Aslan hadn’t noticed he was being stared at honestly. Next thing he knew an arm was draped across his shoulders–pulling him against the taller blond. Biting hip lip, he blushed hearing Peony’s comment. Looking downward, he finally thought of something to say after a few minutes.
“I suppose you don’t mean the actual view…but, um, thanks…I think…” His nerves got the better of him, his words coming out more broken up and uneven than he preferred.
“You look really good too…” That sounded so stupid… Aslan berated himself mentally as he leaned his head against the emperor’s chest gently. Risking a glace upward, the general frowned. “I mean…you make a better view than I do honestly.” Blush still plastered across his face, his lip quivered as he bit it gently.
Peony was genuinely surprised at Frings’ action. He thought his forwardness would have sent the general running for the hills… or at least running to the bow to jump overboard. The Emperor’s arms came around the silver haired man’s shoulders and his blue eyes met with his. “You’re welcome.” Peony’s normally loud and brash voice was soft for once. “And I mean every word of it, too. What I see is quite amazing.”
The Emperor chuckled a bit at Frings’ compliment. “R-Really? You think so?” He laughed a bit louder. “Sesemann’s been telling me I look like a drunk hobo that washed up on the wrong side of the pier.” He let out a sigh as he held Frings a bit tighter. “Apparently I don’t look very “Imperial”.” He shrugged. “But I suppose he’s right. I mean, my room is basically a ritzy rappig sty, after all.”
Peony suddenly felt daring and leaned forward to place a gentle kiss on Frings’ forehead. “But enough about my character flaws. I’m just going to enjoy this, if you don’t mind.”
At first, Aslan was too embarrassed from Peony’s words to talk. Fidgeting a bit, he listened to the emperor as he sat against him. However, once he started speaking of Sesemann and how he looked, he finally got the nerve to say something.
“Well, nothing against Sesemann, but I like how you look. And it wouldn’t be your room if it wasn’t messy and filled with rappigs.” Pouting slightly, he looked upward to gaze at the other blond. “You’re the one that brought it up, not me.”
Squinting his eyes shut as his forehead was kissed, his blush increased as he bit his lip once again. Nodding, he looked down at his hands. His fingers idly fiddled with his shirt sleeves.
Peony chuckled softly at the mention of his room back at the palace. “Heh, I guess you’re right. I suppose I wouldn’t be “me” if I wasn’t an epic slob.” He was silent for a few moments until he noticed Frings fiddling with his sleeves. “Is everything okay?” His voice was soft and filled with gentle concern. “Let me know if this is getting too awkward for you.”
The Emperor gently rubbed Frings’ shoulders and leaned into him, resting his cheek against the other man’s temple. The sun had now fully dropped below the horizon, leaving the sky a host of deep orange, red and deep violet. Clouds reflected the colors and their image was just starting to fade upon the dark grey seas.
The blond looked up and saw the last few gulls flying overhead. “So, since the sun is going down, what should we do now?”
Yes, he was nervous. However, that wasn’t something he could help. Turning enough to face the emperor, Aslan wrapped his arm around him loosely. Leaning in, the general kissed Peony on the lips softly. Tilting his head to get a better angle, he tried to drag it out for a minute before he broke off. Averting his gaze again, he stood up. Face still flushed, he crossed his arms over his chest.
Shrugging his shoulders in reply, he again bit his lip as he stood there awkwardly. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how to go from here. They needed to talk, however he knew the end result would be both of them hurting over something that couldn’t happen. “I’m not sure…” Sighing, he paced a bit. Ruffling his own hair out of frustration slightly, he continued. “What do you want to do?”
Peony felt a surge of excitement and joy swell up into his heart at Frings’ lips. For a few moments, his mind wandered. Was this actually happening? Or was it a dream? It certainly felt real. The Emperor had certainly dreamed of this moment for the longest time. But surely nothing so wonderful could have been real. But as soon as Frings tilted his head, Peony knew it wasn’t a dream. It was real. It was really happening.
When Frings pulled away, the blond monarch couldn’t help but feel just a tiny bit disappointed. He raised an eyebrow when the silver haired general shrugged. “What do I want to do?” Peony raised a playful hand to his chin and rubbed the non-existant stubble. “Well, I do had one idea, that is, if you don’t mind.”
The Emperor wrapped his arms around him and returned his lips to his, gently and sweetly.
