free of you ex-resistance members? It’s getting ridiculous.”
Infinite walks over to sit down on a nearby bench. He’s feeling at his dented mask now, trying harder to assess the damage.
“I’m assuming you plan to take me prisoner, or something alike. I’m not going down easily, but I’d rather spare the fight, to be frank. I’m done with war.”
Amy wasn’t dropping her guard, though she made no move to summon her hammer. Her shoulders held stiff, knees bent faintly as she wait for any follow-up to his initial rush, but after a moment of seething, that dark aura surrounding him seemed to disappear entirely, hanging instead like an exhausted cloud to mantle over his shoulders.
With a curious bat of her lashes, the hedgehog let her shoulders drop, lips pursing in an unspoken question as he wondered over fate’s stringing him along.
❝ Prisoner? ❞ she repeated, eyes following as he move to settle his weight on one of the benches waiting nearby.
❝ The battle’s over, now, ❞ Amy remind him, a little smile tugging itself to her lips in way of assurance. ❝ And it doesn’t look like you’re up to no good. ❞
Her smile brightened toward the jackal, a quiet offer of friendship in the awkward moment they’d found themselves in.
❝ If anything, I’m the one who should be in trouble, ❞ she offered bashfully, dropping her chin a bit as she kicked a boot shyly at the ground. The smile to trace her lips showed tinged with apology, regret in the furrow of her brows. Her concern was genuine.
❝ That tennis ball of mine hit you, didn’t it? ❞

Amy sound with a wistful * sigh *
Okay. So it wasn’t a very exciting day. As soothing as the spring showers were, there was a sleepy haze that clung to the city, little specks of rain smattering down gently to the pavement below. It hid the world behind a calm silver veil, one that might have been romantic if not for the fact that Amy was here all by herself.
The pinkette was in dire need of a pick-me-up, and with the clear plastic of her umbrella in her hand, she was on her way to find it. The flower shop on the corner always had something to brighten her day, and so her path was set.
Ears tuned to the patter of rain, the red-dressed hedgehog stepped through the shallows of a puddle, the summer’s yellow of her raincoat shimmering with the occasional drop that managed to evade the shield of her umbrella. There was a sense of peace in the rumble of cars along the road, something familiar in the soft grey of the clouds overhead. Her path came easy, steps slowing to a halt as the light at the crosswalk showed red.
With a blink of her eyes, her gaze leveled for the shop just ahead - and right away, she caught it. That tell-tale blue.
Sonic.
The clouds weren’t parting. The sun didn’t peek from its hiding place. There was no rainbow in the dreary grey of the expanse above. But immediately, Amy’s day brightened, and as the light switched green, she was on the move, closing in on the smaller figure with cheery excitement.
❝ Sonic!! You’re here! ❞
dogz4blood:
Hit somebody it does! Moments after Amy’s desperate cry, the sound of a metallic CLANG, followed by a loud cry, and another metallic sound as they hit the ground.
The ball knocked Infinite’s mask clean off! He leans his head deep and close to the ground to avoid as much facial spotting damage as possible, as he struggles to put his mask on singlehandedly, while panicking. He gets it on, but the metal on the right side of his face is noticeably warped. He doesn’t have a way to fix that. That angers him.
“Who did that?!” Infinite growls out, as he stands back up. “Come out and face me! I dare you!”
Infinite starts zooming towards the source of the ball that hit him. Amy had better think fast!
The chime of metal and the cry to accompany it made Amy’s heart sink.
Fingers gripped tight around the handle of her racket, the hedgehog raced around the wall’s corner, in quite the hurry to offer some help ( and a proper apology ) to her victim.
What she didn’t expect was the growl to leave the downed figure’s mask, her eyes going wide as the jackal rose to his full height to issue his challenge. And there she was - the tennis racket in her grip burning bright and hot as a beacon to the offended hound. She was practically standing there red handed. With his snarling to serve as warning, suddenly, shoom - here he came, whipped up into a rage.
❝ Woah! ❞
Amy staggered back, stumbling a bit on her feet as she scrambled in hopes of not getting mowed down by the casualty of her little accident.
❝ Are you okay? ❞ Of course her first thought would be that. She was so busy worrying over what that tennis ball might have done to the guy that it didn’t even register who he was. Until --
❝ ...Infinite? ❞
It wasn’t fear that flashed in her eyes. There was no judgement or hatred. Only surprise. It was completely unexpected!
What was he doing here?

❝ Hehe~ ❞
Knuckles’ words of appreciation were answered by a warm little giggle of gratitude, the hedgehog’s head cant to one side as she greet him with a friendly grin. It was easy to feel comfortable in the presence of the Guardian. As hard a shell as he’d always managed to keep up, he was a great guy, and Amy had always admired his strong sense of dedication. ❝ Any time, Knuckles, ❞ she assured, her own sincerity ringing heartfelt in the gentle cheer of her tone. Soft as her voice was, she couldn’t tamp down the excitable energy shining from her grin.
❝ Wait, really? And you’ll share? ❞
The promise of fresh strawberries easily broke the calm of her persona, eyes sparkling with appreciation as her brows knit gently over her gaze. She was touched!
❝ Yes, please! ❞ Amy chirped, righting her posture a bit as her shoulders hitched subtle about the base of her neck. It seemed her gratitude had reminded her of her manners, her suddenly upright posture just a bit more straight than she was relaxed just a moment ago. ❝ Do they grow around here? ❞

❝ Oh~! I can’t wait! You are gonna LOVE this! ❞
There was a cheerful hop to the hedgehog’s step, a sparkle in her eyes absolutely electric with excitement. A swirl on her toes and she hopped forward, making steady ( highly animated ) progress down the sidewalk. Blue sky over head, pale sun low in the eastern sky, the day was just starting, and Amy was absolutely thrilled to be spending it with a visitor from another world! Picnic basket swinging from her arm, a plastic bag of day-old bread swung merrily from her fist, pointed little ears perked forward to joyful attention. Their destination? The city’s star attraction, for ducks that is. Moonview Lake.
❝ There it is! See the gate? We can enter through here! ❞

Oh geeze. This was such a disaster. Again, the crane fell. Again, its hooks circled around the plush of her dreams. Again it lifted, slowly, with its claws flexing around the little plushies’ noggin to let it slip right out of its grip. And again, the crane returned to the drop box. Empty. The drama of it all! ❝ Awww... ❞ Amy bowed her head, hands drawing down her face as she sound out with a pitiful whine. She had tried so many times already! How was she going to have any New Years luck without a New Years SUPER☆LUCKY Tiger?! It was likely just the thing she needed to get a special someone to look her way! Carton of milk going warm at her heel, sugar, flour, and eggs all waiting in the canvas bag ready to go home, Amy turned her eyes to meet the beady black spheres of the tiger’s own in sulky despair, lips bowed in a childish pout.
❝ You’re so stubborn! But I’m not about to give up! ❞ Conviction renewed, she reached into her purse to fish out another coin. For the moment, she was too distracted to notice the familiar hedgehog nearby.
