Ben saw a hole in the ground and went “imma create something amazing out of this.” He saw sticks and a stream and a broken set of kids and said “hey! We can make something here!” He craved out things for himself and his friends out of dirt and water and *wanting.* He fit perfectly because the losers always had a space for someone who, while hurt himself, would stay with a bleeding and panicking child who just got punched to protect his friend.

the IT novel is structured in a kind of odd way so far because i’m on page 150 and only now have all the losers been introduced and the only thing that happened outside the prologue was everyone getting the call and freaking the fuck out. and. yknow. stan

i mean it does a good job of giving you a sense of who they are/have become but...... i feel like when it first came out it would’ve been a hard sell to keep people’s interest if it wasn’t from someone already famous. also i know i’m biased because of the 2017 movie but i really do feel like starting the story with them as kids is better narratively. i actually wonder if this was done bc they were worried no one would stick with it thinking it was just for kids? lol
