I'm not surprised about JJ leaving. I've noticed Parth popping up in a bunch of shows the last few years so he's probably become too busy. And I'm guessing Joanna didn't want to have to leave just because he was moving on. I think Brassic has run into the Call the Midwife problem where some of the cast see it as steady work and some see it as a stepping stone to something bigger.
It sucks for Joe because keeping the cast the same was a big deal for him (probably because he was aware of what the change did to Misfits), but that's the risk of going for more seasons.
Brassic is the type of show which should be gaining hype as it goes along but I swear every seasons it gets quieter. What gives?
I made this post back when S3 of Brassic aired but it feels even more relevant now so I thought I'd better post it before I forget about it again:
I know there are people who aren't into the Vinnie/Erin thing, and I totally get that, but as someone who doesn't usually like how romance is handled in the media, I see them as an exception.
Romantic relationships on TV tend to have at least one of these problems:
1. Bad pacing (making an initially interesting ship burn out quickly or drag out to the point people are tired of being baited)
2. The characters have a toxic dynamic.
3. The writers try to push together actors who don't have chemistry.
Now admittedly the jury's out on whether I'll feel this way by the end, but Vinnie and Erin have so far managed to avoid these issues, imo.
No I totally agree and get what you mean. There was a lot of unspoken emotions there I think.
I feel Vinnie's heart wasn't really in it with Sam, and his reaction there showed that. With Erin it's like, Vinnie's always been there as a reliable constant, and as much as she says she wants change, once there's the possibility of him moving on with someone else, she feels a little lost. I suspect there's a bit of realization that she needs him more than she had appreciated.
Thank you for that. Idk if it'd work since it looks like it hasn't been updated since 2015. But maybe it's worth trying? idk
Absolutely!
One of the (many) things that sucks about social media is that because it became the main way for famous people to interact with fans, the idea of sending fanmail through letters stopped being normal. So if you're a fan of someone like Joe who doesn't like anything involved with social media, you don't have a way of getting in contact unless maybe you're particularly determined.
Since my chances of meeting him are extremely low bar some kind of incredible luck, and even if I could I wouldn't say much of anything beyond "Hey you're cool", I wish I could send him a letter. I wouldn't normally care about that kind of thing, but I've enjoyed his work for a significant amount of my life now, and a lot of what he talks about has resonated with me. I'd just like to show my gratitude, y'know? Especially since he seems like he'd actually appreciate it.
If anyone has specific Brassic moments they'd like to see as gifsets feel free to put a request in. I'll do my best. lol
You know how David Tennant and Michael Sheen have a buddy thing going on? I'd like to see that with Joe Gilgun and Iwan Rheon.
I know this is kinda silly since it's all fictional, but it's really nice in Brassic to know how much Vinnie's friends love and care about him. Because most of the characters Joe has played get treated like shit, and it's pretty painful to watch. lol
Vinnie + Sam | Brassic S03E07
I've noticed whenever somebody who's worked with Joe Gilgun talks about him, they do it with this misty tone like they're thinking, "I miss that guy."
It's cute.
What do you think was going through Vinnie's mind when Erin interrupts him and Sam at the shack? I always find it interesting watching his body language and expressions at that moment. He's not annoyed, just awkward and at a loss for words. Is he embarrassed about Erin seeing him with someone else? Flustered that he's happy she came to see him? Not sure whether it's appropriate to shift his attention away from Sam? Not sure how to handle the two of them interacting? Or simply disappointed he's not getting any after all?
Watching Brassic on Hulu is such a strange experience because the difference in music can give scenes a totally different vibe.
I got some responses in that previous post from people who said they hadn't heard about this so here's what happened:
Back in December 2015 comedian James Meehan was making an animated pilot for a show called Space Dads. Meehan described it as "a group of idiots get trapped in space on a rocket powered by one of their Dad's computers."
It was going to star those guys above (Scroobius Pip, Joe Gilgun, James Acaster, Brett Goldstein), and Kath Hughes. According to twitter they were spotted getting lunch together at the University of Salford in Manchester in 2015.
It was in development up through 2017. I'm not sure what happened after that. Obviously it never took off, and I imagine it became less likely to happen as each of these guys became increasingly successful, but it's fun to think about the what if and I'd love to know what a conversation between them all was like.
Joe gilgun is so so good at those like "pensive" looks, ya know what I mean? Idk why it hits me more than most actors doing similar looks. Maybe it's in comparison to the kind of ridiculousness of most of brassic and then -bam- serious pensive Joe.
Yeah, I totally agree. I think it's something in his eyes. Like you can tell he's putting his whole soul into it, and it makes you really believe he's going through something. A lot of times with actors I feel they have an obvious "actor" face, you know?
